12.01.2022 Katie Noonan recorded "Les Feuilles Mortes" (Autumn Leaves) - originally performed by Edith Piaf. I grew up listening to the wonderful Nat King Cole with my Dad and I first heard him sing this song and was instantly transported to a special place. Years later I discovered the French version which also included the verse (which is rarely done) and fell in love with it! It felt very special to do it with my trio Elixir and take it into our musical landscape." -- Katie Noonan... Track 4 on the Melodie Francaise album, "Les feuilles mortes" was written in 1945 literally meaning "The Dead Leaves", with music by Hungarian-French composer Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert. On Christmas Eve 1950, French singer Edith Piaf sang both French and English versions of this song on a radio programme. The film Autumn Leaves (1956) starring Joan Crawford featured the song, as sung by Nat King Cole, over the title sequence. Watch the trailer from the movie below:
