16.01.2022 Classic Cars Display Large crowds of locals and visitors gathered at the corner of Princes Highway and Albert Road on Sunday to check out a display of around twenty classic vehicles and a couple of boats. The pop-up event was organised by Andrew Dawes and attracted large crowds of car enthusiasts to inspect the vehicles. While many of the vehicles were locally owned a few outside owners also participated bringing in some more unusual cars including a bread van and a bus.

14.01.2022 Wow, we had a great day at the swap meet today. Ignoring the weather forecast paid off. We had a perfect day, very little wind and not a drop of rain. Thanks to all the volunteers. Bigger and better next year!

13.01.2022 The Meningie forest of Christmas trees grew over the weekend. Meningie Museum's tree was put together by the Saints. We all agree that it is great!

10.01.2022 Is there anyone out there who might have any details about the old Meningie Blitz bulk water tanker? It was purchased from a farmer at Tintinata by a military vehicle restorer who would like some documentation and/or images to be able to connect it with our area.

10.01.2022 Successful Swap Meet Event Several hundred people from as far away as Adelaide and Bordertown gathered at the Meningie Museum block on Saturday for the second annual swap meet. While the 2019 inaugural event only attracted eight stalls, more than twenty stall holders participated in this year’s event. Despite the poor weather, the stall holders were happy with the event and vow to return next year. The event is held in conjunction with the visit of the Classic Caravaners club... to the Lake Albert Caravan Park, and while the caravans were not able to open to the public this year due to COVID-19, many of the guests ventured across the road to the swap meet. There was a good variety of traders ranging from the two blacksmiths demonstrating their skills, to car part vendors, garage sale stalls, plants and a range of items access to the Museum’s needs. With the 2021 Classic Caravan event planned for later in November, the Meningie Museum have tentatively dated next year’s event for 20 November, provided they can source a more accommodating insurance company that is willing to cover the event. If anyone can advise them on a more flexible insurance company, please contact president, John Boundy. One of the organisers, Marianne Cunneen said that swap meet type events have become as popular as markets over recent years with such events growing in rural areas, Meningie can tap unto this market and gain a great deal of visitor attention with people coming from near and far to sell, trade or buy. 03.01.2022 Denise Mason’s father recently donated a buggy to the Meningie Cheese Factory Museum. It was totally dismantled and our volunteers had no idea that a buggy had so many parts, and to confuse them even more, there were other parts belonging to another item mixed in with the bits and pieces. The job was given to one of our amazing volunteers, Graham Wright who took the challenge to sort out the jigsaw puzzle. It took him two months of constant work to put it all together and var...nished the wood. The steel was already painted. Peter Saint found a spare set of buggy lights at the museum that has fitted perfectly and looks great. Although the buggy was donated, it still cost a lot of money to complete, $500 was spent on paint and bolts screws etc. In February our volunteers will take the buggy to Mypolonga where it will cost another $500 to get the upholstery done. The Museum volunteers believe the cost is worth every cent. The buggy, an Adelaide Express, was built in the 1890’s by Duncan and Fraser. We all look forward to having it on show for all to see. 03.01.2022 the Meningie Cheese Factory Museum is the recipient of a $5000 grant to assist with the cost of installing a cement floor in a shed that was initially donated to the museum by Andrew Dawes. That shed is now affectionately referred to as Dawsies shed. The concrete was laid last week by Kym Hopgood and we thank him for a job well done. Andy Herrmann supplied the concrete, thank you, and the job was made a bit easier as museum men pushed wheelbarrows of cement into the shed as i...t was laid. The project is proudly supported by the Coorong District Council Community Grants Program The museum has a need to shift some of its exhibits as we expand and tell the story of the district’s history. We are also fortunate to have a very active membership that meets once a week to work on various projects. We have a lot happening at the moment and that includes restoration of a Landrover, various stationary engines and a possible restoration of an AMSCOL’ truck in the future if we can secure funding. There are also plans to repair and extend our current infrastructure So as you can see there’s a lot happening, come and have a look. John Boundy, President See more
