22.01.2022 Today's book is for the younger members of our community... although that said... it is worth reading as a parent too! The author - Patrick McAllister - was diagnosed at the age of 12 and wrote this aged 20... He has served as a mentor to teenage patients at Yale Pediatric Endocrinology and started a Chapter of the College Diabetes Network at Saint Michael's College in Burlington, Vermont. The book covers nearly every possible scenario you could imagine including coming home from hospital after your initial diagnosis all the way to preparing to go off to university (college)... We'd love to hear from anyone who has read it and don't forget to post your ideas for future Book Club good reads!

21.01.2022 We've been thinking a lot about food lately and wondered where you find inspiration from... are you an adventurous cook or do you stick to family favorites? Is there a legendary family cookbook or do you search online and try what sounds nice? Where have you found something great to eat lately?

13.01.2022 #ManagingtheMyths Many people believe upon being diagnosed with diabetes that they need to reduce or eliminate all sugar from their diet... but sugar is found in many forms and in many healthy foods. Let's not forget that sugar is found naturally in fruit, plain yoghurt and milk - all of which make up part of the healthy five food groups and are therefore an important part of a healthy diet. All of the quality evidence shows these foods have a positive impact on our health. The reality is that ALL Australians should try and limit their intake of the kinds of foods which are high in added sugars and provide little other nutrition (aka lollies, soft drinks, cordial, biscuits and cakes) not just those of us living with diabetes.* *SOURCE: https://bit.ly/3uxXILO

02.01.2022 Today (in Australia) we celebrate World Teachers' Day. Traditionally it is celebrated globally on the first Friday in October, but because that lands in our school holiday period we wait until school is back. This year, so many of us have been asked to take on the role of teacher for our children and it has reinforced for many how much of an impact they have on the lives of the children they look after, and just how large a role they play in helping children learn to fit in with the world around them - especially when that child is living with diabetes. To celebrate this remarkable profession (and how much hard work we have all done to help teach our children during this ongoing pandemic), we are asked to post a photo of us and/or our kids wearing sunglasses. Don't forget to add the tags: #teachersday #brightfuture
