23.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Annual Sir Kenneth Bailey Memorial Lecture last Wednesday! Professor Gerry Simpson led the audience along an autobiographical journey through the age of nuclear war (yes, there is a greater probability of nuclear war now than there ever was in the Cold War!). It was an absolutely fascinating lecture on how nuclearism is shaped, made legible and obscured by international law in todays society. The Sir Kenneth Bailey Memorial Lectu...re honours the fourth Dean of Melbourne Law School, Kenneth Hamilton Bailey, who played a significant part in Australias contribution to the formation of the United Nations. We are grateful to the Melbourne Law School and the Bailey family for the support in organising this event. #mjil #annuallecture #internationallaw #nuclearism

18.01.2022 MJIL is thrilled to announce that we will be co-hosting the 2016 Kenneth Bailey Memorial Lecture. This years speaker is Professor Guy Goodwin-Gill, speaking on the topic International Refugee Law: Yesterday, Today, but Tomorrow?. The international refugee law regime is currently facing fundamental challenges. We are witnessing unprecedented levels of forced displacement, and yet many developed states continue to implement a raft of policies, including securitisation, restrictions on access to asylum, exclusion, interception, and external controls, that threaten not only the scope of protection, but also the very foundations of the regime. In this lecture, Professor Goodwin-Gill reflects on the past and future of international refugee law.

16.01.2022 MJIL will be making a major announcement tomorrow morning! Stay tuned!
