25.01.2022 Thanks for the great play Eildon Croquet Club and Ipswich Croquet Club! We enjoyed hosting you for the pennants matches yesterday. Our commendations to Ipswich in particular as new entrants to the pennants series this year - your team played with great skill! And thankfully you missed the dramatic thunderous rain to close out the final matches between us and Eildon!

25.01.2022 Revised version of the Quadway hoops diagram I prepared yesterday. REVISIONS -- I've corrected the measurements, added a croquet ball for reference, and guidance about how high the carrots should be when setting the hoops. Also made design adjustments and bumped up image resolution quite a bit. Might look nice as a poster printed your clubhouse!

24.01.2022 Sunrise snapshots. Well -- just after the sun came up anyhow! Lawns are getting a nice watering.

24.01.2022 Talented artist Grant Windle Fine Art brings Merthyr Croquet Club to life in stunning beauty with his 16x20 oil on canvas! This along with rest in his "Sundays at New Farm Park" exhibition (and many other works) are available for purchase. Great work Grant!

24.01.2022 Let's get QUADRENNIAL!! Happy "Leap Day" Feb 29 2020! I've seeded a youtube playlist with some "leaping" related croquet videos in honour of the jumping nature of today. Suggest any others please! ... https://www.youtube.com/playlist

22.01.2022 Janelle pulls out a long jump with aplomb under the watchful eyes of the referee and a traffic jam at hoop 10 to much celebration in the BNR Golf Doubles 2019. Her accomplishments were awarded "Jump of the day" for the tournament. Well played Merthyr!

21.01.2022 Not entirely satisfied with the instruction-set that came with our new Quadway Hoops. We've prepared a diagram on how to read and change them. A handy reference, share with club members so everyone can verify the current hoop setting while they're out on the lawn!

21.01.2022 Merthyr Croquet Club logo in a vector image format - nice and crisp!

21.01.2022 Some Merthyr members visited our neighbours at Windsor Croquet Club with great many other friends from around the region for a day of friendship on Brisbane's Ekka Wednesday public holiday. We were well fed throughout the day and played gateball and alternative croquet games (helter-skelter, Aussie croquet, ring-the-bell) in the morning followed by some casual golf and association matches to close out the day. Thanks for hosting a wonderful event Cynthia Tacey and all of her support crew at Windsor!

17.01.2022 Hoops set! We're keeping fit before pennants finishes by playing a few intra-club competition golf matches this morning! Association and social golf play was also on the agenda. Come by and join us for a game sometime!

16.01.2022 Merthyr hosted the 3rd annual Councillors' Challenge Cup today! We played 4 doubles matches (1-hr timed) which paired up a club member with representatives from the local wards. Congratulations to Windsor Croquet Club and Cr David McLachlan's team who won the day with a 3-1 victory. Always a note of thanks to our club patron, Vicki Howard and her team for their great support and excellent play today. We'll bring home the shield next year!... We closed out the festivities with a sausage sizzle and a celebratory toast to absent friends and a special note of remembrance for Ron Sinclair who's initiative brought our club this event. May we celebrate many more years of friendship together.

16.01.2022 Merthyr visited Graceville Croquet Club this Sunday for our BNR Pennants series game. Congrats to Shiva Esh who played in her 2nd competitive game and a note of thanks to her partner Ali who came out to support her - you'll see him on the competition lawns soon! Merthyr is continuing to develop some excellent talent with our sights on continued growth for the sport. The pennants match came out a tie, 3 games to each club and went to a tally of the hoops for and against i...n each game. Which means... Congrats to Graceville who came out on top with 8 hoops - we'll see you next year! Good play to all who participated! As always, you can follow the series here: https://croquetscores.com/2019/gc/belgian-open

16.01.2022 Merthyr brought home the win in our club pennants match against McIlwraith! Special mentions to Adrian and David B on their good technique today. 15.01.2022 It was a celebration as we welcomed Vicki as our newest member to the club this morning! A 'formal' induction ceremony was led by David introducing our new members' package replete with ... a welcome letter, club name tag, pin, keys, CAQ code of conduct, and a copy of 'Through the Hoops' by Greg Bury to start her training off right. We've had a big pick-up in interest of locals and visitors lately - make your face one of them and come and join the fun with us sometime!

14.01.2022 And that's a wrap! Merthyr has finished our season for the Brisbane Metropolitan Golf Pennants 2019! We had a great, but very blustery day yesterday with the wind out in full force. We tied on games with Windsor Croquet Club and lost by one hoop. We performed better against Stephens Croquet Club winning on games 4-2! (+6 hoops). As it stands, Merthyr is 5th of 10 clubs for the series, but there are a few more club matches still to be played in the coming weeks. We'll h...ave another wrap up post about the series still, but wanted to take a moment to thank all of the club members and public who came and supported the team over the year. Your presence is always noticed and appreciated by us all! Follow the scores: https://croquetscores.com/2019/gc/belgian-open/summary Curious? Come join the fun and play with us next year!

