22.01.2022 It is with much sadness that I inform our Melbourne Budokai family and friends the passing of Oda Sensei, Iaido 8th Dan Hanshi & Kendo 7th Dan Kyoshi. He has visited and held many seminars at the Kenshikan dojo and has many friends not only in Melbourne but also in Australia. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends. May he rest in peace. Paul Bserani President Melbourne Budokai

18.01.2022 Dear all, After much deliberation, Kendo representatives for all states have decided that the 2020 AKC will be cancelled. This includes the attaching seminar an...d Grading. Individual players will receive full refunds of the registration fees paid. The organising committee will send out the schedule and details soon. VKR is also committed to host the 2021 AKC. To the organising committee and volunteers, I sincerely thank you for the effort. I hope you have gained from this experience and will help us bring the project to fruit n in 2021. To the VKR executive committee and the VKTC, thank you for doing the background work while Michael and I have been spending the bulk of our time doing risk management. To the coaching team and squad members, I sincerely thank everyone for the blood, sweat and tears. Looking at your posts, I think we have gained a lot, experience, shared memories, team spirit. All of these are stepping stones for our continued and stronger campaign in 2021. We will also retain the home ground advantage for next year! To those of us who may have felt their needs during these times have been overlooked, I sincerely apologise. I know uncertainties is emotionally draining. I am glad that we have settled the most major and pressing ones today. Regarding our upcoming events, VKR will try our best to evaluate risks and benefits to the best of our abilities and give you some answers soon. In the mean time, please keep safe, both physically and emotionally. Yours sincerely, Cyntheia Lim President Victorian Kendo Renmei

17.01.2022 Dear All, After reviewing the coronavirus situation and its potential impacts on our community, the MBK committee has decided to close the dojo for a month. This closure will commence from Monday, 16 March 2020 to and including Monday, 13 April 2020. During this time, the MBK committee will continue to monitor the situation and depending on developments with the virus, we will make decisions regarding reopening or extending this closure period. During this closure, there wil...l be no activities held at Kenshikan, either run by MBK or any other parties. We also advise MBK members to avoid visiting other dojos. If we do cross training, we are exposed to the very same risk we are avoiding by shutting down Kenshikan. The MBK committee, like you, are disappointed with the closure of the dojo. However, we hope that you will understand and support the decision, particularly due to the current situation our community is in. If you have any questions, please contact us and we will try to answer them as best as we can. Wishing you all the very best. Paul Bserani President Melbourne Budokai

17.01.2022 Hi MBK Members (and friends of MBK). I hope you're all doing well and continuing with your training in one way or another. Just letting you know that as last Thursday's online Kendo Q&A session was the last scheduled session there will not be a session tomorrow morning. Future sessions will be discussed by the committee and Senseis in the next few days and a notification will be sent out once a decision has been made.... Cheers and keep safe. Paul Bserani President Melbourne Budokai

14.01.2022 Greetings MBK Member!! Unfortunately the VKR has decided to cancel the Kyu grading that was scheduled to be held tomorrow. This is disappointing news particularly for those attempting their first grading. I have no doubt this won't be the only disappointing news that will come out in the future so be prepared for anything.... Cheers and keep safe. Paul Bserani President Melbourne Budokai ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Secretary VKR Date: Sat, 14 Mar 2020 at 16:34 Subject: URGENT: Kendo grading tomorrow (15th March) Dear all, Due to health and safety issues, a few key stakeholders have to excuse themselves from the grading scheduled for tomorrow. With such short notice, and consideration for the negative impact of more delayed notice, the Kyu Grading on 15 March 2020 is cancelled. It is not possible for us to postpone this event due to uncertainties and factors out of our control. We will update you regarding the other gradings scheduled for March as soon as a decision is made. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. If you have any concerns, please do contact me on [email protected]. Your concerns will be heard. Yours sincerely, Cyntheia Lim President Victorian Kendo Renmei

02.01.2022 Postponement of the 2020 Nagae Taikai Dear MBK Member and Victorian Kendo Community. Over the last several months the coronavirus has been spreading across the world. Countries and organisations have been taking measures to contain and minimise it's spread. In some cases the measures have been minimal while others have been drastic. The situation has gradually gotten worse (actually in a couple of countries it has rapidly gotten worse) and is expected to get worse worldwid...Continue reading

02.01.2022 NO TRAINING: There will be no normal Sunday morning kendo training at Kenshikan this Sunday 1 March due to the VKR seminar.

01.01.2022 Today (20/12/2020) Melbourne Budokai had their EOY Christmas Lunch at the Royal Standard Hotel. The turnout was pretty good considering the environment we're living in. It was really great to see so many members at the one place at the one time. 2020 has been a tough year for many people. It's taken a tremendous effort by the MBK committee, the senseis and senior members to keep our members interested in training in the arts they love. A big thank you goes to them and our... members who have stuck with the club. Without all of the above, the club would not survive in these tough times. We all are grateful the club has continued to function and we hope that 2021 will be a much better year where we'll be able to hold all the normal events that MBK usually held prior to 2020 - intro courses, our normal training sessions, the Nagae and the Otsuka Taikais, a visit by Okada Sensei and maybe even a club trip to Hawaii. These events are the life blood of the club. On behalf of the MBK committee I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year. May 2021 be a much better year for you and your family. Cheers, thank you and keep safe. Paul Bserani President Melbourne Budokai
