11.01.2022 It’s NAIDOC week!!! :) This year’s focus is Always Was, Always Will Be. From the NAIDOC website: ... Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. We are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. We built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Our adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming we transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our coastal Nations watched and interacted with at least 36 contacts made by Europeans prior to 1770. Many of them resulting in the charting of the northern, western and southern coastlines of our lands and our waters. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be. Check out more on the NAIDOC website and find out about events happening around you. :)
09.01.2022 What Can Love Hope for? Questions for Faith Seeking Understanding. A book for all who preach and want an informed faith. It raises what I see as crucial issues ...at the heart of Christian faith. I contemplated calling it, Grit in My Shoe, because it confronts critical issues, but it also seeks to highlight positive aspects. Its questions include: Was Jesus an exception in the life of God? Did the Cross change God's mind? Will God stop loving? Why do people tell lies for God? Does the Bible tell it all on Marriage and Sexuality? This is the book I needed to write after 50 years of doing New Testament research. Published by Cascade Books/Wipf & Stock. USD 16 on line and AUD 26 on line - Kindle ca 12. See more

08.01.2022 Pat Anderson AO has a message for all Australians this NAIDOC Week. The Uluru Statement was issued to you, the Australian people, as a gift from First Nations.... 03.01.2022 Practising Christians in our major parties have abandoned the parable of the Good Samaritan, writes Jones. Once we dehumanise others, either systematically or randomly, rendering them nameless, faceless, without any identity we inflict psychic damage on ourselves.
03.01.2022 T'was a week before Christmas, And all through the town, People wore masks, That covered their frown. The frown had begun... Way back in the Spring, When a global pandemic Changed everything. They called it corona, But unlike the beer, It didn’t bring good times, It didn’t bring cheer. Airplanes were grounded, Travel was banned. Borders were closed Across air, sea and land. As the world entered lockdown To flatten the curve, The economy halted, And folks lost their nerve. From March to July We rode the first wave, People stayed home, They tried to behave. When summer emerged The lockdown was lifted. But away from caution, Many folks drifted. Now it’s December And cases are spiking, Wave two has arrived, Much to our disliking. It’s true that this year Has had sadness a plenty, We’ll never forget The year 2020. And just ‘round the corner - The holiday season, But why be merry? Is there even one reason? To decorate the house And put up the tree, Who will see it, No one but me. But outside my window The rain gently falls, And I think to myself, Let’s deck the halls! So, I gather the ribbon, The garland and bows, As I play those old carols, My happiness grows. Christmas is not cancelled And neither is hope. If we lean on each other, I know we can cope See more
