25.01.2022 A pleasure to announce the start of construction of the multi-million dollar TAFE NSW Nambucca Heads Connected Learning Centre (CLC), with the facility expected to be operational by mid-late next year. This state-of-the-art campus will open up new education and training opportunities in Nambucca Heads and provide students with access to in-demand courses, expert teachers and support services. The new $8 million CLC will be fitted with the latest learning technologies and tap ...into TAFE NSWs statewide network of campuses to provide world-class learning opportunities locally. This is the first ever TAFE NSW presence in the Nambucca Heads community, and I look forward to seeing local students take advantage of the incredible facility once it opens its doors next year.

24.01.2022 Its been a quarter of a century since NSW Police Force Senior Constables Robert Spears and Peter Addison, made the ultimate sacrifice when they were killed in the line of duty while protecting the community of Crescent Head from an armed gunman on July 9, 1995. What was supposed to be a routine domestic violence call, turned into a tragic event that not only tore apart two families but also stunned our coastal town. It remains one of the darkest day in the NSW police history. Today please join me on commemorating their lives, and to respect and acknowledge the sacrifices of the esteemed police men and women who continue to protect, aid and care for our community.

23.01.2022 It is National Road Safety week and a senior police officer has spoken of the heavy toll that comes with attending crashes on our roads. Chief superintendent Brendan Gorman told local media he spent three out of four shifts over the Christmas and New Year standing on the side of the road with a dead person in the vehicle I was devastated. Mr Gorman is a man with a blunt message: bad behaviour on our roads has caused great enduring pain for families, emergency services, ...and the wider community. The chief superintendent said the road safety message still wasn’t reaching everyone and at one point he had attended eight fatal accidents in just six months. He said there has been a spate of serious car accidents in recent weeks on our regional roads, and alcohol was a factor in roughly 20 per cent of all serious incidents. These are locals on local roads. Mr Gorman’s message reminded me of Dr Ray Jones. On October 20, 1989, Dr Jones was one of the first on scene after a semi-trailer veered onto the wrong side of the Pacific Highway and into a bus carrying 45 passengers near Grafton. This horrific experience led Dr Jones to become a vocal campaigner for upgrades to the notorious Pacific Highway in the years since. The Pacific Highway upgrade has now been upgraded to a four-lane divided road between Hexham and the Queensland border. This profound infrastructure project has saved many lives, but it hasn’t drawn a line in the sand on how we manage ourselves on local roads. To those lost, those grieved and those heroic men and women those in the emergency services who have borne witness and pain, I honour you. And for the rest of us the message is clear: everyone has the right to get home safe to their loved ones. With Dr Ray Jones on the day a section of the pacific highway was opened. Pat Conaghan MP

22.01.2022 The NSW Government will use helicopters for aerial inspections of fire trails across the state in preparation for the summer bushfire season. About 1500 km of fire trails will be inspected and then any necessary maintenance will be undertaken to ensure fire fighters and their vehicles can quickly access blazes if they break out before they develop into wildfires that can threaten life and property.

These rent waivers will be offered for eligible organisations as part of a national code of conduct to support businesses.... I know many businesses and organisations across the region have been doing it incredibly tough including places like my local Raleigh Hall and Im proud to have help assist eligible regional businesses and not-for-profits to bounce back and get back on their feet financially. 18.01.2022 In August 2017, I met Rachel Ward and she showed me plans her son had created - an idea of how Macksvilles River Street facade could be restored and reinvigorated. Three years on, with the help of a State Government grant of $150,000, work has begun to transform five of Macksvilles historic buildings to their former glory. Big thanks to Rachel, the Nambucca Business Advisory Council, local council, community and heritage experts for all their hard work. This is a collaborat...ive effort and one which will help restore Macksville to her former glory. 17.01.2022 Beautiful morning to announce, with the Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams, $17 million to fully upgrade Maria River Road between Port Macquarie and Crescent Head. For many years locals have been crying out for this road to be sealed as to create a safer, smoother drive for locals and visitors. The Maria River Rd upgrade is a joint state and federal funded project - so I thank the Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan for helping to ensure our regional communities reap the be...nefits faster. Todays announcement delivers on a commitment I made as both Minister for Roads and local member prior to the last State election - and I look forward to both Kempsey and Port Macquarie-Hastings councils completion of the job. 16.01.2022 It’s great to be with my Nationals colleague and the Minister for Regional Roads, Paul Toole, to check out a new 30,000-litre water tank that has been installed at Clybucca. It’s located just off the upgraded Pacific Highway and has the capacity to refill up to 10 firefighting trucks. It’s another water source for our fire crews access in times of emergencies.

