25.01.2022 DONT TAKE THE BAIT: A new phishing attack is using a number of tactics to trick unsuspecting users into handing over their login credentials. The email claims you have unread emails due to your cloud storage being full. Clicking on either link sends you to a phony login page for your service provider. And any information on this page will be sent directly to the scammers. Tips to remember: * Phishing emails are often designed to create a sense of urgency. In this case, the i...dea that youre missing important emails. * Think before you click, the bad guys rely on impulsive clicks. * Email security filters can only do so much to protect your sensitive information. Stay alert and help create a human firewall for your organisation. * When an email asks you to log in to an account or online service, log in to your account through your browser and not by clicking the link in the email. 24.01.2022 As COVID-19 restrictions ease, some states & territories are managing the ongoing risks of the virus by requiring businesses to collect personal information about customers & visitors to their premises. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has released guidelines for collecting this information. * You should only collect the personal information required under the Direction or Order. * You should notify individuals before you collect the personal infor...mation. * You should securely store this information once you have collected it. * You should only provide this information to relevant health authorities who undertake contact tracing activities, when requested to do so. * You should destroy this information once it is no longer reasonably necessary for the purpose of contact tracing. 23.01.2022 PASSWORD SECURITY: Creating strong passwords should be the number one priority in keeping your online world safe. Having weak passwords could result in stolen identities, loss of data, and even damage to your reputation. The below tips from our partner KnowBe4 are a good reminder to improve your password safety practices: - Improve the strength of your passwords. Strong passwords are usually made up of at least eight characters. They should contain numbers, uppercase and lowe...rcase letters, as well as special characters. - Use passphrases. Recently, security standards strongly recommend using a passphrase rather than a single word. - Never use personal or obvious information in your passwords. - Never use the same password for multiple accounts. If cybercriminals steal your password from one account and you’re using that password on other accounts, then you’ve given them the key to all of the accounts where you’ve used the same password. - Use a password manager to create, store, and sync complex passwords across multiple devices. Most importantly, if there is one available, always follow your organisation’s password policy.
