05.01.2022 **Anonymous Post** Advice needed - Preschool drop-off anxiety My almost 4-year-old son attends preschool 2 days a week (transitioning to 3 days a week this month). The centre is lovely and he has been there for over 6 months and has made a few friends who he talks about often. We have seen many improvements in him since he began attending preschool, but his drop-off is still an emotional rollercoaster.... On the morning of preschool we always talk about what he is going to do that day, the friends he will play with, and how much fun he will have. When we arrive he starts getting shy and will clingy to me and cry, saying "I want to go home" or "stay with me, Mummy". It is heartbreaking. The educators are great, try to comfort him at first then pick him up and take him inside. I feel his emotions are all for me, as when I call I am assured he calms down 5 mins later and is happily joining in with the activities the other kids are doing. Any advice is welcome for a new routine, a book to read, or even some encouraging words I can share with him to make the drop-off easier for us both.
