23.01.2022 The various themes for this year’s Mental Health month, week and day are all different but there is a primary message flowing through all of them. As well as ou...r global leaders and governments doing more to tackle the global challenge of mental health problems, the world needs more action at the level of the individual via advocacy and training. Understanding how to talk about mental health and help someone in need is an important skill. Many people feel uncomfortable and unprepared when thinking about starting a conversation with someone they are concerned about. Mental Health First Aid courses teach people the skills to feel confident about what to do when they are concerned that someone they care about may have a mental health problem. Over 800,000 people across Australia have now been trained in Mental Health First Aid and this #MentalHealthWeek we are calling on individuals all over the country to learn the skills, become a Mental Health First Aider and Be One of the Million. Visit http://bit.ly/MHFA-Courses Look out for further posts this week with details on how you can help to spread the message #IamOneoftheMillion #MHW2019

22.01.2022 It can become complicated when our workforce do not feel confident in their abilities to provide support or referral for a colleague who is experiencing mental health problems. Research shows that length of delay in help-seeking is one of the strongest predictors of long term sick leave yet 78% of full-time staff do not seek treatment. Many organisations are now providing Mental Health First Aid as part of their onboarding program. ... My organisation, MHIST, delivers a two-day Mental Health First Aid course at your workplace. The course teaches staff how to provide initial support to colleagues, family & friends who may be developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. This course can give your staff the skills necessary to overcome these challenges and lead to a better connected, more supportive and productive workplace. In 2019 I delivered training to the following organisations that prioritised a mentally healthy workplace: NSW Police; The Department of Industry Innovation & Science; National Measurement Institute; Questacon; National Museum of Australia;, The Commonwealth Ombudsman; Woolworths; Shared Services - ACT Government; Clayton Utz; Accor Hotels; amongst others. Bookings are now open for 2020! More information about the 12 Hour Mental Health First Aid course can be found at mhist.com. For booking enquiries simply reply to this email with your preferred dates. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about this course and any others.

Also welcomed New College residents and Arundel House residents and staff. RMC has let me in 7 years in a row now and each time I learn something new from them. Stay classy #residentialadvisors !!
