24.01.2022 Last game we covered for the weekend was the ACT Junior Rugby Union v Central West Junior Rugby Union in the U15 trial. I can't tell you who won, or what the score was as I have no idea but safe to say it was a great game, very close score and the lead changed more than once. Our website has all the images from the game, here's a few choice ones. ... Don't forget to Like our page to keep updated for more great Junior action over the season. https://www.mtphoto.com.au//under_15_act_brumbies_v_centr/

24.01.2022 So good catching up with friends you have not seen for years, even better when that friend is the hugely talented Jeremy Marou of Busby Marou fame. The boys put on a terrific concert last night at The Basement in Canberra to a packed house. Never seen them in concert before? Do yourself a favour and get along to a gig near you ASAP, you won't be disappointed. #busbymarou #aussiemusic #mtphoto_au

23.01.2022 All set for our 2nd night shoot of the season with the mighty North Canberra Bears Minor Rugby League Club

23.01.2022 Little something we made up for one of our favorite clients Carrie Mitchell. If you would like something similar for your team, book us in to cover one of your games. For just $350 we concentrate on just your team (in attack and defense) with all images edited and provided in a password protected gallery on our website for free download! Average gallery contains over 500 images with guarantee of every player captured or we come back for free.... Share the cost across the whole team for great action photos for a bargain price.

23.01.2022 Sorry it's taken a bit longer than expected, but our galleries for the 2019 ACT Junior Rugby Union Championships and grand finals are now active. We managed to cover 18 games for at least one half, hopefully we will be able to hire an extra photographer and cover all games if we are asked back next year :) Check out the galleries on our website. You will need to login or create an account to view the photos.... 21.01.2022 This weeks photos start today with the Ginninderra Junior Cricket Club and then the last few teams for the Weston Creek Indians Juniors on Saturday

20.01.2022 Sorry, this will be a pretty wordy post but something I just have to TRY and clear up. Over the last couple of days there have been many many many photos and videos posted of the Orroral Fire in the Namadji National Park south of Canberra which seem to show a massive fire front bearing down on the southern Canberra suburbs. I certainly don't want to take away from the enormity of this fire, or the seriousness of the situation, however, these photos ARE NOT FLAMES LEAPING HUND...REDS OF METERS INTO THE AIR. They are indeed the effect of the sunset showing through the smoke. I am confident in this because (a) I live banks, was home the whole time and obviously kept a very keen eye on the situation, and (b) there are some simple photography rules that can (should) be able to explain it all. The size of the "Flames": Think of the old fishing rule, the closer it is to the camera the bigger it looks. Those "flames" are something like 20km further away from the camera than the building in the centre of the photo and are as big as the mountains! Those mountains are over 1000m high .... think about that and compare the size of the flames. Don't you think with all the media covering the event they would have captured some clearer images of 1000m high flames?? Exposure: In general terms, cameras expose for Highlights or Shadows. Without getting into it too much, you can't have both without some expensive filters etc (that were not used in this photo)basically, expose for the highlights and the shadows will become almost black (see my pic above). Alternatively, expose for the shadows and the highlights will blow out to a white blob with no detail. Look to the right of the screen shot above and you will see the sunset coming into frame. Well actually you will see a large, white, overexposed blob that should be the sunset. The camera is exposing for the smoke, which in turn makes the sunset behind the smoke well exposed making it LOOK like giant flames. This is further confusing when you look at the time lapse video circulating (which is an awesome video) as it makes the "flames" look like they are dancing. The attached photo has three images. One is a screen shot from the Time Lapse video. This is not my photo and is only being shared to demonstrate the point. The same logic applies to all of the photos kicking around. The second one is a zoomed in photo that I took from behind my home in Banks. It is a different angle, but taken around the same time as the video and is more or less the of same area as I have circled in the main photo. The third is a photo exposed for the actual sunset taken with my iPhone. Because it is exposed for the highlights, the smoke, street, mountains etc are all black. All three images were taken on the same day. Hopefully this has helped, if I have just confused you more please let me know :)

20.01.2022 **Photo Deliveries** Well the end of the season for most sports is upon us and we are getting lots of questions regarding the delivery of photos. Trying to fit 5 months’ worth of work in the 9 weeks that we had to do photos was challenging to say the least, and at times we were not sure how we could possibly make it work. We worked hard and have managed to meet our commitment to all our partner clubs to ensure photos got done and no clubs, and more importantly kids, have miss...ed out. Our last 4 photo days will occur over the rest of this week! What this has meant is we have a backlog of photos to be processed and we are working hard at getting them all edited and the proofs sent to the Coaches/Managers prior to printing. We have employed extra staff for this purpose and are working 18hrs a day, 7 days a week to get them done as quickly as possible. Clubs are being editing in the order they were taken, and although we are making deliveries weekly it will be mid late October before the last deliveries will be made. We understand that this is not ideal and everyone is keen to see their photos. We are also extremely grateful for your understanding in what has been, and continues to be, the most chaotic season we have ever experienced! Please feel free to share this post with your team mates.

