24.01.2022 Stay at home, but 'see' (or speak) with your doctor using Telehealth services. There are primary healthcare needs which, if not met, will adversely affect us all. Immunisations, pre-natal care, management of chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and cardiac disease, as well as other primary health care services need to be maintained and provided to the community.... Research shows that people tend to ‘shelve’ their non acute health concerns during times of crisis, when in fact, that is probably THE most important time to seek advice and look after your general health. The govt has made Telehealth services available to everybody fully bulk-billed. Telehealth consults can take place via phone or in some cases via video link. This means that the right time to see your local GP and address your health concerns is NOW. Remember, if you are finding it hard to cope; physically, emotionally or mentally you are NOT alone.

30.12.2021 COVID-19 and seasonal allergies share many symptoms, but there are some key differences between the two. For example, COVID-19 can cause fever, which is not a common symptom of seasonal allergies. Swipe across for a handy diagram describing the differences! Importantly, symptoms vary from person to person and range from mild to severe. You can have symptoms of both COVID-19 and seasonal allergies at the same time. Because some of the symptoms of COVID-19 a...nd seasonal allergies are similar, it may be difficult to tell the difference between them, and you may need to get a test to confirm your diagnosis. If you have concerns regarding your allergies and COVID-19 OR to organise a COVID-19 test, please contact a GP at Medical for Everybody Chirnside Park by: -calling 03 8727 0000 (COVID-19 referrals are completed via PHONE only) -visiting the website https://med4everybody.com.au/ COVID-19 - ASCIA (Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy) https://www.allergy.org.au/patients/covid-19 People with Seasonal Allergies FAQs - Centre of Disease Control (USA) https://www.cdc.gov//people-with-seasonal-allergies-faqs.h See more

18.12.2021 Reposted from @thewholesomedoctor An important topic for tonight- some reasons as to why you still might need to see your GP during this pandemic. Social distancing measures and staying home is key to preventing the spread of #COVID-19 in the community- BUT you still need to look after your mental and physical #health. So what’s the deal with seeing your GP right now? COVID-19 is a serious issue right now but conditions like bowel cancer, type 2 diabetes, measles... and high blood pressure have not simply disappeared - they’re all still problems that we need to keep preventing and managing If you have a chronic medical condition (like #asthma) you still require frequent reviews (some may done via Telehealth consults but some may require you to go into the clinic). Having your chronic disease well managed is still crucial Schedule vaccines (and additional ones) are still vital- yes, COVID-19 is scary but so are measles and whooping cough. Some councils are still immunising kids but if you want additional ones (like meningococcal B) you’ll likely need to see your doctor. We will be going to our GP for Mr A’s 4 month immunisations when they are due so he can also get his second dose of the Meningoccal B vaccine Some stuff can be done via Telehealth (video or phone consults) with your GP but some stuff just can’t be (vaccinations, examinations). Please don’t ignore a breast lump/ rectal blood loss or unexplained weight loss (for instance) because of the current situation- you still need to see your doctor Cancer prevention is essential- a cervical cancer screening test (formally known as a Pap smear) should go ahead if it’s due- #cervicalcancer is STILL going to happen despite COVID-19 and this test prevents it If you’re worried about seeing your doctor right now that’s OK- call the clinic to speak to us about the measures we have in place to reduce your risk of exposure. 18.11.2021 COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Prevention There are still a lot of unknowns about how the COVID-19 virus spreads. As directed by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the best prevention are simple measures: -frequent hand washing with soap or alcohol based hand rub... -maintain 1.5m distance from everyone -avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth - covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze, then dispose of the used tissue immediately -if unwell, seek medical attention If you suspect or are worried about your risk of COVID-19 OR have recently returned from a high risk area (or are unsure), please contact the dedicated COVID-19 hotline - 1800 675 938 See more

03.11.2021 COVID 19 update "Flattening the Curve" - Australian Health Protection Principal Committee Social distancing is one of the key measures currently being utilised to contribute to Australia’s ability to severely limit transmission of COVID-19. The picture below demonstrates the impact of effective social distancing and other interventions on the timing and size of the peak burden of disease. The intent is to ensure the burden of disease does not exceed the ca...pacity of the health system to manage. The overarching goal of the recommendations is to slow the spread of the virus and flatten the epidemic curve. We all have both a community and individual responsibility to maintain social distancing and minimise interactions in order to protect the people we love. The aim is a population response, to reduce transmission to protect vulnerable populations. See more

17.10.2021 COVID 19 Safety At Medical For Everybody Chirnside Park, patient safety is a priority. During these difficult times, the process of seeing a GP has changed. -Upon booking, each patient will be screened for any risk factors of COVID 19. -On arrival to the clinic, patients will be asked to wait in their car. ... -The GP will then call the patient and determine whether the patient needs a face to face appointment. This is to limit face to face contact with each other to help limit potential spread of COVID 19. There is more evidence that COVID 19 spreads not only via face to face contact, but also via contact with contaminated surfaces. Moving forward, the clinic will aim provide the majority of its care via phone consults, to help protect the community by limiting the face to face exposure. Some patients may still require a face to face consult, but this will up to the GP's discretion. Unfortunately COVID 19 can be transmitted before the patient has any symptoms, and this period can be up to 14 days. This is the reason for the self-isolation period required for overseas travellers. These processes are to protect our patients, our staff and our community from COVID 19. As an essential service, the medical clinic will be open through this difficult time to serve the community. Let's look after one another. "Please stay at home unless absolutely necessary." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison (24 March 2020) See more

05.10.2021 Australia has now over 4245 cases of COVID 19 as of the 30th March 2020. 455 cases 2 weeks ago (March 17 2020). 116 cases 3 weeks ago (March 10 2020). Cases are increasing quickly. We only have to look at Europe and USA to see what happens when COVID 19 is not controlled. The Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, stated on March 24th 2020 that "if it continues to spread, because people don't do the right thing, people will die." Social Distancing. Stay at home....