15.01.2022 What a pleasure to join the opening of the new basketball court at Smithtown Park today. Congratulations must go to Smithtown Community Resource and Development Committee secretary Allyson Hickson and president Rebecca Box for driving this project. The committee raised more than $10,000 towards the $38,000 cost of the court, and were immensely grateful for the communitys support.... Thanks also to the Nestle Australia Smithtown factory which contributed a mighty $25,000 via a community grant, and to the Mid North Coast Local Health District for $3000 via a healthy community grant. Nestle factory manager Matt Oram was at the opening today, along with the Smithtown School pupils and teachers, and representatives of the Smithtown Sport and Recreational Club and the General Store and Post Office, who also played a huge part in raising funds to make this project happen. Well done to all involved.

15.01.2022 After more than 100kms over five days with the twin aims of promoting our incredible coastline and highlighting the importance of exercise for mental health - I’ve crossed the finish line! Thanks to those who joined me from Nambucca to Valla and up the coast to Urunga. Big round of applause to the Hungry Head Surf Club, especially Jim Mccullugh and Tim, who on Father’s Day have made the super effort and took me across the river mouth to Mylestom.... Fantastic to be met by Trevor Williams and Nick Young - local clubby legend who had the ATV beside me just in case I broke down in the last four kilometres ... and my mum and dad’s friend Rodger Pryce - who made a generous donation. Today ends a trek that has been on my ‘to-do’ list since being elected as the Member for Oxley in 2015 it was initially devised as an idea to promote the Mid North Coast region as the ideal place to visit, or even better, live. However, since then, it has became clear that the walk would also highlight how exercise has a positive impact on mental health. To that end, I want to offer my true appreciation for all those who donated to the two charities I nominated which both address and promote positive mental health messages, Dolly’s Dream and Baylin’s Gift. Your efforts make all the difference. Over the past few days I have been joined by locals, NPWS and Crown Lands, as well as the Governor of New South Wales, Margaret Beazley - thank you for your time and efforts. Thanks to the many who have reached out in a myriad of ways - your support and feedback from this grassroots initiative was tremendous. I love this region, I am so proud to represent our communities. I will continue to showcase our backyard as the best place to live and work, as well as making sure all our communities, and those within it, thrive. PS. Happy Father’s Day Warren - thanks for being the best support crew for the past five days ... and for that matter, every day of the year xx

This project has been funded by the NSW Governments Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF) and ClubGRANTS program, with contributions from Kempsey Shire Council, Football NSW and AFL NSW/ACT. 13.01.2022 I just want to remind landholders funding is still available through the Supporting Our Neighbours program. This initiative to help eligible landholders replace bushfire damaged boundary fencing adjoining public lands, and I would hate to see someone who needs it to miss out. Fencing loss was a major issue for farmers in our region during the devastating 2019/20 bushfire season, which is why the NSW Government committed $209 million to the Supporting Our Neighbours program. ... The Program allows landholders to receive a one-off grant of up to $5,000 per kilometre to purchase fencing materials, which will go a long way to helping them cover the cost. If any rural landholders have lost any boundary fencing with your public lands neighbour, please get in touch with the Local Land Services staff. For more information about the ‘Supporting our Neighbours’ program and to apply, visit www.lls.nsw.gov.au/fencing or call 1300 778 080.

