21.01.2022 This month, we're talking about the things you need to consider when buying a home if you have a pet in the family. Here's a few of them: Does the home have pet-friendly flooring? If your cat or dog sheds a lot of hair, wooden floorboards might be the best option for flooring - they're also the easiest flooring finish to touch up when scratched. Carpet isn't the best option; Cats will claw it, dogs track in mud and dirt. Carpet also traps smells from accidents, stains easil...y, and collects pet hair. Can your pet handle the stairs? If you’re looking at a multilevel home, consider whether your dogs will be OK with the stairs, particularly as they age. As dogs get older, they can get joint problems that make it difficult for them to navigate steps. And if they've always slept in your room or bed, it's important to allow for that continuity when you move homes. Is there enough room for your pet to have their own space? Consider the size and layout of the home, if you have a large pet, or several pets. You may get tired of tripping over your pets if they don't have a designated area. Is the space big enough for your dog’s breed? Is there enough room for a cozy dog bed or cat tree? If you’re downsizing, you should take into account where your pets will be situated.