20.01.2022 Great afternoon last week heading out to Canberra Region Rugby League launch at Raiders HQ to grab some shots for this years comp. We are pretty happy with the final results and while it was a nice change to be photographing the "Grown Ups", we can't wait for the Junior Comp to kick in. Get ready for more frosty mornings on the sidelines :) Bring on season 2021!!... 20.01.2022 And we are off and racing again for season 2021. Very much looking forward to our Photo Day with new Partner Club The Queanbeyan & District Basketball Assoc Inc tomorrow. Photos will be held at Karabar Courts Queanbeyan from 10:00 - 13:00. See you there!

19.01.2022 On Saturday I attended the Braidwood Redbacks Bushfire 7s Tournament to watch one of my sons Corey Thompson and a couple of his Tuggeranong Vikings Junior Rugby Union Club Team mates have a run with the Eastwood Juniors Rugby U16 team. The Viking and Eastwood boys clicked together well and won 4 from 4 games, including the GF. Very challenging conditions for photography with rain (pouring at times) as well as wind but nobody was going to complain!

17.01.2022 Sorry to everyone who has experienced troubles ordering online. We are not sure what the gremlin was but it all seems to be working again now. Please let us know if you are still having troubles and we will try and get it sorted ASAP.

16.01.2022 Had great time last weekend at the Diabetes NSW & ACT DiaBuddies Day. Such a fun event to photograph and I was very tempted to jump in as well

16.01.2022 Great to see the Canberra Vikings go back to back with a great 36 - 26 win over Sydney today at Viking Park.

16.01.2022 Really pleased with how this Coffee Mug turned out for one of our favorite customers Carrie Mitchell. Heaps of new designs for 2020, can't wait to show them all off over the winter season. I'm sure the morning coffee will taste so much better now Carrie :)

16.01.2022 The boys at the ACT Veterans Rugby held their annual Fools Day carnival and I was able to get along to shoot a couple of games. It was my first time meeting the Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove and have to say I was impressed! Such a genuinely nice bloke who took his time going around and meeting the majority of the players and having a word. As usual, the Rugby was played in great spirit and a great time had by all.... A few of the pics from the day in the attachments, head over to out Website to them all. As always, please like our page, share and comment! https://www.mtphoto.com.au/rugby_union/act_veterans_rugby/

16.01.2022 The ACT Vets held their annual match with the crew from the HMAS Canberra last night. Played in the dark (apparently the lights were on) but in great spirit, the boys on both teams fought it out for an eventful 9 all draw :) The best part of it all were the donations to the Heart and Canberra Hospital Foundations and why we are proud to be associated with the Vets. Photos are pretty grainy, but you get that when shooting at 25000 ISO! Hopefully there are some that are OK. Here's a few, check out the rest on our website https://www.mtphoto.com.au/rugby_union/act_veterans_rugby/

15.01.2022 With winter sport season fast approaching. I put together a little composition featuring some of our partner clubs :)

15.01.2022 So cool seeing our Name and Logo on the jerseys of the Junior Queanbeyan ROOS under 13's this year. Did you know MTPhoto has donated over $100,000 back to Junior Sports in the ACT and local area through our partnerships with Junior Clubs in the past 5 years? If your club is not benefiting by partnering with us, maybe it's time to give us a call for your club photos in 2020!

14.01.2022 With no photos getting taken, we thought it might be a bit of fun to put another "find the ball" game out. Rules are simple, put your answer in the comments where you think the ball is. If you get it right, we will message you a copy of the original photo so if you want to share with your friends you can. Its been years since we did one of these, but happy to do a few more if any one wants to have a go

14.01.2022 Getting excited about season 2021 with few clubs already had photos and a few more booked in for the next few weeks. Glad to be easing into it before the mad rush that is winter! We have been taking advantage of the quiet time to start working on some individual templates we will be using this season. All of these can be adapted for different sports, club colours and poses. We still have a few more to make, so let us know which ones you like and why, as well as anything you d...on't like. Any and all feedback helps us to make a better product for you! A special thanks has to go out to my long suffering children who are always happy to "volunteer" to be our models. We still have a couple of spots left for this years winter season but they are filling fast. If you are aware of a club still looking to book a photographer for this year (in the Canberra region), please feel free to share this post and send them our way :)

14.01.2022 Looks very much like its going to be a bit wet tomorrow but photos for Gungahlin United Football Club will be going ahead as scheduled. The good news is we will be moving indoors to make things as comfortable for the players as we can. As we continue to try and fit 4 months of club photos into 10 weeks, we want to thank everyone for their understanding and working with us to ensure all clubs and teams will be able to get photos this year. See you tomorrow :)