Give our women the recognition they deserve - nominate her now for the 2021 NSW Women of the Year Awards. 12.01.2022 Take a bow AFL North Coast - under the most trying of circumstances you’ve put on a ripper of a season culminating in a sensational Grand Final Day at Coffs Coast Stadium. Congratulations Emily Conlon for best on ground for the women’s final for the Breakers. Had the joy of watching my Emily play her first season of AFL - following in her brothers footsteps - and now she has a winning medal around her neck.... In fact it’s been a real family tradition with my Dad and brother playing in the ‘80s for South Coffs when we moved up from country Victoria. Not all of us were born here - a hell of a lot of us moved here for one reason or another and many have been Victorians looking for a better climate, beaches and opportunities. That is why towns like Grafton, Woolgoolga, Nambucca Heads, and Coffs have been able to field final teams today. Thankyou to the administrators, the umpires, the coaches, the maseurs, the water carriers, the sponsors, the volunteers, the families and of course the banner makers!! Matt Crawley Michael Moffett

12.01.2022 Covid update As of 9am this morning there are no new cases of Covid-19 in our region. In NSW, 13 new cases have been confirmed within the past 24 hrs, 10 of which are linked to the Crossroads Hotel in Sydney. ... This outbreak of Covid-19 community transmission has led to a tightening of restrictions. It should be stated again the importance of following the latest health advice including social distancing and good hygiene practises.

11.01.2022 Beachgoers will be better protected against shark attacks, with the NSW Government investing $8 million in world-leading shark management technologies up and down the NSW coast. Lifesaving NSW will deploy drones at 34 beaches up and down the coast, including locally; ~ Sawtell ~ Urunga ... ~ Macksville Scotts Head ~ South West Rocks ~ Crescent Head ~ Lighthouse Beach As part of the Lifesaving community I know how great this investment will be; a modern fleet of shark-spotting drones which will give greater security and confidence to all beachgoers. Its important to note, the new approach to shark management was based on five years of scientific research into shark behaviour and trialling the most effective ways to protect beachgoers. Our world-leading research showed SMART Drumlines and drones are the most effective detection and surveillance tools. So while no government can ever fully reduce the risk of shark interactions at our beaches this new program will provide the best in modern protection methods to our coastal communities. Full results of the NSW Governments Shark Management Strategy are available on the SharkSmart: www.sharksmart.nsw.gov.au/

11.01.2022 Here’s the wrap for the day - another incredible walk with delightful locals and a trip across the water with the life saving crew! I love my region, it’s the landscape and beauty for sure - but what makes it special is the people. After the trek today I was treated to an incredible surprise at Nambucca RSL. ... The entire board and management greeted me with such hospitality, but more importantly, handed over $1000 which is to be shared between Baylin’s Gift and Dollys Dream. This donation comes on top of a $200 donation from SWR Surf Club surf club for Baylin’s Gift. I can not thank the Nambucca’s RSL board members Terrie Hyslop and Wendy Mills - truly a wonderful and kind gesture this evening. The community outpouring during these past four days has been uplifting and with one day left, I can safely say this has been the best week I’ve spent for a long time. Thank you x

11.01.2022 Yesterday the Minister for the Environment, Matt Kean, Member for the Tablelands Adam Marshall and I travelled to Oven Mountain to announce the accelerated approval status to a billion-dollar pumped hydro project. When completed, the venture backed by Alinta Energy, will generate as much as 600 megawatts of electricity by releasing water between two reservoirs near the Macleay River between Armidale and Kempsey. This project will unlock twice as much renewable energy invest...ment and reduce grid congestion - as well as creating up to 600 new local jobs during construction alone. This is truly a game changer for our region, an incredible development to drive energy prices down and grow our local economy. Big thanks to the project team, Anthony and Jeremy, who joined us on the riverbanks. 10.01.2022 There are super exciting works happening at both Kempsey and Wauchope Showgrounds - very proud to have helped get these projects off the ground.

10.01.2022 During the four years of the 'Great' War, more than 330,000 Australians served overseas, and more than 60,000 died. On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent - and 102 years later, we continue to remember them. Parliament is on this week, so I am unable to join commemoration services being held across the Mid North Coast, but at 11am I along with the country will pay tribute to those who have died or suffered in their service for all of us.... I also want to acknowledge the service of the tens of thousands of Australians who’ve served in conflicts since. They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Lest we forget.

