24.01.2022 {Getting Out of My Comfort Zone} Well this week I have experienced an enormous, immense, colossal amount of malaise, anxiety and nerves! And not just because I read a thesaurus.... I'm also feeling a sense of relief and achievement as I've just completed Lisa Nichols' 30 day Mindvalley Quest - Speak and Inspire. It was so valuable and insightful and I highly recommend for anyone else trying to find their voice. ... The end goal was to create a My Story video and so here it is - My Story and why I am so passionate about sharing the benefits of mindfulness and meditation - raw and uncut.... https://www.facebook.com/1840066439561852/videos/953161411843836 #mindfulness #meditation #mindfulnessmeditation #mystory

23.01.2022 {Getting Out of My Comfort Zone} My first experience with walking a labyrinth was during my mindfulness meditation teacher training. I was not very woo woo back then, it was my first retreat and I was already in shock from the lack of coffee, laptop access and mobile phone reception! I was given no instructions for walking the labyrinth and had no idea what to expect but it certainly wasn’t what happened. I was part way through walking when I burst into tears for no apparent ...reason and heard a message as clear as day if mother nature can forgive what’s been done to her, you can too. That was around 5 years ago and it’s only been this year that I have been drawn back to the labyrinth. In my recent labyrinth facilitator training one exercise we did was to illustrate any chaos you may be feeling or recognising in your life or around you (the analogy being that the labyrinth calms the chaos). For me it was the constant confliction between the desire to be compassionate and empathetic verses the need for self-care and self-protection. I was reminded once again of mother nature and what she would do and was inspired to write this poem Calm in the Chaos the Acceptance of Mother Nature as a result, which I am sharing for the first time (i.e. first time I have shared any of my poetry!) She gives expecting nothing in return, She opens her valleys, oceans and heart, Regardless of the outcome... She feels no turmoil or conflict or fear, She does not seek approval nor favours, She just is. She experiences no heartbreak or loss, She feels no doubt, confusion or worry, She just smiles with joy... She does not struggle with what could have been, She is always present and connected, To the wonders that surround her... She is the calm in the chaos of life, She is the constant of the ground and sky, She is the mother I aspire to be.

19.01.2022 {About Labyrinths} The labyrinth is an archetype, a divine imprint, found in many religious traditions in various forms around the world. Dating back to around 2,000 BC not a lot is known about their history, use, various designs or who designed and made them, other than manuscripts that included drawings that were copied and passed on. Some cathedral labyrinths were used to find a path to God, others appear to be purely decorative.... In recent years they have seen a resurgence. Rapid changes such as industrial revolutions can lead to human displacement. As a result, people tend to shift to a greater level of consciousness and a need to connect with their inner selves for guidance and peace. Labyrinths are a circuitous pathway with usually the same entrance and exit, and circles signify elements such as unity, harmony, symmetry, connection and wholeness. A labyrinth differs from a maze in that they have one way into the centre and one way out, with no tricks or traps, just twists and turns. Walking a labyrinth is about finding your way, whereas walking a maze is about losing your way. Labyrinths are a meditation tool, e.g. a walking meditation and an opportunity to practice mindfulness of the breath, body and senses. Labyrinths can integrate both sides of the brain because whilst the left brain is thinking about where you need to walk (or where your finger needs to go), the right brain is free to be creative and come up with new ideas or solutions to problems. 14.01.2022 {Positive Thinking} I am all for positive thinking but I don't believe it's possible 24/7 in the reality of our day to day lives. Yes we can become alot more aware of our triggers and responses with practices like mindfulness and meditation but at the end of the day we are still human. I'd love nothing more than to see some of the spiritual gurus lose their shit occasionally lol. However, it is possible to move up the emotional scale a level or a couple of levels at at time (not trying to go from the bottom to the top straight away) by using things like gratiitude. I love this video analogy from Rob Dial on why positive thinking just doesn't work sometimes. https://youtu.be/dWTd1xmlQm0

08.01.2022 {Bedtime Rituals} What’s your night time ritual? I've never had an issues falling asleep so for me it's just dinner with the kids, watch netflix with them (whilst constantly telling them to get off their phones) then I usually fall asleep on the couch until they wake me and send me to bed (combined with taking the puppy out to the toilet now) :) I am trying to break the habit of falling asleep on the couch though as it breaks your sleep pattern then having to get up and go... to bed. If I'm still awake in bed I read for a bit. If you do have issues going to sleep here are some practises that may help: 1. Create a regular pattern/habit before bedtime - this trains your body/mind to get ready and relax (like when you walk into a gym or a yoga studio, meditation retreat, etc. and your body just knows what to do). 2. Get off your phone/tablet/laptop for at least 30 minutes prior to going to bed - the light from these screens make your brain think it's day time. 3. Avoid any technology in the bedroom. 4. Have a shower or bath if you have time. 5. Do some gentle yoga/stretches to relax your body and release any stiffness/soreness. 6. If you are really wired go for a walk or do a night time gym class. 7. Meditate to relax your mind (yoga nidra is good for night time - doesn't matter if you fall asleep during it). 8. Write a to do list for the next day so you aren't thinking about the things you didn't get done or need to do.

Avoid eating three hours before bedtime. 7. Don’t use screens within two hours of bedtime. 8. Do something relaxing before bed. 04.01.2022 {Options for Walking a Labyrinth} It's not necessary to but you may like to set an intention before you begin your labyrinth walk. Some options include: * Mindful walking exercise - tuning into your body and the sensations of each movement. ... * Use a favourite word, phrase or affirmation - repeat the mantra slowly as you "walk." * Recite a prayer or pray to your deity as you walk. * Walk with a question, e.g. "what do I need to know right now?" * Ask for insight or guidance on a problem you may be struggling with. * Release something, e.g. an emotion, negative thought, your inner critic, grief. * Reconnect with your body - explore sensations, emphasise movement, listen to messages of pain. * Celebrate a milestone or benchmark, e.g. birthday, retirement, anniversary of something. * Interpret a dream that you have had recently. * Creative thought - come up with an idea or project you would like to work on or need help with. * Break the cycle of repeated patterns or behaviour, e.g. perfectionism, job losses, toxic relationships, financial losses, bursts of anger. * Seek your soul or life purpose - ask for images or symbols. * Journal writing before or/and after.
