25.01.2022 Social Anxiety - and how can we manage it. As restrictions have eased in Melbourne and there are more and more social obligations heading into Christmas, many people are experience anxiety around social interactions. It is important that we understand these anxieties, and that facing some social interaction in a slow and controlled way can help to alleviate these anxieties further down the track. So how can we help in these new, anxiety-inducing situations? Ease back into it... Take your time and just start with a few social interactions at a time. It can be helpful to start with your inner circle and closest friends first! Start with a walk with one friend, and then a picnic in a park with a small group. This will help to create environments that are as comfortable as possible while adjusting to the new ways we socialise in 2020. Build from there! Be Gentle It is okay that you are experiencing these stresses and anxieties. It is important to know you are not alone, and you are allowed to be scared. If you are able to accept your feelings towards these new environments, then you can begin to socialise at a level that is comfortable for you. Self-care Gift yourself with the self-care you need. And we don't mean scented candles and a face mask. While these are great, there are other really important things you can do to take care of yourself during stressful times. Prioritise sleep, lay in the sun, read your favorite book, or talk to your close friends about your social anxieties. Be sure to take care of yourself first! Ask for help If you have done your best to try and ease yourself back into socialising, but still feel anxiety and panic, ask for help. Start by talking to a close family member or friend. Always remember that there are professioanls available to help you too including Beyond Blue and Lifeline. 2020 has been a wild ride and many people have expereinced increase stress and anxiety, not just you! We hope to find some of these tips helpful as you start catching up with your friends and family. ~ written by Tessa Ramsay

03.01.2022 Pregnancy can be a beautiful time, but it can also come with it’s aches and pains. Here are some of the common conditions throughout pregnancy that we see in the clinic and why: ~ Headaches: resulting from structural changes and resulting muscular and spinal compensations, as well as hormonal fluctuations. ~ Neck pain: pain resulting from changes in biomechanics, spinal curves and muscle memory. ~ Breathing issues: breathing may be affected by the increase in the hormone p...rogesterone, resulting in the need to breathe more deeply and frequently. Later in pregnancy, compression of your diaphragm and therefore lungs can limit the ability to breath deeply. ~ Heartburn: resulting from hormonal changes and the growing baby pressing against the stomach. ~Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS): structural changes can contribute to TOS, a condition which can affect the amount of blood flow that moves into the arms resulting in hand tingling. ~ Rib pain: Pain into the lower ribs as they start to flare out to create room. The baby can also push up against the diaphragm and intercostal muscles are stretched, both resulting in pain. ~ Carpal Tunnel: resulting from excess fluid retention at the wrists, compressing nerves and vascular supply. ~ Round ligament pain: A ligament that is stretched and pulled on tremendously as a baby grows. ~ Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction: when the ligaments that stabile the pelvis become too relaxed due to the hormone relaxin. As delivery nears, things are supposed to start loosening up, however this can cause instability and resulting pain. ~ Low back pain: structural changes within the spine, as well as increased compression or downward drag into the pelvic cavity can result in lower back pain. ~ Lower limb oedema: resulting from hormone induced sodium retention and in later stages compression/obstruction of flow. ~ Plantar Fasciitis: Resulting over pronation from increased weight gain, can cause stress and/or inflammation on the plantar fascia. If you are dealing with any of the above conditions, and would like to discuss treatment options, book in with one of our practitioners today. 03 9939 1289