13.01.2022 And we're off! Merthyr played its first Brisbane Pennants match at East Brisbane Croquet Club this morning. We put up a good fighting spirit, but it didn't come through on the hoop count. Special note to David Drake for bringing us our sole win today! Congratulations to the winners with thanks to the club and its patrons for a well-run and well-catered morning tea! Thanks to Geraldine for refereeing the matches. We're back in action May 12 at McIlwraith Croquet Club - wat...ch this space! 10.01.2022 Beautiful weather for play on Thursday evening this week. With Winter approaching in Brisbane, the cool air on a Saturday morning is much appreciated. If you're out and about New Farm Park tomorrow morning come and say hello! We've had a great pickup in activity at the club lately with lots of our recent outreach and maintenance work starting to bear fruit. We'd love for you for you to come and join us for a game or to host your event.

10.01.2022 Lawn prep complete as we swung the hoops around on both lawns this morning to avoid the rabbit-runs developing after lots of heavy play! David celebrates the setting of the final peg on lawn 2 in the gallery below. We're looking forward to hosting our matches pennants with Ipswich Croquet Club and Eildon Croquet Club next weekend! Also - many players were prepping for the Brisbane North Doubles Golf Event held tomorrow at Windsor Croquet Club. Good luck to all players! Cl...ub Captain Greg kicked-off his Saturday 9am introduction to Association Croquet lessons this morning running for the next few weeks - come and join us - public welcome! And finally.. David D and Bob took good advantage of our freshly-set hoops and played the inaugural match of our intra-club golf championship for 2019. Bob took it in the end with steady, consistent good play, 6-2. The drone took flight and snapped a few of of the action from way up. Always lots of fun people and activities about in New Farm Park!

10.01.2022 Off and away this morning as our intra-club golf competition block was introduced for the 2019 year! Lasting 6 months - we'll hear about the results towards the end of the year! 08.01.2022 Hail 2020! Happy New Year from all of us at Merthyr Croquet Club! We're looking forward to a banner year of many exciting projects, challenges and fun ahead for the Croquet community and our club. Here's a few things we're looking forward to: ... - Your participation and enjoyment! (Make 2020 'your year' to start something new!) - We've ordered all new lawn equipment and carts. (Quadway hoops here we come!) - New kitchen and BBQ sundries (In an environmental effort to remove single-use plastics from our supplies, and discourage guests from bringing them!) - Perhaps the most drastic upgrade will be a new shade awning to be installed at the front of the clubhouse. - Inaugural "New Farm Cup" (a major event for Corporate/Public Community participation) to be organized for Aug/Sept. - A club members' spectacular wedding ceremony to be held here in March! And so much more.. See you on the lawns! (Photo from the MCC Christmas Party)

05.01.2022 A montage of Team Merthyr's participation in Brisbane Metropolitan Pennants 2019. Our series was 9 matches played from April to August 2019. We played at 4 other clubs: East Brisbane, McIlwraith, Graceville, and Toombul in addition to hosting 4 clubs over 2 days on our grounds. Congratulations to another great year team! 03.01.2022 Merthyr Jumps 2019! *Crack!* *Bang~* We're at it again with another year's video recap of golf jump shots. Don't let a ball in the hoop crush your dreams - just get over it! A few keen private party guests, many Merthyr members, a few visiting members from other clubs, and National Coordinator of Coaching Greg Bury makes a few dazzling appearances in this year's montage. ... As usual, some successes (some exceptional!), many great attempts but most importantly support and encouragement from team mates, club mates and the opposition.

03.01.2022 Thank you Vicki! We appreciate your patronage!

02.01.2022 Our golf croquet pennants team was at it again this Sunday with two matches played at Toombul Croquet Club. Thanks for hosting us, and thanks to Deidre and Gordon Giles at Wynnum Croquet Club for giving their time to referee the matches! We drew on games with Wynnum and lost on hoop count -5, but picked it up in our match against Toombul winning on games 4-2! For the penultimate time, you can follow the series here: https://croquetscores.com/2019/gc/belgian-open/summary... Merthyr plays its final pennants matches in August 11th on our home turf. Looking forward to having you Windsor Croquet Club and Stephens Croquet Club, bring your best game!

02.01.2022 Pennant yes or no? Watching pennant games and the subsequent effects it has on some members makes me wonder if it needs an overhaul. Something to make new memb...ers want to play and good players be rewarded. I really dont know if Pennant is meant for the lower handicaps or the higher handicaps. They both seem to suffer if the format requires them to play each other. How is your team chosen, is it selected to win or to give experience to those players who havent played competitively? What is Pennant all about? Some clubs play their reasonably good players at the beginning, only needing to qualify all the team so that they can bring in the big guns for the final. Ive seen pressure put on inexperienced players so that the club will have more that one team only to have those inexperienced players thrashed and totally lose any inclination they may have had to play competitively. Pennant formats can change year to year and differ from region to region. Some clubs have no difficulty getting their teams together and really enjoy the experience...Maybe they have the format that works! What is your experience with Pennant? Good, bad or indifferent? #Croquet Blogger See more

01.01.2022 Although our club may be closed to the public for a while. There are still many ways you can enjoy croquet in isolation! Maybe take some time to learn the rules for 9-Wicket Croquet??

01.01.2022 Yellow from the boundary takes care of a jawed blue with style and a great leave - all in slow motion! Excellent shot David B - well played.
