25.01.2022 We love to celebrate birthdays at Me Time fitness because it often involves a session followed by coffee. Today we went all out and included the pastries

23.01.2022 Once again exercise proves to be medicine. Don't wait to start because it is even more powerful as a preventative. https://www.abc.net.au//study-shows-exercise-help/12867650

22.01.2022 Looking for new recruits. Children are to be aged between 6-12 months. Unfortunately it is not promised to improve your child's sleep https://www.uq.edu.au//australian-first-sleep-study-childr

21.01.2022 Sarcopenia is described as the deterioration of skeletal muscle mass with age and can begin around 40 years. The progression of sarcopenia is closely associated with an enhanced risk of falls and fractures, metabolic dysfunction, cardiac and respiratory disease development and early mortality. Resistance training is the single most effective countermeasure for age-related sarcopenia. Protein consumption is also critical for skeletal muscle growth and maintenance but is most e...ffective when combined with exercise. Research is showing that our protein requirements are higher as we age (>=1.0g/kg/day). The benefits to muscle protein synthesis are also improved if the protein consumption is spread over the day and not all in one feeding Source - https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/7/2057/htm

21.01.2022 Part of this year's Brisbane Festival. Your in home version

20.01.2022 This morning’s sunrise and view from our ‘secret’ training spot made it worth getting out of bed in the cold

19.01.2022 Sometimes we have to go outside of our own comfort zone and allow our kids to take risks that others would question. These kids climbed 2 mountains yesterday including Mt Beerwah that starts with a long rock scramble. The 5 year old stunned many others that were questioning their own ability to climb up the steep rocks. They can read our fear and so when my stomach was churning as they took a photo on top I just stayed quiet and let them have their joy in making it. The only casualty of the day was the 5 year olds tights and undies from sliding on the rocks. But never mind they had a good workout the week before on another bushwalk at Mt Barney where we decided that the risks were too great to continue climbing rocks in the wet. #peakbagging #outdoorkids #bushwalk #mtbeerwah #sunshinecoasthinterland

18.01.2022 Most often we see photos of ourselves and point out all the faults. When I first saw this picture from today’s interval session I thought ‘dang look at my VMO muscle’. . Hold onto those positive thoughts before the negative ones come in and take over. PS The light must have just been right and a very good photographer ... @warrenfoster11 See more

18.01.2022 Love this. So many athletes stop all together and feel lost after finishing their professional career. Just keep moving. You never know who is watching and who’s life you are impacting

15.01.2022 Just got a surprise package in the mail from @mtbaust. Thanks for the gifts for my 2nd place in the national masters marathon champs. The race may have been a while ago but the pain of racing for 100k is still fresh.

15.01.2022 What will you pass onto your kids? What did you inherit from your mum and stop blaming your dad for the grey hairs! I had a few 'thank goodness' and 'aha' moments are reading this.

15.01.2022 Another long weekend, another mountain of two

11.01.2022 Young Queenslanders have said they want parents and carers to stand by them to help stop cyberbullying together. Visit qld.gov.au/stopcyberbullying to find out how you can help https://youtu.be/zv-bVuHG2j8

11.01.2022 Transurban Queensland has partnered with Kidsafe Queensland, the experts in child safety, to offer 12-months of free car seat fittings and safety checks. This will provide peace-of-mind and save families $45 for each car seat fitted. Fittings are available at the Logan Hospital, Mater South Brisbane and Kidsafe House in Windsor.

10.01.2022 Balance and boxing. Like muscle, your balance reduces with age. But they both can be trained to reduce this loss. These girls got bang for there buck this morning by working their brains, balance and muscles.

10.01.2022 FRIDAY FUNNY: On a recent work team call we shared the good things we have done during our times in isolation. Many talked about the jobs they had got done around the house. I felt cheated!! My house is no different! What extra 'time'? We do have a garden full of veges but that's after killing many others along the way (well the chickens and possums enjoyed them). But now that the aphids have invaded them it is a race against time. A race I will lose but as we were always told 'a bit of extra protein won't hurt you'.

10.01.2022 For your little shredders. A great new addition to inner Brisbane. One step up from the bitumen pump tracks that been popular in Brisbane lately. Pick your time wisely to visit because I think this will be popular

09.01.2022 FRIDAY FUNNY - Very cool!

09.01.2022 The kids went and checked out the new Ninja Park that opened today. It is located at Guyatt Park in St Lucia. There is a ferry terminal at this park and easy access by bike. Make a trip of it and combine with the ‘newish’ kids playground at UQ. PS. This ninja park is better suited to older kids (ie 12+ years) but I hear there will be another playground open soon in the same park. Maybe for younger kids?

08.01.2022 This week we return to training at Me Time Fitness but it won't feel like normal. One of my longest members moved to the coast and it was sad to see her go. She started training with me when I ran a 'bootcamp' at UQ. She then followed me when I started Me Time Fitness. One of her initial reasons to get back into exercise was to avoid having to take blood pressure medication. She could have taken the easy option and popped a pill but like most things in her life she put her... mind and body to work and 'won'. More recently she was diagnosed with osteoporosis and together we worked on a plan to again avoid medication and following the standard path. So with the right exercise prescription and diet she actually achieved something that is unheard of and that was to build bone after having gone through menopause. Her GP was amazed! I had so few pictures of you but so many memories, including when you come with your pants inside out :) Enjoy your sea change, we will all miss you #exercisephysiology #exerciseismedicine #liftweights #osteoporosis #cometrainwithus See more

05.01.2022 Our surfer looking rock climbing chick. #holidays

04.01.2022 Today I did some strength training with the @mountainbikecoachingbrisbane kids. The trails were wet, so today was for skills and strength. My focus was to teach them the importance of core strength and to show them that you don’t need expensive equipment to strength train. Each exercise I related to the skills they need for riding so that it became relevant to them. #exercisephysiology #strongkids #mountainbikekids

03.01.2022 Please support this important petition that was started by an amazing Women's Health Physiotherapist in Brisbane Lori Forner Pelvic Health Physiotherapy and Podcast. I see many women who have experienced some form of birth trauma and they often say "Why wasn’t I told?. They are left trying to navigate the health system all while trying to care for a newborn. They do not know who to trust or who to even share this private information with because 'no one talks about it' This petition is to include pelvic health physiotherapists in pregnancy and postnatal care.

02.01.2022 travelled by active transport to attend today’s Tone & Strengthen class. When your day job is spent creating travel behaviour change programs this is a big deal! Now to get that bike rack #proudmum #leadbyexample #activetransport #cyclingbne

02.01.2022 Hooray - A junior parkrun for Brisbane. Thank you for putting this together Ashgrove. The safety requirements for junior parkrun are challenging so I can understand why this has taken so long to arrive in Brisbane. Let's support them

01.01.2022 Racing is a family event for us. Now with the new AusCycling combined race licence we can try everything. Most of these amazing photos were by @elementphotovideo #ratscyclingclub #auscycling
