21.01.2022 Melbourne Opera are thrilled to announce the members of the Richard Divall Emerging Artists Programme 2021. Two distinguished singers recent Herald Sun Aria award winner Georgia Wilkinson and Zwischenfach, Eleanor Greenwood will join returning programme members Louise Keast, Jane Magao, Michael Dimovski and Darcy Carroll. Shakira Dugan, Chloe Harris and Louis Hurley become Associate Artists alongside Rebecca Rashleigh and Stephen Marsh. Eleanor and Georgia clearly understa...nd the development and performance opportunities a programme such as ours offers for singers at various stages of their careers. A Zwischenfach is a voice which lies between two voice types. Eleanor applied to develop repertoire for her new soprano Fach:I have been singing as a mezzo soprano for some years but more recently I have made a change to soprano repertoire. I need to emerge as a Soprano Zwischenfach, and in order to have a real chance in this Fach, I will need to sing repertoire as a cover, from the coaching room, and in performance. Georgia observes: The opportunity to cover and perform roles in main stage operas will allow me to focus on expanding my repertoire of full roles rather than solely choice arias. Programme members and associates are busily engaged in rehearsals and preparations for ‘Das Rheingold’ which kicks off 2021, with Darcy Carroll singing the role of Donner (and covering the giant, Fasolt), Rebecca Rashleigh singing Woglinde, Louise Keast singing Wellgunde (and covering Freia), Jane Magao covering Woglinde, Eleanor Greenwood covering Wellgunde, Michael Dimovski covering Froh and Stephen Marsh covering Donner. Associate artist, Chloe Harris, along with Jane, Michael & Darcy, is appearing in the Sylvie Paladino Christmas concert next week. The Richard Divall Emerging Artists Programme exists to provide practical and essential opportunities through performance and industry experience alongside tailored language study, supported singing lessons and coaching. The Programme acknowledges the difficulties faced by singers throughout the COVID crisis and will reopen for applications in March 2021.

21.01.2022 Take a moment to read this thrilling review of Macbeth from The Spectator: This is a fine flawlessly consistent Macbeth, full of darkness with flashes of blinding revelation Beresford has created a production of the operatic Macbeth which has a constant intensity and a magnificent performance from Helena Dix as Lady Macbeth and a tough, probing stab at Macbeth from the baritone Simon Meadows - a credible noble warrior gone bad. The last aria is very fine The costumes by... Greg Carroll are rich and medieval. Adrian Tamburini is a fine capable Banquo and Samuel Sakker is a magnificent Macduff https://www.spectator.com.au/2021/05/macbeth See more

18.01.2022 A warm welcome back to the endlessly talented Suzanne Chaundy, now regarded as a Wagner specialist, following her acclaimed productions of Wagner’s Tristan & Isolde, Lohengrin, Tannhäuser, The Flying Dutchman and more. Fully fledged in Wagner’s work, Suzanne Chaundy’s impressively variegated direction gives clarity and sensitivity (Herald Sun) Director Suzanne Chaundy has helmed countless Melbourne Opera productions in the past, and her feel for Wagner’s allegorical tend...encies is on full display here.
