07.01.2022 Generally this is a very happy-go-lucky page. Last night, at home with my beautiful girls, we learned about the tragic murder of Kirralee Paepaerei and her unborn daughter in Sydney by her partner. She we will be missed by her four remaining children. The issue of violence against Women is systemic here in Australia. As many as 1 in 3 women has been a victim of it. The issue is deeply rooted in the cancerous culture we allow to thrive, we, both men and women here in Australia.... Boys will be boys, she'll be right, etc. My soon to be 4 year old daughter, has been bullied by a slightly older boy in her daycare for the past year. She had her lip split by him, kicked, pushed. Every time I speak to the Daycare Director, a lady of a previous generation, she tells me how this is normal, how kids will be kids, how children (i.e. my daughter) exaggerate events. Up to now, she has not even contacted his parents. Yesterday the same boy pushed my daughter and another girl to the ground again. In the grand scheme of things, not a big deal. Having said that, what this does, at such a young age, is teach girls like my daughter, that's this is ok. And even when they tell "authorities" and nothing gets better, that this is just how life works. That's where it starts. Obviously, I am going to have another conversation with the director. Spitting my dummy and losing my temper is the obvious choice, but that's not going to change her mindset or how she runs her daycare. I hope that this time I can get through to her. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do anymore for poor Kirralee, her unborn daughter and the thousands of senseless victims that are killed, hurt or raped every minute of every day around the globe. But we can affect our communities, families, places of work, by changing one person's mindset at a time. See more