13.01.2022 Headed down to Portsea Oval on Saturday to catch the mighty ACT Veterans Rugby take on the youngsters from RMC Rugby with the end result being a (surprising) 9 all draw. All the images are on our website so head over and check them out on the link below where you can grab some free downloads of the game. Don't forget to share, comment and like. If you haven't already liked our page please do so :)... https://www.mtphoto.com.au/rugby_union/act_veterans_rugby/

12.01.2022 GIO Stadium was the venue for some quality Rugby on Saturday night and I don't mean the Brumbies v Lions. The mighty ACT Veterans Rugby one again took on the RANRU Old Salts in a trilling 9 all battle as the curtain raiser to the main game. While it was all good fun (slightly serious?) the donation of $1,500 each to Legacy Canberra and the Canberra Hospital Foundation was amazing! Support like this is what makes me proud to be associated with the Vets ... 12.01.2022 New banner for our Facebook Page featuring some of our partner clubs. After our first attempts at composites last year, we are really looking forward to showing off some new designs and ideas for photos 2021! Once again we are almost booked out for the winter season, and are so grateful for the continued support from all the clubs that choose to keep coming back to us every year. Can't wait to get back into it!

11.01.2022 Whew, finally finished going through all the games from the weekend. Last post for a few days at least My #3 son (as in the youngest) plays U15 for Vikings so i shot a few of the U15 games at the Tuggeranong Vikings Junior Rugby Union Club gala day. Was great to be able to see the boys from our partner clubs Uni-Norths Juniors Rugby Union Club, St Edmund's College Canberra, and Wests Junior Rugby Club as well as Jindabyne Rugby Union Club and the boys from Adelaide Univers...ity Rugby Union Football Club who made it up for the weekend. 11.01.2022 Had an awesome time at the South Tuggeranong Knights Minor Rugby League Football Club Under 6 Carnival on the weekend. 16 games covered and over 7,000 photos taken meant a busy Sunday for me sorting through them all and getting the pic's posted. Galleries are now open on our website where you can view all the photos from the carnival. We have had a few enquiries and yes, we will still do the full galleries as digital downloads for $350! Share the costs across both teams and t...hat is fantastic value!! If you haven't already, please LIKE, SHARE and COMMENT. 10.01.2022 The only thing i like more than shooting big kids sports is shooting little kids sports :) It was a clash of Titans at 1/2 time in the Brumbies v Lions game when the Tuggeranong Vikings Junior Rugby Union Club took on the might of the Gungahlin Eagles Junior Rugby Union Club in an Under 7 Clash. The kids had a great time running around, as did the coaches :)... Here's a few snaps, check out all the images on or website https://www.mtphoto.com.au//under_7s_vikings_v_eagles_gio/

09.01.2022 Rainy miserable Canberra day for the Valley Dragons JRLFC Official team photos. Lucky we have the locker room to stay warm and dry :)

05.01.2022 Seems that we are still having intermittent issues with our on-line ordering when progressing to payment. We have our suppliers working on the problem and hopefully it will be sorted ASAP. Thanks so much for your patience!!

05.01.2022 Great seeing the Vets have a run at the 7's carnival. A few ring-ins that I haven't met before that may or may not be over 35 though :)

05.01.2022 As we are learning to adapt to working within Covid 19 boundaries the feedback we are getting on this years photos is awesome and a huge boost to the teams moral in what has been a very difficult time for us. The new process of moving away from the traditional group Team Photo to one created by merging the individual images has been a huge success. Although we have had a few hiccups as we learn on the run, the overwhelming response has been fantastic. The good news is that we... are generally indoors and 100% Covid compliant as we are not taking photos in groups and everyone is maintaining proper Social Distancing. The main concern seems to have been "What about our Crazy photo, can we still get them" and we are pleased to say yes, the Crazies look as good as ever :) Here's an example of the before and after for a Team and a Crazy photo. We think they look awesome, let us know what you think. Thanks again for everyone's understanding, especially to all those parents who are coming out in the rain to get Photos done. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depends on how you look at it) we are unable to reschedule any clubs due to rain as we are shooting photos everyday right up to the end of September.

04.01.2022 It was a weekend of extremes for me with the ACT Veterans Rugby on the Saturday and the South Tuggeranong Knights Minor Rugby League Football Club taking on the Queanbeyan Junior Blues in the Under 7's on Sunday. As well as being the first game of the season, it was also the first game ever for a couple of the youngsters and great that I could be there to get some pics of the game. Here are a few as a bit of a sneak preview, Mums and Dads of the Knights players the full galle...ry will be on our website Sunday afternoon. See Carrie for the password. Hope you enjoy, please feel free to Like our page and comment and share photos

04.01.2022 Ah the joys of winter sports. Nice brisk -5 set up for the Gungahlin United Football Club photos.

04.01.2022 Great video from the Braidwood 7's.

04.01.2022 Been busy working on a new poster design for the recent ACT Junior Rugby Union finals. Looking pretty cool pretty happy with the design so made one up for my son Corey who played for Tuggeranong Vikings Junior Rugby Union Club against Cooma in the U15D3 final. What do you think?...
