20.01.2022 Do you have calf tightness or calf pain with running? Reduced capacity and strength is likely your issue! Calf tightness is common when we increase our running volume too rapidly (which is a common occurrence in Melbourne at the moment, there's no other sports and exercise to do!!). Try a calf raise endurance test to see if you have reduced calf capacity. Perform as many calf raises as you can - ... 1. go up and down at 1 second tempo, 2. keep your ankle straight, don't let it roll outwards, 3. if you lose height, tempo or feel the burn too much this is your limit. How many can you do, is there a difference between your left and right?? If you're a runner ideally we want close to 30 reps! If you have a deficit try a heavy calf raise off a step 3 sets of 6-8 reps to build up your strength! #calfpain #calfmuscle #physio #strengthtraining #sportsmedicine

They want you to be as comfortable as possible after the massage’s effects wear off. Muscles have a long memory and if not addressed can get stuck in one position. Holding muscles in awkward positions can impact the nervous pathways throughout the body. ... For example, sticking your neck out to look at a computer screen for long periods at work. This could trigger neck and shoulder tension, upper back pain, and sometimes numbness and tingling down through the arms and hands. Here is another summary of a fantastic high-quality study that synthesised data of thousands of runners. It showed recreational runners had lower rates of hip and knee osteoarthritis (3.5%) compared to sedantary people (10.2%) and competitive runners (13.3%). We have to trust the process and know that with time and a really good plan, we will see the changes that we want to see! Whether it be a faster 5 km or a stronger 1 rep maximum. ... If we stick to our goals and show up for our training, we have to leave room for times when our session isn't "perfect" or the way we wished it would be.
