23.01.2022 Thursday just past was World Suicide Prevention Day & R U Ok Day. It's great that there is a specific day to bring awareness to a topic that is all too often hidden away. However we would love to encourage everyone to reach out not just on that day but any day to ask someone you know "Are you ok?" and be there to listen - not do just listen. Reach out to one of your older friends, relatives or neighbours and check in with them. You never know it could make all the difference!
23.01.2022 Just received this fabulous feedback from one of our care facilities who received some or your beautiful #isomail for their residents. "I just shared your 'thinking of you' letters with the residents and they did exactly what we hoped for. They put big smiles on their dials. Thanks again for all your organisation's support at a time when the residents have been isolated from the community and have not been able to do all the things they enjoy."
23.01.2022 Would you like to help spread some cheer during the COVID-19 pandemic? We’re guessing that many of our care facility residents will be feeling isolated right now with restricted or no visitor access, so we thought we could send some correspondence to them (#isomail - isolation mail). If you'd like to participate, all you need to do is:... write an old-fashioned letter, or buy or create a greeting card and write a personal note in it, or create a drawing to brighten their day. Each #isomail would need to be generic so that the care facilities can issue to whichever residents they feel needs some cheering up. You are more than welcome to get your family / children involved, so let's all get creative! #isomail can be signed with your first name(s) and' Melbourne Grandies', but for privacy reasons, addresses should not be included. Once you have created your #isomail, pop it into the post to: The Executive Secretary, John Fawkner Private Hospital, 275 Moreland Road Coburg Vic 3058 and the Melbourne Grandies team will distribute in bulk to the care facilities. * Please place your letters / cards into individual envelopes and pop them into another envelope to post.

10.01.2022 Due to the current issues facing our global community the board of the Magic Moments Foundation have decided to postpone the 2020 Magic Moments Youth Leadership & Business Summit until July 2021. If you were registered to attend in any capacity you will shortly receive an email about the next steps. We are working with our speakers to deliver much needed online content to support all the youth in our community during these uncertain times. We wish your family health and we...llness at this time and be assured that this too shall pass. Use these rare moments to connect with your family members, play board games, set up obstacle / home work out courses in your back yards, cook food together and support each other. Before we know it we will all be back to our busy lives and it will be the memories of this time that we will hold onto - so make some great memories. If anyone needs support at this time then please reach out, don't be afraid to seek help and know that there are many people who want to help you through this. Looking forward to seeing you all very soon Sharon, Jules, Cory & Jenny The Board of the Magic Moments Foundation.

We put it on him they day after you came and he was able to sit outside in the sun with a massive smile beaming across his cheeks. That was his last time outside before he passed away last week. You guys are amazing with what you do!! Thank you so much" We've also been given approval to share some of the Grandies photos we took when distributing the gifts, so we've created a short video for you. Thank you again to all of our fantastic volunteers, you are amazing!

08.01.2022 We’re checking in with our fantastic Facebook family to make sure you are coping ok! Infectious disease outbreaks, like the current coronavirus (Covid-19), can be scary and can affect our mental health. While it is important to stay informed, there are also many things we can do to support and manage our wellbeing during these times. Things you can do to support yourself:... Try and keep in touch with your friends and family. Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting. Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try a mindfulness app.* Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs. Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy. Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling. *There are many apps available. 'Smiling Mind' is a free app developed by psychologists and educators and caters to all age groups with programs to help with mindfulness, sleep, digital detox, meditations and more. Try and reassure people you know who may be worried; check in with elderly neighbours and/or people who you know are living alone. Ask R U OK? Listen Encourage action Check in Making time for those around you can help people feel more connected and increase their sense of belonging. 02.01.2022 A BIG thank you to everyone who has been busily creating some fantastic notes and cards for residents in care facilities. We have lots of residents needing some cheer, so keep them coming. Don't forget, we'd also love to receive some in other languages! #isomail can be signed with your first name(s) and 'Melbourne Grandies', but for privacy reasons, addresses should not be included. 01.01.2022 For any of our fab volunteers who are creating isomail, we've had a request for some in other languages, such as: Turkish, Gujarah or Hindi, Arabic and Bengali. So, if you speak other languages, feel free to create some in any of these (or other) languages. Thanks so much everyone!
