20.01.2022 R U OK? Today we ask that question, and please start with yourself! Today, and every day, we share the responsibility to look after each other. A simple acknowledgement of shared humanity through this one question could be a major lifeline to someone.... Meditation Australia welcomes the Federal Governments decision to provide Victorians with a boost to available mental health services. You can read more about this in a statement from our President, Asher Packman, here: https://meditationaustralia.org.au/content/r-u-ok/

16.01.2022 Late Night Live interview with Shannon Harvey this week. Shannon Harvey had a two fold reason to commit to twelve months of mindfulness meditation. One was to see if it was actually a cheap form of mental health prevention, that would be available to everyone in spite of their wealth or location, and the other was personal, to see if it would alleviate her chronic auto-immune disease and insomnia. For her, mindfulness became a life-changing experience.

16.01.2022 "Mindfulness is awareness, with attention, in the present moment, on purposeand with an attitude or intentional stance of nonattached"

16.01.2022 Di Lucas is one of our amazing panelists for our upcoming PoD "Refining Your Online Teaching'. The yoga scene in Australia would not be what it is today without Gita, founded in 1954. Now Gita World, the school has seen three significant phases in its 65 year history. By 1960 Gita was the first full-time permanent yoga school in Melbourne. During the second wave of feminism in the 1970s when it was clear yoga offered women both a healthy regime and a viable career path, the n...umber of Gita teachers grew. In 1983 when Margrit Segesman retired, Gita was transferred to Lucille Wood and Di Lucas, beginning the second phase of the schools history. Their plans for a yoga school in the modern age were embraced by an increasing number of enthusiastic students; they introduced a new teacher training course, a teachers guild, and a charitable foundation. They turned the idea of yoga tours on its head by introducing spiritual tours to explore the roots of yoga in Egypt. Now in its third phase, Gita retains its flagship teacher training course while embracing the digital world offering classes and courses across the airwaves. 12.01.2022 At the moment were collapsing all the research into reporting things like 'mindfulness improves cognitive function and depressive symptoms', but I think what well find is with different lengths of time, different amounts of practice per day, different types of practices, even different conditions, people will react differently. A very interesting piece on the current state of Mindfulness.

11.01.2022 All irritations are Crucial All the things taking place around our world, all the irritations and all the problems, are crucial. Without others we cannot atta...in enlightenment in fact, we cannot even tread on the path. If there is no noise outside during our sitting meditation, we cannot develop mindfulness. If we do not have aches and pains in the body, we cannot attain mindfulness; we cannot actually meditate. If everything were lovey-dovey and jellyfishlike, there would be nothing to work with.
