25.01.2022 As a Great Niece of Teddy Sheean I am so blown away by the amazing comments I am seeing everywhere regarding today’s news. Thank you all!!
23.01.2022 At 7:10pm on 18 August 1966, the Battle of Long Tan was over. For three and a half hours, the 108 young boys and men from Delta Company, 6th Royal Australian Re...giment, including their three man team of Forward Artillery Observers from 161 Battery, 16 Field Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery, had fought off over 2,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong in the Rubber Plantation at Long Tan. Sadly, 17 young boys from Delta Company and one young Trooper from 1APC Squadron lost their lives, along with at least 245 Vietnamese. 24 members of D Company were also wounded. Remembering all those who served, suffered and died in the Vietnam War. Lest We Forget. The song in this video is titled 'In Remembrance' by Caitlin Yeo from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan. Jared was qualified as a commander and driver of the Protected Mobility Vehicle, an Assault Pioneer and a Sniper. This was his third deployment to the Middle East. 16.01.2022 We are greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Bob Semple OAM BEM. One of the last Rats of Tobruk, Bob was a true gentleman and a much loved visitor to the M...emorial. He shared his remarkable story ahead of Anzac Day 2018 and spoke at the National Ceremony. I’ve sat there many times, and the Stukas would fly in and roll over, he said at the time. We’d say, ‘Well, Peter, this looks like it,’ or Bill and the three of us would be sitting there, and each one of us would put our hands up, and we’d hold each other’s hands Things like that, they’re just natural reactions. You do it because you’d say, well, if we go, we may as well go together There was a bond of friendship and mateship money couldn’t buy... [And] to shed a tear is not a disgrace in my book. Bob would have turned 100 in May. Always kind, generous and humble, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Lest We Forget. https://www.awm.gov.au/articles/blog/bob-semple Photo credit: Leigh Henningham
15.01.2022 Joshua Dyer (aged 14) was tasked at school to write a poem for Remembrance Day. An hour later (without any help) he produced this. One Thousand Men Are Walking ...One thousand men are walking Walking side by side Singing songs from home The spirit as their guide they walk toward the light milord they walk towards the sun they smoke and laugh and smile together no foes to outrun these men live on forever in the hearts of those they saved a nation truly grateful for the path of peace they paved they march as friends and comrades but they do not march for war step closer to salvation a tranquil steady corps the meadows lit with golden beams a beacon for the brave the emerald grass untrampled a reward for what they gave they dream of those they left behind and know they dream of them forever in those poppy fields there walks one thousand men Joshua Dyer 2019 (aged 14) Goes to show that the young can still surprise us. Lest we forget This has got to be shared. An awesome poem from a 14 year old boy.
