The project constraints were a lot of windows, openings, an access to a staircase and a ceiling beam splitting the space unequally. The core of the proposed design was to accommodate the different functions within the space. On the wish list a designer kitchen is required but also a dining space, a small lounge, a bar and a kid toys corner. To redefine and add personality to the space, a vertical screen providing ...support for artwork has been erected between the staircase and the dining room. The off the ground kitchen island is the social hub of the house and interact beautifully with the lounge space, the bar and the dining table. The L shape utility kitchen embrace and support the island bench practicality. The textures, colours, surfaces have been selected with great subtlety. 06.01.2022 Project in North Curl Curl, NSW Turning an odd shape room into a designer kitchen master piece. The magic behind this concept is to relink three spaces into one and give a feature element the main stage. In this case, the fridge cavity is glorified with a matt painted charcoal thick plasterboard surround and emblemised with a designer clock neatly floating off the timber veneer backing. Having three different ceiling heights with the same space has its challenge. The inserti...on of a dark bulkhead along the perimeter wall is to tie up the room visually and to insert a human scale in the space. This horizontal architecture language is broken by the cheerful floating island. High on his legs, the island is the primary space of the room and the social hub of the house. Its visual lightness will help to balance the two practical secondary spaces forming part of its surrounding which are; the pantry on the left side and the utility kitchen on the right. To add a third level of discovery to the odd space, a black steel frame door with frosted glass is serving as a partition between the butler section of the utility kitchen and the laundry. Matt Charcoal, satin white, raw concrete look benchtop, golden walnut veneer and smoked mirror are embracing and supporting the natural dark timber floor.
