20.01.2022 This was the nation of Vanuatu just last week. You’d be forgiven for not recognising it it’s that vaguely Y-shaped outline right at the eye of Cyclone Harold, the Category 5 cyclone that ripped across the Pacific obliterating much in its path. Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected. We don’t directly support disaster relief, but if you feel moved to give, please support @careaustralia’s campaign. https://www.care.org.au/cyclone-harold/ Photo: NASA #careaustralia... #disasterrelief #cyclone #cycloneharold #peopleofvanuatu #helpifyoucan #makeadifference #support See more

18.01.2022 Thankful today for these Ni-Vanuatu workers, keeping food on tables across Australia. Normally the more than 1000 Pacific Islanders working in Australia would head home over winter to spend time with their families. This year is very different. Thinking of them all!

18.01.2022 This beautiful, newly installed sculpture by artist Don Walters takes our breath away. It offers walkers along the Geelong Waterfront a place to stop and remember loved ones who have lost their lives on the road. We think it’s stunning. Thanks to our patron @richard.marles for bringing it to our attention. Thinking this past week of all those affected by road trauma. #memorial Posted @withregram @richard.marles Morning Geelong. Have you seen the new memorial along the Geelo...ng Waterfront? A State Government and TAC initiative that provides a space for people to stop and remember loved ones who have lost their lives on the road. Beautiful work by artist Don Walters titled 'Solace' #geelong

14.01.2022 Our end of financial year campaign has launched, and incredibly we are already over halfway in meeting our goal! With your help, we will supply all nurses across the Vila Central Hospital emergency department with critical Nursing Packs, essential to the effective triaging of patients. Usually found in hospitals around the world, these packs do not currently exist at VCH. You can pledge to donate a single item, an entire pack or even two! For further info or to donate, please follow the link: https://www.melaniejewsonfoundation.com.au//emergency-ess/

13.01.2022 Vanuatu is one of the very few places on Earth with no confirmed cases of COVID-19. After the recent devastating cyclone, it’s refusing foreign aid workers to keep it that way. Amazing story by Time Magazine.

13.01.2022 The deliveries just keep rolling in! Day after day there’s another knock at the door, another delivery slip to sign, another box or two to pack into storage. 12.01.2022 Tropical Cyclone Harold tore across Vanuatu on Tuesday, impacting an estimated 159,000 people. Thousands of families are already in urgent need of shelter, water, food and basic supplies. Although disaster relief is outside the remit of the MJF, we wholeheartedly encourage you to support the relief effort if you are able to. Link in bio to Care Australia’s disaster relief campaign. 11.01.2022 Vanuatu is the country on earth most at-risk to natural disasters and is currently pioneering the use of blockchain technology to provide aid money directly to families recovering from these events. Pretty amazing!

08.01.2022 Incredibly, we surpassed our EOFY goal by over 50%. Thank you to all our wonderful donors. You are the backbone of the MJF and we couldn’t do it without you. 50 emergency nurses will now have access to affordable essentials packs and the considerable surplus will be used to help fund our next shipment of medical supplies. 08.01.2022 150 years ago countless young Ni-Vanuatu men were taken from their islands to work on Queensland cane fields. ‘Blackbirding’, as it was known, is a tragic part of Vanuatu and Australia’s shared history. This insightful feature/podcast by ABC journalist and foundation friend Fiona Pepper is a sensitive insight into the repercussions still being felt today. Absolutely worth a listen!

03.01.2022 It’s not too late to help us supply Ni-Vanuatuan emergency nurses with essential nursing packs. As the end of financial year approaches, you can reduce your taxable income, and at the same time make a lasting difference to those in need. Please donate today.
