23.01.2022 Shopify or WooCommerce + WordPress, which one do you choose? Before you jump in, consider your external factors to see if they lean towards one platform or the other. the systems you currently use if any (e.g. inventory management, POS, accounting etc.) budget... the time you have to set up and maintain plans for the future of your brand what do you need this platform to do (B2C/B2B etc) BUT - always go with the platform you feel most comfortable working with as this will allow you to create the best possible user experience. My thoughts on Shopify SUPER easy to use, they have nailed the user interface on this one, and it's pretty much all set up for you to go and load your products, and there are some beautiful themes, you need to hook up your domain name and go. But, it's not entirely compatible with some older software programs, the template itself needs a few minor tweaks to hit the technical SEO mark, pricing is fixed tier and will cost more to change the overall look of the website if you decided to rebrand etc. If you plan on having a bricks & mortar in the future, it's only compatible with particular POS hardware. And WooCommerce/WordPress Gives you more control over design and is more flexible on pricing, will click right into your WP website if you have one, and has phenomenal analytics. It's pretty much compatible with everything, and it's a chameleon if you decide to change the website later down the track. But it does require you to set it up before you can load and sell products, and it's not as pretty on the user interface as Shopify, which can sometimes make it a little confusing. Both present a really good eComm solution so always go back to your whys and always do you - not all shops are the same Happy Monday everyone See more

18.01.2022 Hi there Instagram. It’s been a while. If we haven’t met, my name’s Michelle. I love spaghetti, bad dad jokes and anything that came out of Seattle in the ’90s. I also build websites for people that want to step out of the ordinary and into something a little bit extra. I’ve also been MIA and on a bit of a journey. Back in June, I took a packed lunch, and a whole heap of Uber Eats vouchers, and I set off to see if I could get everything where it needed to be to scale my bus...iness. And hey, I kicked some goals and made some incredible things, but I died in the process, lost my way a bit and crashed and burnt. Even though I made some things happen, and the process was good, I just couldn’t get it to work. Why? Because I didn’t honour anything that I needed to get me through all of the things. And I’m a little bit stubborn. Determined stubborn. The writing was on the wall from the get-go, but for me to genuinely understand something, I have to experience it. Plus, my biggest flaw is that I don’t know when to stop - with anything. It was comical what the universe was throwing at me to slow it all down. And there was no room for all of the background noise. And I was fighting the quirk. And it’s okay, I’m not beating myself, anyone or anything up, I 110% own all of it, and a lot of good things happened too. Hindsight can be a very beautiful and fucked up thing. So here we go peeps, I’m back and version 3.0 is on its way. My biz officially turned 2 the other week I’m very excited to say that I’m embracing everything that I thought was wrong with me for so long and it’s conjuring up some pretty unique ideas and a whole new direction. Plus, I know exactly how not to get there. Buckle in #lifeslittlelessons #comebackqueen

15.01.2022 Hey guys, with so many crazy things going on, just wanted to take a few seconds out to say we can do this, webe gotta to work together, get behind each other and be kind. Its the only way. Now more so than ever. And its okay, we can do this from our lounge rooms. So with so many peeps going into marketing/maintenance mode, and a lot of people turning to online shopping etc., here are my top 5 things you can do now (for free) to give your website life a bit of a boost.... 1 If you havent done so, hook up your website to Google Analytics and Google Search Console set up and linked to your website. Youll learn a lot about your customers through this data. 2 Update or remove any outdated content. If you have Google Analytics, check out your highest viewed pages and make sure the content on these pages is up to date. Remove any pages or products that arent relevant or dont exist anymore. This includes your contact details and opening hours. 3 Update your My Google Business with any new hours and info from tip number 2. If youre an eCommerce store, now is the time to load all of your products to this listing. 4 Shipping - getting the exact measurements and weights for your items will ensure that customers are getting the best rate on freight costs. Flat fee or free if you can. 5 Leverage the fold. That is when people land on your website, before they scroll, they need to see who you are, what you do and have at least 2 call to actions visible so they can choose their own adventure (buy now, read more, subscribe, contact us etc.) Bonus tip - we naturally view things left to right, so having your call to actions on the right hand side of the page is always a handy thing. I hope this helps, if you need a hand with anything or have any questions, please shout out, Im here to help. Keep well everyone xx : @moyo.studio #supportlocal #supportsmallbusiness #perthsmallbusiness See more

11.01.2022 Hey guys! Hope you're having a fab day!! Just going to throw this out there. I love recommending products, services and places I love and Im sure you do too! If you want to extra help them out when responding to Facebook recommendations, link their website or even the specific page (if they have one) to your recommendation instead of their Facebook page. You'd be removing the middle man, and also helping them in the background by potentially bringing in extra traffic to their site #seotips #recommendations

