21.01.2022 According to the 2020 marketing statistics from @hubspot and @semrush: "51% of companies say updating old content has proven the most efficient tactic implemented." Don't fix what ain't broke, and don't just chuck copy on your website for the sake of doing it. Instead, make sure that you're regularly auditing the current content on your website. Sometimes all that's needed a bit of a content refresh, or optimising the copy with the latest trending keywords. ... Check out what your competitors are doing, see what's happening in the market. Aim to do this at least once every 3 months. Use it as a pulse check to see if everything is performing as you expected. See more

21.01.2022 Your online reviews are crucial for building trust, shaping perceptions of your brand, converting searches into leads and turning browsers into shoppers. According to a local consumer survey carried out by BrightLocal in 2019, 82% of consumers read online reviews. Whether that's through Google reviews, onsite reviews, socials or third-party review aggregator sites like Product Review, keeping your eye on your business's review is non-negotiable. It's free onli...ne street cred. Encourage customers to leave you a review - Incorporate it into your post-purchase automated email strategy. The easier you make it for your customers to leave a review, the more you'll get. Ask and you shall receive! Offer an incentive in return for a review - If you're a new biz or struggling to gain traction in reviews, you can always offer a discount off their next purchase or the chance to win a monthly competition for leaving a review. Respond to reviews, even the bad ones - It's not enough to just gather reviews. Show your customers and community that you care. Word up your appreciation to positive reviews and respond tactfully to negative reviews. Be present! Don't let your reviews get old and dusty - According to the same survey, 48% of consumers will only pay attention to reviews from the last fortnight. Make sure you're constantly working to get new, fresh reviews for your biz. There've been heaps of times where I've had my eye on a product and even though I'm obsessed with it, I won't buy it purely based on the volume of negative reviews - even more so if the negative reviews have gone unaddressed. I get it that you're always going to come across grumpy customers, and no one and no biz is perfect, but just show up and put your best game face on for potential customers!

17.01.2022 You know that saying that goes along the lines of "it's better to show up imperfectly than not show up at all"? I got you fam, THIS IS ME SHOWING UP, AND LOOKING MIGHTY FINE WHILE AT IT!!!! In my personal life, I'm a pretty private person. I don't even have my own insta. My furbabies have an insta (which is now royally neglected) and then there's this biz account. Like many other biz owners, I felt the need to show up on socials and prove my legit-ness. And all the social... gods are harping on about how you have to show your face in your feed, be real and connect with your audience. But what about those of us who are SUPER AWKS and hate photos? This is me 99% of the time in photos. I'm not normal and can't/won't pretend to be. 31 year old going on 3 year old and proud of it. You want to see my face? Here it is! This is just one of many more to come, so brace yourselves, Melinda is coming. And happy friday to you all, normal, non-camera freak people!

13.01.2022 We all deserve a lil' self-love and self-care. When in doubt, just follow this tip from @fulcandles The only time it's not relevant is when I'm encouraging my dogs to poo during a walk...Probably not a great idea to be chanting to myself in public "we're almost home, let's do poo poo now cos I can literally see you holding it in that lil' bum hole". Delightful! Besides the positive self-talk, a psychotic happy dance to Lime Cordiale usually works for me, if I'm feeling a little bleh.

02.12.2021 Meet two of my biggest loves in life - the husband and the terror...I could probably call them both terrors, depending on the day. This was the day we brought Daisy home, two years ago. Though she's the youngest, she pretty much rules the house with her 24/7 sass and lack of fear. Feeling particularly grateful this morning. When I was made redundant, the husband told me to take my time with figuring things out, take a break and not to worry about the finances. "Takin...g a break" didn't last very long for me though, within three days, I decided I was going to launch my own freelance copywriting biz. For the next month, I worked from day to night, skipping meals and breaks, to whip everything into shape. I haven't looked back since. Yes, I put a lot of hard work into it, being the OCD, restless freak I am. But I also know it wouldn't have been possible without the husband cheering me on and giving me his full support. This is a shoutout to all the special peeps in our lives who're always in our corner, being our biggest believers even when we're struggling to believe in ourselves. Who are you feeling the warm and fuzzies for this Wednesday? See more

