22.01.2022 Looking forward to presenting some new music and performances soon

22.01.2022 Over the last few weeks , the trio (with guest player Bill Stewart ( muted and open French horn) had mixed in a studio way on the other side of Melbourne ( Pakenham) one of the pieces we recorded in 2018. It's called "Breaking the Code" and is from a Jazz Suite called " Solar Flare Jazz Suite". It's very ambient and was inspired by a painting by a friend of mine ,Vikki Nash. Here's a sampler . You will be able to buy it shortly through my website ... ( www.michaelwestlakemusic.com.au ) I am currently making a little film clip to go with it using another painting by Vikki Nash and shots of the individual musicians on a lonely country road outside Ballarat ( called 'Bo Peep' would you believe). It's a fascinating process trying shoot film by yourself where one has decided to film oneself sitting in the middle of the road when over width tractors, inquisitive farmers interrupt and you find out you forgot to press record properly after a take. I love relating music to visual images, even though I'm having to grapple with Premiere Pro only as an occasional user. Anyway , here are some images of the shoot. See more

22.01.2022 The trios first performance for the year will be at Odessa in Creswick next Saturday

21.01.2022 Back into the spring of things!

20.01.2022 guess where we are playing on Wednesday night?

19.01.2022 Video shoot about to be interrupted by cheerful local farmer interested in our progress. Farmer John Fraser: "how's the double bass tuning holding up in the damp?" Denis Toner bass player: "Not bad, not bad. Yourself?" Farmer JF: "Not bad,not bad." www.michaelwestlakemusic.com.au

19.01.2022 Part of the Breaking the Code piece soon to be released

16.01.2022 At last the film clip of 'Breaking the Code' (with Bill Stewart on french horn), the end result of the 'lockdown' filming and editing saga. Hope you enjoy it, spread it around. If you want a high quality audio you can get it at www.michaelwestlakemusic.com.au There is a blog there too talking about the significance of the painting and also the original painting that inspired the piece. Hope you enjoy.

12.01.2022 shooting some more footage for the clip today

08.01.2022 looking forward to playing at the beautiful Lost Ones Basement Bar Wednesday evening

06.01.2022 Pre gig rehearsal... middle section of our version of ‘Fascinatin’ Rhythm... in which we find Songo Afro Cuban groove totally fascinating....

05.01.2022 shooting some more footage for the clip today

03.01.2022 here's some old iphone footage from Backyard Tasters Festival in Ballarat Feb 2017 with the jazz trio ( myself, Michael Evans-Barker, Denis Toner). Surprising amount of bottom end in the recording ( althought there was quite a chunky PA system amplifying us). We hadn't intended to be New Orleans but Michael the drummer took us in that direction. Such is the nature of jazz....:) It's quite remarkable also since at that time of the supposed early summer evening, the temperature dropped dramatically and we were absolutely freezing...proving that music can warm the cockles of your heart..:))

02.01.2022 Always a fun night when we play at the Lost Ones. This is happening next Wednesday night, and we would love to see you there. xx

01.01.2022 Pencil in October 30 for our next gig at the Lost Ones Basement Bar
