25.01.2022 Just when we thought the week couldn't get any better....This was delivered to the Locomotive Storage warehouse today. It's safe to say it caused a stir in Marg...ate (and some traffic!). This Eurostar now sits proudly alongside a whole host of other locomotives and rolling stock in the warehouse next door to Hornby HQ. See more

25.01.2022 An update on what’s going on at the workshop, as work on carriage BRS 224 is advancing, previous posts hinted at some bodywork corrosion in the 1940 built car..., which had a bit of deterioration to external steel over time, we are almost ready to return the windows & frames to permit external undercoating. Thanks to our volunteers for their work to date, for the car to hopefully be ready for the Dunolly trip on Feb 15. The photos included display some of the work on BRS 224 thus far.

19.01.2022 We’re very pleased to announce and show progress on our new project that our fabulous diesel team have been working away on for a few weeks now. With thanks to ...our ongoing excellent relationship with Pacific National we have been busy recently, reactivating locomotive S 306 which will be used on some of our future mainline tours. Today the locomotive was moved, under its own power for the first time in our care. You’ll see S 306 on future 707 Operations Inc trains, and we are hoping to have it available and working on our next GRAINLANDER diesel hauled train, which goes from Melbourne to Manangatang departing on Friday 13th of March 2020! Want to travel behind S 306 on this amazing tour? Limited sleeping accomodation remains. Bookings: https://www.trybooking.com/BGUBI

17.01.2022 We are once again grateful to our valued volunteers at the workshops and behind the scenes as we forge into the summertime maintenance period on Steam Loco R 70...7 , as well as carriage work and forward tour planning. It is pleasing to advise , after deferring work for a few years , that we have structured a process of obtaining a replacement set of superheater elements for R 707. The spare supplies of elements and the ones in the loco are life expired , having served their purpose since restoration in 1985. Last week the order for the steel to manufacture the Elements was placed, at a cost of $28, 000.00 with a full set , assembled and shaped to size, likely to cost In the vicinity of $80,000.00 + Other summertime maintenance work on R 707 will see repairs to the Ashpan , regulator pilot valve , and various other items. The carriage repainting program sees carriage BRS 224 in the process of needle scaling both sides , window frame cleaning, water damaged window frame carriage body repair , rust repairs to holes found in the body work structure - Further details are found in the photo captions - We thank our membership for their support and volunteers for their ongoing time & valuable contributions ! Membership details are at - http://www.707operations.com.au//707%20Ops%20-%20F19-20%20

12.01.2022 STREAMLINERS 2021 UPDATE - Originally it was posted that Streamliners 2021 would happen during January of 2021, however this is NOT the case. We're pleased to a...nnounce the event will be held at the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre on the 1st-4th of October, 2021. With 2 years to go until we see 30+ vintage streamliners congregate in Goulburn, we've begun planning what will be a much bigger event than 2016 was. Plenty of cool ideas have already been thought of, but we'd love to hear some of yours! What would you like to see at Streamliners 2021, and what can be done better from the 2016 event. Let us know in the comments below. See more

10.01.2022 Heads up #Wingello and #Bundanoon! The NSW Rail Museum and Transport Heritage NSW are today delivering a special train of three water-gins to your village. ...The train is carrying 110,000 litres of water and is equivalent to around 33 fire-trucks. They will be used to support local efforts to fight the Currowan fire, as some of the local towns with limited water supply. Please join us in sending our best wishes to the NSW Rural Fire Service. Special thanks to Pacific National for allowing the use of their siding at Wingello, Australian Rail Track Corporation Ltd. for facilitating the movement on their network and Lachlan Valley Railway for the loan of an extra water gin.

08.01.2022 It was a common practice for Victorian Railways to load-test a new bridge by rolling heavy locomotives on to the new structure and measuring deflection under lo...ad. The new Maribyrnong River bridge was so tested in 1928 by rolling four C class steam locomotives (each weighing in at 128 tons) on to it. Today Newport Railway Museum volunteers applied this same scientific process to our newly-constructed footbridge by load testing it with the 1/12 scale model of diesel-electric locomotive S300 'Matthew Flinders'. We observed no measurable deflection and with this exhaustive testing now completed we are now confident that the structure is ready to take the weight of our visitors entering and exiting the Museum grounds this weekend! :) ;) :) The new bridge was built for us by Mobil as part of their project to replace the oil pipeline running along the front fence of the Museum site. Mobil have been wonderful people to deal with throughout this project and we are mightily impressed by the high standard of construction in the new footbridge. The Railway Museum is now open on both Saturday AND Sunday 12 noon to 5pm for the next three weekends as we switch to our school holiday opening hours.

07.01.2022 Some of the volunteer team - just for the Monday of the Open Days
