25.01.2022 ON THE NEWS 1 BILLION doses of the COVID-19 vaccine delivered by COVAX is a major milestone. Yet, sadly, it has highlighted the vaccine inequity gap more than ever. This gap is downright dangerous, risking more variants across the globe. ... It does not have to be like this. We are asking the Australian Government to commit our fair share of $250m to the COVAX AMC Facility. Full story at: https://ab.co/3KohPnH

The Committee works to promote the rights, safety and success of women across the globe. ... This appointment is very significant for Australia! It ensures Australia can contribute on a global scale to advancing safety and equality for women. Natasha is the first Australian to serve on the Committee in almost thirty years.

21.01.2022 "This is an important act of regional leadership at a time of significant need." - Tim Costello. It's been a big week! Thanks to our friends Eternity News for this piece, great to highlight the work being done to assist our neighbours.

17.01.2022 A little #Throwback today from a year ago when our Campaign Director Matt Darvas had the honour of being a apart of the Pacific Church Leaders Meeting in Suva, Fiji. "This trip was a deeply moving experience for me. To be among our Pacific family, and to witness their spirit of solidarity and ecumenism is remarkable and humbling. ... This is not just how the Church should be, but how humanity should be. I met Deaconesses Tanalesi Makutu and Deaconesses Sama who are at the forefront of theologically equipping Pastors and Churches to challenge harmful attitudes that can lead to violence against women and children [photo 1]. I met brave Papuan Pastors, who through tears, explained the atrocities being committed by the Indonesian military against their young people [photo 2]. And I heard Pastors share how Climate Change is firstly a ‘people issue’, as they must now accompany their people through their own modern day ‘environmental exile’. What a privilege to have been with them for this gathering. At Micah, we are very honoured to partner with the Pacific Conference of Churches Secretariat and to advocate alongside them. I’m looking forward to when we can connect in person again!

12.01.2022 IN GOOD NEWS: COVAX has delivered its billionth dose of COVID-19 vaccine. 144 countries and territories have received the vaccine, and almost all of those are low-middle income countries. This has been the largest and most rapid global vaccine rollout in history. What an incredible display of global partnership ... Micah has helped to lead the End COVID For All campaign in Australia calling for global vaccine equity and Australia's contribution to this effort. Thank you Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance for this video.

12.01.2022 During NAIDOC, Micah recognises that Australia's journey towards justice must start at home. So we want to stand with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters as we mark this week and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme Always Was, Always Will be is in reference to the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to these lands now called Australia.... Our prayer this week, is that we would all take one step closer to truly listen to our First Nations People and would each take responsibility for the path to reconciliation. If you would like some more resources, please visit the website of our friends at Common Grace https://www.commongrace.org.au/naidoc_week_2020 And if you aren't familiar with the history of NAIDOC week, including the legacy of Aboriginal Christian Leader William Cooper, you can read about it there too! #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe See more

09.01.2022 What will Biden as President mean for American’s International standing, for global aid and development and most importantly, for the world’s poor?

09.01.2022 2021 has seen COVID-19 leave an unprecedented mark on our world We acknowledge the devastating effects this pandemic has had. Yes, there have been a total of 276 million cases of COVID-19 across the globe... And 5.3 million deaths, with an additional 150 million people being pushed into extreme poverty. Of the 7.9 billion people in the world, only 3.7 billion have been fully vaccinated. In low income countries, only 3.81% of people are fully vaccinated. The WHO global vaccination targets were set to achieve: 40% of every country's population by the end of 2021, and 70% by mid-2022. But the world is well off track to meet these targets with one week to go. In reflection of the hardship our world faces today, we still find ourselves filled with hope at the world we can see in 2022. We will continue in our best efforts to ensure so! We want to thank you for your support of the #EndCOVIDForAll campaign this year.

07.01.2022 We've seen our government step up to assist our neighbours in the fight against COVID-19. There have been FIVE big announcements recently that show the best of who we are. And now we say 'thank you'. ... Thank you Scott Morrison (ScoMo) Marise Payne Alex Hawke MP #EndCOVIDForAll

07.01.2022 Today is World Toilet Day! COVID-19 has shown us all the importance of sanitation and water. But over 4.2 billion globally still lack access to a safe and sustainable toilet and sanitation. ... And 297,000 children under five are estimated to die each year from diarrhoea as a result of unsafe drinking water, sanitation, and hand hygiene. Today is about taking action to tackle the global sanitation crisis and achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. Everyone must have sustainable sanitation, alongside clean water and hand-washing facilities, to help protect and maintain our health security and stop the spread of deadly infectious diseases. So how does #AustralianAid help with this important development issue? @waterforwomen funded through #AustralianAid supports improved health, gender equality and wellbeing in Asian and Pacific Communities through socially inclusive and sustainable WASH projects. Through partners like World Vision Australia, @waterforwomen has assisted an estimated 2.95 Million people with access toilets and sustainable water. #WorldToiletDay See more

07.01.2022 "Charity begins at home. Aid doesn't work. Australian can't afford it". Ever heard these arguments against Aid? A great piece by Terence Wood from Development Policy Centre on why these arguments are mistaken.

01.01.2022 Happy Friday! We want to let you know something important; Micah has made a brief submission to the public inquiry on the Climate Change Bill. The Climate Change Bill was introduced by Zali Steggall MP this year and has been referred to the House Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy.... The impact of climate change on the world’s poor is an issue Micah has a history of speaking up on. We believe this is an important bill which has a strong alignment with the change we hope to see in our nation and the world. Our submission takes the form of a brief letter, articulating our core beliefs that: ‘An essential precondition of a world free from poverty is a world that has come together to tackle the climate crisis,’ and ‘If Australia wants to see the Pacific as ‘family’, we must heed the call of Pacific people for Australia to step-up on climate action’. Submissions close today at 5pm so there's still time to make your own submission if you'd like to. To find out more information please go to: https://climateactnow.com.au/