09.01.2022 NEW HUB OFFERS A SAFE PLACE FOR YOUTH IN NEED This morning I joined the Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan to announce a major $6.5 million investment. Macleay Valley youth, young mothers and children escaping domestic violence and homelessness will soon have a safe place to go.... This vital community project funded by the Australian and NSW Governments will provide more than just crisis accommodation, it will offer services from the old Kempsey Ambulance Station site to help young people realise their potential. We know Kempsey youth are in need of better services and this investment supports our community’s most vulnerable people. A development application for this youth hub/family community centre is currently on exhibition through Kempsey Shire Council. It is proposed to have up to 24 rooms for crisis accommodation, as well as a common area for youth activities and a café. The hub will also have 24/7 on-site caretaker who will coordinate services and supports for individuals to help them transition to independence. In addition it will also link young people to additional services they may require such as mental health outreach services, drug and alcohol programs or financial and life skills counselling. I’m truly excited about this project which if approved for development and I thank Pat for his advocacy.

08.01.2022 COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS TIGHTENED The NSW Government has tightened COVID-19 restrictions around higher risk activities as the pandemic enters a new phase of community transmission. From today, the following rules will be in force as NSW enters a state of COVID normal.... Compliance measures introduced to pubs will be extended to restaurants, bars cafs and clubs. This includes: - Limiting group bookings to a maximum of 10 people; - Mandatory COVID-Safe plans and registration as a COVID-Safe business; and - A digital record must be created within 24 hours. Weddings and corporate events will be limited to 150 people subject to the four square metre rule and registration as a COVID-Safe business. Strict COVID-Safe plans must be in place and high-risk activities. Funerals and places of worship will be limited to 100 people, subject to the one person per four square metre rule and a COVID-Safe business registration. The rules on gatherings remain the same: 20 guests inside the home and 20 for gatherings in a public place. However, as the home is a high transmission area, the NSW Chief Health Officer strongly recommends a COVID-Safe precautionary approach of limiting visitors to the home to 10 people as a general principle.

08.01.2022 Today I joined the local community to pause and reflect on Australias efforts in the Second World War as we mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific (VP DAY). VP Day on August 15, 1945 was the official end of a war in which nearly 1 million Australians served in the armed forces. More than 39,000 Australians lost their lives, more than 23,000 were wounded, and more than 30,000 were taken prisoner of war.... Its important we all recognise and honour those who gave up so much to protect our country and our freedom. We will never forget the bravery, courage and sacrifice from Australians who fought for their country in the Second World War. Big thank you to all the locals who took the time to speak with me this morning, Alison Carter, Mr and Mrs Tyson, the CWA ladies and of course our incredible local volunteers at the museums all throughout the region. Our local stories are passed onto the next generations via these treasure trove of places and people. The NSW Government has compiled a digital catalogue of articles and videos of WWII veterans and widows telling their stories to ensure their efforts in the Second World War are not forgotten. Stories from NSW veterans from the Second World War can be viewed on the NSW Government Stories page: https://www.warmemorialsregister.nsw.gov.au/nsw-stories

08.01.2022 Alongside Nambucca Shire’s Mayor Rhonda Hoban, this morning I announced $3.6 million to fund the replacement of the failing sea wall at Main Beach. This project is essential protection for the roadway and the carpark, as well as, help prevent the shoreline from washing away during damaging swells and stormfronts. Preserving our popular beach and coastline so it can be enjoyed for many years to come benefits our community and the Main Beach Surf Lifesaving Club. ... Big thanks to Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan MP for contributing 50:50 funds and also congratulations to Nambucca Shire Council for submitting the grant application. Great example of three tiers of government delivering for our community

06.01.2022 Vale Helen Reddy. We are strong. We are invincible.... We are women. Our shared anthem that made the impossible possible. Enjoy your mansion in the sky.

