24.01.2022 With the pending Rememberance Day nearly upon us, the reading of an address I have been asked to deliver tomorrow and delivery today to the NSW State Library an...d the RAHS of my republication of the letters of Private James Blackwood grandson of the founder of J Blackwoods now in its 140th year it is incumbent on me to remember those of my heritage who have served and some who died and the enormous sacrifices that our own parents and grandparents made that we today are a free nation. May the words forever be held dear and tribute paid Lest we Forget! See more

18.01.2022 Absolutely fantastic value. So well cared for you would think it was new. Complete with an extension table it has great versatility for the large panels you have trouble supporting. Located in Barden Ridge for immediate purchase only $250.

14.01.2022 A big big thank you to Guatam, owner of IGA Menai. Seen here with some of his staff presenting a sizeable cheque to the Menai Men’s Shed to assist their work in the community. Please support Guatam and Menai IGA

12.01.2022 Ken had done a great job in making this garden shed for a lady. Guess what Ken’s favourite colour is?

12.01.2022 Another successful shed project completed for our local council. This time, the job overseen by Tom and Ric, was playground equipment at a local childcare centre and by all accounts the kid's love it.

10.01.2022 Bob had made a nice picnic table that folds up into a carry basket

10.01.2022 The Shed helps farewell a Legend Along with the family and friends of highly esteemed Menai Mens Shed Life Member Clem CHARLES, Committee and members from the Shed gathered this week to salute the life and times of Clem who sadly passed away last week aged 97. All agreed that Clem leaves us all the richer for having known him.

09.01.2022 Another great community project built by the Menai Mens Shed. A shelving unit at the Orana facility in Sutherland. The shelving unit was designed and manufactured at the Menai Mens Shed in Barden Ridge and installed in the Orana facility in Sutherland.

08.01.2022 Way back in August 2010, a small group of 5-6 like minded men held a meeting, the outcome of which decided that they would operate a Men’s Shed known as Menai Mens Shed. 10 years later and after a couple different locations to call home, at present over 100 members, including at least 2 members from that initial landmark meeting in 2010, now call the ‘Big Green Shed’ at 30 Recreation Drive, Barden Ridge home. Our current men’s membership age group covers from 32 right up... to 96 years old with all sorts of life’s experience on tap to assist other members whether they are in need the wisdom or not at times. Thanks to the efforts of the various committees since inception, the Shed has continued to evolve over the years, not only catering to the needs of the Shed members which continues to diversify but also to be in a position to give back to not only the local community but also other Mens Sheds, some just setting up operations, as well as other established Sheds who lost all their equipment in the recent devastating bushfires. The current pandemic has unfortunately put on hold any thoughts of celebrating the 10 year milestone as a large group so in the meantime the Shed will just get on with business until we can finally celebrate the milestone as a group.

06.01.2022 Some of the Shed members who braved the elements last Friday to attend the MMS Xmas Lunch at the Shed.

06.01.2022 My sincere thanks to all who supported me in the Menai Mens Shed Secretarial role over the past three years, it seems others thought a change was needed. Records have been passed over and final wash up happening even as this is being typed. To all of the friends and contacts I made be it at AMSA, IMB, SSC, CWA along with many others I wish you well and look forward to crossing paths along the way. My best wishes. Don Rothnie (DonR)

06.01.2022 Hi All, finally catching up with an important story. Some couple of months ago a member Brian Powell restored a 1935, yes 1935 Rocking Horse. It was determined we would raffle it and raise funds for the Sutherland Hospital. Not as easily done as stated so we moved our process as follows. Thanks to the support of the CWA - you may remember we donated $1800 to their drought appeal last November - they have taken on the onus of printing the tickets and sell...ing via their groups. In conjunction with this we have been greatly supported by the IMB banking branches in the Shire. These are Menai, Sutherland, Sylvania (its current stable), Miranda and Cronulla. All these have tickets and are able to assist you join the competition. Oh and what we raise will be allocated fingers crossed, as follows Sutherland Hospital $1,000, our costs of restoration and the CWA the balance of funds for education scholarships for under privileged country students. You chance to win a marvellous heritage horse. Only $5 a ticket at the IMB branches listed or Don 0409820815. See more

05.01.2022 Thanks Melanie, delighted to host you and Daniel many thanks for your support. I am sure we will find some item to bother you with in the coming months. DonR Secretary

03.01.2022 The Shed helps bridge the gap. Members from the Shed were only too happy to assist, following a request from ANSTO Child Care for a 3 metre bridge to help the kids with their development. Pictured are a group of happy young ‘budding engineers’ conducting their own version of ‘stress testing’ while one of the staff and the installers from the Shed look on.

02.01.2022 Hi all of our followers. I thought January was a layback month and it has proved anything but. One of the hilites of the past week however was linking up (again) with the ladies from the CWA at the presentation of a hamper from The Professionals Illawong. They are always supportive of the Shed and we had first offer but felt it better placed with our friends at CWA. The image shows Cathy Sloan and Tracey Bonfante either side of of Glenn Attlee, he posed with a jar of strawberry jam from the girls (1 of many 1000's they made and found no needles) and flanked by Bill Black VP on the left and Don Rothnie Secretary on the right. Good spirit and friendship on the day.
