16.01.2022 Regional Development Victoria Project Bulletin - Vibe Hotel Marysville

15.01.2022 2015 earmarks 30 years of practice for METIER3 and to commemorate the milestone we will be posting a year by year snapshot of the last 30 years. The year 2003. METIER3 were commissioned by the University of Melbourne to prepare a design development brief for a new building for the Faculty of Economics and Commerce. Two key aspirations of the project were to challenge all traditional paradigms of conceiving and planning an educational institution, and to present a responsible ...and sensitive solution to environmental issues. The Economics and Commerce building, also known as The Spot, commenced in 2003 and opened in 2009 and was the first in Victoria of this scale (over 20,000sqm) to be awarded the 5 Star Green Star Education Pilot rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). METIER3 were also appointed to design a new 4 bedroom residence in Illawarra Crescent, Hawthorn. This project was designed to maximise natural light infiltration to the interior spaces, and to integrate the element of water into the project. The main living spaces of the house are wrapped around a narrow swimming pool, while large full height windows ensure maximum daylight exposure and integration with the outdoor space. Additional skylight windows along the length of the dining area further enables natural light to filter through into the interior. 2003 saw METIER3 deliver two multi-storey ski lodges in the alpine resort village of Mt Buller. The project was designed to sit subtly within the existing natural landscape whilst maximising each buildings exposure to the spectacular alpine views. Whilst similar in size and amenity each lodge affords its own individual identity, avoiding the appearance of a single monolithic form. The upper portions of the lodges are encased in natural timber, whilst the lower portions are encased in natural stone. Large, full height windows form a strong axis to each building and orient views to the North-West and South-East. See more