14.11.2021 Are you a fellow introvert? I feel like I've spent my whole life preparing for COVID-19, with self-imposed stay at home rules. In saying that, now that we're back in lockdown, I'm all like "PLEASE LET ME GO OUT AND DO THINGS". : @lizandmollie... #introvert #homebody #stayhome #freelancework #covid19

02.11.2021 Got any tips on how to be normal during video conferencing calls? Help this girl out. Being the awkward human that I am, I still struggle with zoom and facetiming type calls. I just don't know what to do with my face and I'm incredibly fidgety. The husband decided to snap a photo of my intense face while on a zoom call with a copywriting client in Switzerland. Bit hard to concentrate when Crumpet and Daisy were busy wrestling at my feet. ... Just some of the WFH struggles. I've got a proper desktop set up in our front study, but that's my preferred spot for zoom meetings and the likes. Gotta make the most of that natural lighting. #zoommeeting #zoomcall #videoconferencing #wfh #remotework #workingfromhome #freelance #copywriter

31.10.2021 SEO TIP: If you have a local business or a storefront, make sure that your Google My Business (GMB) listing is as optimised as it can be, to maximise your local exposure. Let's pretend you just had a meeting a Moonee Ponds (or any area that's new to you), and now it's time for lunch. You're hungry and you have no idea where to go, but you're also fussy and won't settle for any old sammy. You likely searched "best cafe Moonee Ponds", "cafe near me", "pizza moonee pon...ds"...You get my drift. Once you hit search, all those little map listings instantly popped up, allowing you to sift through the recommendations. That's Google My Business in action for you. If you haven't created a GMB listing and you've been around for a bit, google search your business name to check if one's already been created for you. If there is one, you just need to claim it. Once you create and verify your listing (it's free to do so), your business has a higher chance of popping up across Google search and maps. This gives you added organic search exposure, aside from your website. Make sure that your GMB is as filled out as possible with all of your business's relevant data and keep it up to date. This includes: - Adding relevant keywords in your business description - Current business operating hours - Contact details - Link to your website (if you have one) - Logo, cover & additional photos - Responding to customer reviews - Answering questions Think of your Google My Business listing as a free mini website. #seotips #googletips #smallbusiness #localbusiness

18.10.2021 Whether you're writing a social post or a blog, it's vital that you know who you're speaking to. Who's your audience? Who's your target market? Think about the demographics such as age, gender, occupation, location, interests etc. Once you have a complete understanding of your audience, only then can you craft copy that effectively speaks to your people. For example, if you're advertising your hearing health services, it's likely that your audience is in an older age b...racket. Use of slang, modern buzz words, emojis probably doesn't cut it. On the other hand, it you're marketing to millennials, go for your life! So next time you write, spend time envisioning your audience and put yourself in their shoes. Speak their language. #copywritingtips #smallbusinesstips #marketingtips

14.10.2021 Sooooo turns out I'm living in a suburb that's been identified as a coronavirus 'hot spot', which means we're back to stage 3 lockdowns. On a positive note, I designed these business cards on Sunday and they arrived yesterday. How's that for quick delivery?! Just in time for lockdown. Thinking I might throw them at passing cars while walking the doggos, or hand them out at the supermarket while shopping for 'essentials'.

25.09.2021 Calling all business owners! What was it like when you first started out? I won't lie, I hate change and spontaneity most of the time. If I'm ever without my planner, I feel lost and dysfunctional. Starting my new freelance copywriting business has been an incredibly exciting, yet daunting experience. Leaving the security and comfort of having a 9 to 5 job that promises a stable income stream, to becoming my own boss has been a HUUUUGE change for me.... Never in my life have I learnt so much so quickly, through my own research and also via existing and new social networks. I've had to step out of my comfort zone and learn how to ask for help. #impostersyndrom But it's also been a blessing in disguise and for that, I'm grateful. Here's to new adventures and supporting local small businesses. Have an amazing Tuesday! : @lauraheartlines #newbusiness #smallbusinessaustralia #melbournebusiness #freelancecopywriter