05.01.2022 Well just like that she is 18. How lucky we are to have this beautiful soul as our daughter. Our happy delightful baby girl -what joy you bring us and all those that enter your path.... We are so enormously proud of what you have blossomed into- so smart, sassy, fun, kind and an absolute joy to be around. Whilst the timing of your modern adult hood isnt the best - middle of trial exams and the worlds biggest pandemic in 100 years - the quiet time it has given us with you is something that we will always cherish. You were only weeks old when I was sworn into the NSW Parliament- its fair to say no two weeks have been the same for you, but your beautiful Dad has been your rock and weve had so many incredible times. You are about to fly into your adult life but though you may be about to leave home you will never escape our love and support. Have a fabulous birthday - and enjoy your special day xx

05.01.2022 NEW DORRIGO ROUNDABOUT CUTS DRIVER CONFUSION Dorrigo’s new roundabout has been completed! Previously, visitors would incorrectly navigate the cenotaph intersection, causing much confusion - thankfully, the new roundabout will remove misconception and help make the town centre much safer. ... The $2 million project, carried out as part of the NSW Government’s $50 million Waterfall Way Improvement Program, has supported 10 local jobs and five local contractors. I should add the WWI cenotaph, which was damaged by a motor vehicle, will be fixed soon. An artisan stonemason has been engaged to return the statue to its former glory, and landscaping work will also complement the refurbished cenotaph. For those not familiar with Dorrigo’s history, the iconic cenotaph was installed by the Dorrigo community and was originally dedicated in 1921 to honour the town’s contribution of 460 men and one nurse during the Great War (WWI).

05.01.2022 The latest rainfall has provided much relief - but we still need some big rains on the western side of the great divide. I spoke to Chris Kenny this afternoon to give an update of the States latest rainfall and water storage capacities.

Thanks to Nambucca Valley Council mayor Rhonda Hoban, general manager Michael Coulter and tourism and economic representatives at the council who welcomed us this morning in Macksville. This was followed by a tour of Express Coach Builders and a visit to the Mid Coast Trucks workshop. These are two stellar local businesses leading the way in Austr...alian made manufacturing. 03.01.2022 The NSW Government will begin a process to seek community feedback on possible changes to the state’s property tax system that could help the people of NSW achieve the Australian dream of owning their own home. By giving people the option to axe stamp duty (and land tax, if applicable), and pay an annual charge instead, more people could have greater choice about when and where they buy a home removing tens of thousands of dollars from the upfront costs of buying a home. To...gether, these changes could put money back into the pockets of the people of NSW when they take the significant financial step of buying a home. These reforms could also give the people of NSW the freedom to live where they want, when they want and to choose the home that best suits their family, jobs and lifestyle. We want to hear from the people in our region about how changes to the system can help them. We want to hear from the community about what this proposal would mean for you and your needs. We also want feedback on what you think we could do to improve the proposal. We have plenty of time to hear your voice. The public consultation period will be open until 15 March 2021. Here’s how you can offer feedback: www.treasury.nsw.gov.au/property-tax-proposal

02.01.2022 Sure feels like the chosen place, no better place to live. Happy Friday.

02.01.2022 NEW ROAD SIGNS SHOW OFF NAMBUCCA AND KEMPSEY And they are up! The highway bypass signs have now been installed at Kempsey and Nambucca.... These signs are designed to drive more visitors off the highway and into our local towns - helping out our businesses and showcasing our region. Theyve been installed on both the northbound and southbound approaches to each town, tempting travellers to call in and take a break. The signs at Nambucca show off the beauty of the Nambucca Estuary, and were chosen by Nambucca Valley Council and stakeholders. The picture selected for Kempsey shows the beautiful historic buildings that line one of the towns main streets and displays the upgrades received as a result of the bypass. Thanks to everyone involved with these projects, its a great partnership between community consultation and government.

01.01.2022 I’ve dedicated my life to representing communities, and despite the sacrifices, I’ve always believed it’s been a privilege and honour. Thankfully my daughter Emily, is of the same opinion too. Honestly, I can’t be prouder of how Emily’s embraced my career and I know she’ll have the mettle to forge her own path as she heads into the world. I should also mention, our son Jack turned 21 this year. He’s finishing his degree at ADFA and will be off to Duntroon. He’s a born leader, and a young man I know our country can be proud to have as one of their own.
