25.01.2022 It's start-of-year academic testing time! Our MITS Year 7 students having been working away in our classroom down at Tigerland, preparing for their reading and maths tests. Great work everyone!

25.01.2022 It might be getting cooler down here in Melbourne, but that hasn't slowed down our students one bit Yesterday we held our MITS school assembly where we celebrated those students who have been kicking goals in recent weeks (figuratively and literally!). We continue to see this young group grow together and support each other every single day. They have all shown great courage and commitment, making themselves, their families and their communities very proud!

24.01.2022 Our young women standing strong & proud, sharing their culture Ruby, Rumarlea and Leah (MITS alumni) turned student-teachers yesterday, delivering 6 sessions to their Year 8 peers on Aboriginal symbols and storytelling. We think that's a pretty big deal and we're SUPER proud of them all! A special thanks to @camberwellgirls for providing the students with this platform and for sharing these pics :-)

22.01.2022 Alumni Girls' Boarding House award winners Congratulations to these students who have had an especially good start to the 2021 school year. As they say; you don't need to catch up from a good start! Opened in 2020, this boarding house is already full with 18 girls attending five great Melbourne Partner Schools each day. These students are doing a wonderful job of supporting each other as they embrace the opportunity of schooling in Melbourne.... Award winners: Kenita and Naomi (Room of the Week) Jocelyn (Respect) Rumarlea (Courage) Hazel (Boarding MVP) Ruby (Care) Well done everyone!!!

22.01.2022 It's only their first week at MITS, but our Year 7 students are already forming great friendships with their peers. Here's Clara, Lulu and Alison thoroughly enjoying themselves!

21.01.2022 Some of our alumni girls making a splash thank goodness it’s a heated pool!!!

19.01.2022 Where are they now??? Our students go on to do all sorts of incredible things post-MITS. Penny, who was part of our first MITS cohort back in 2016, has been busy at work caring for Country. She was part of a team of Warddeken rangers who were reinforcing fire breaks around four Anbinik forests. Cool fires were lit late in the day to ensure the forests won't be affected by wildfire. For Penny, this was the first time she had been on her father's Barradj Country (West Arn...hem Land), and Penny’s first time doing this kind of work. The camp was a great opportunity for experienced bininj (Indigenous) rangers to pass on skills and knowledge to younger daluk (women) rangers. We are all really proud of you Penny! A special thank you to Warddeken Land Management and Karrkad Kanjdji Trust for sharing this photo & story. See more

16.01.2022 Lorraine Kabbindi White (back, centre) is a and now she's an AWARD WINNER!!! Congratulations to Lorraine (MITS House Parent) for winning the "Exceptional Contribution to Indigenous Student Boarding Award" at the Indigenous Education and Boarding Australia awards ceremony last night! Lorraine, along with her partner Brad, do an outstanding job of caring for these six wonderful girls as they pursue their education here in Melbourne. Lorraine's commitment to creating a safe and supportive home-away-from-home for these MITS alumni is incredible. We are so proud of Lorraine (and Brad!) for all that they do for these girls - well done!!!

06.01.2022 It's been a big week for our Year 7s (and Year 9 alumni), with NAPLAN tests being sat across the country. All the students demonstrated great focus and effort - they should be proud!

05.01.2022 A quick update for our MITS families regarding the 7 day lockdown in Victoria due to COVID-19: 1) All MITS students and staff are safe. 2) Similar to the February lockdown, we have a COVIDSafe plan and are well prepared to keep our students safe, healthy and happy. We will have a weekend of fun boarding house activities planned for our students. ... 3) Under these restrictions, our Year 7s will be permitted to continue classes in person. Our Partner Schools are still making arrangements for MITS alumni. 4) We are confident this short lockdown will allow us to get back to normal very soon, as it did in February. If you have any questions, please call us.