09.01.2022 2020 saw me seeing a lot of things for what they were, and a lot of things for what they weren’t. But it wasn’t the proverbial lead balloon it made itself out to be, it was just.... different. It was raw and honest. A little hairy at times filled with pockets of shiny things and moments, there’s bits I don’t even remember Some key findings... fire will always bring people together toilet paper is actually a thing 2 hrs and 46 mins is the most time a toddler has for any one thing always better to respond than react investing in your business and yourself is worth it freedom isn’t free you will always find awesome people in the stationery cupboard And a whole heap of personal growth + real lessons learnt - happiness is self-created the world doesn’t owe you a thing to be intentional you choose to let shit happen to you always trust your gut - it never lies you cannot grow or scale your business alone self-care isn’t a bubble bath. It’s protecting your health + your energy. if it’s not an instant fuck yes, then it’s hell no you can do all of these things and still be a nice person A massive thank you to everyone that has worked with me for trusting me with your business, for your patience and for pushing me to slow it down so I can level up and make what I can give the world so much better. A mad merry shout out to my mentors + confidantes for their raw honesty, wisdom and belief in me through the good, the bad and the ugly. To you for being on this journey with me. It’s always community over competition. And I wish you nothing but the best for 2021. And to me for not giving up. Onwards & upwards - don't look back See more

09.01.2022 Web hosting. Most of you have this sussed, but I do get asked about it. So here is some fun info for you! First up, youve got about 5 seconds to load before people abandon your site. 40% of the people that jump ship wont return. You can check out some info (and also your web site speed at bitcatcha.com - you generally want something in the A+ range). Secondly, if youre an Aussie biz, with an Aussie targeted audience - you want an Aussie server. Location matters. ... Thirdly, most suppliers will also claim 99.9% uptime, so this should be a given. Things you want in your hosting plan: Railgun/CDN - this means your website will load over a local server no matter where you are in the world. cPanel access - basically because FTP / Plesk Desk is shite and hard to manage if you dont know how (and even if you do) Free SSL for the static websites, Im sorry WooCommerce peeps, you need something a little stronger, but its well worth the $$. What this? Storage/webspace - this is your total file limit and includes things like images, movies, scripts, databases/customer info etc. CPU - this is the number/percentage of processors allocated to processing your website. The higher the number, the more info it can load before it loses performance Shared memory/RAM - this is a temporary space where all your changes go before you save. How do you pick the right plan? Ignore the titles. If you have a static site, a few pages/blogs and a handful of pics, small media portfolio or a small catalogue of products, a starter type plan will do great guns (usually promo-ed towards bloggers) Photographers, those with more extensive media portfolios & more significant product catalogues - you will generally need more storage and CPU. Its hard to figure out the numbers without knowing the catalogue, but start smaller, you can always upgrade! Anyhoo!! Happy Saturday, if you want to know more, hit me up. :@michellebirch_va See more

09.01.2022 For all my online store people... SIZE DOES MATTER!! When I first saw a picture of Mr Ed here, I thought he was a lovely little ornament I could put on my bookshelf. I wasnt expecting him to be a life-sized model coming in at 2m H x 2.29m L, like his brushed gold cousin here!! It would have been pretty funny having this guy delivered It seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes product pics (no matter how good they are) can be deceiving when it comes to size/fit..., so when creating your product pages, its always a good idea to include: Measurements, dimensions, weight etc. Correct colours, fabrics, materials etc. Any detail you can provide, things like pattern types or handmade discrepancies etc. BONUS TIP - using pictures of your product in action is really hot right now! More is more, and the benefits of having these details outweigh the negatives. You can offer accurate and the best shipping rate to your customers, it reduces confusion when items arrive. It also reduces costs involved with having to refund/return items... and I'm sure we've all read a story or two about things that arrive in the post not as expected! Anyhoo, some food for thought, hope youre all having a fab day! @ Perth, Western Australia https://www.mbva.com.au/the-best-way-to-avoid-online-purch/

06.01.2022 Always smush your website pics! According to the HTTP Archive (Aug 2019), images are the most popular resource type on the web. So using excellent high-resolution photos is always an upside to your UX. However, large file sizes can drastically decrease your web performance, which also impacts on your UX and conversion rate; on average, you have about 15 seconds to impress before they move on.... and google doesn't appear to be a fan either Luckily we can... balance all of this by optimising our web pics. These are my tips and tricks for image optimisation. Choose the right file format. JPG is excellent for photos or images with loads of colour and have a smaller file size. PNG supports transparency and is excellent for graphic pictures with lines and text, graphs, logos and screenshots. Resize your images to fit your website grid. If your section width is 1100px, resize your image width to 1100px (obvious one, I know). You can use programs like Paint on MS, Preview on Mac, Photoshop, Canva and there are loads of free apps like Image Size and Desqueeze (Apple) and Photo & Picture Resizer (Android) that you can use on your phone. Don't forget to lock in the perspective so that your images stay in proportion. Compress your pics. After resizing, run your pics through an image compressor. I use tinypng.com as it reduces the image without ruining the quality, but there are other programs like Kraken.io and FileOptimizer. Then you are ready to go! Bonus! If you are using a Wordpress site, another thing that you can add on top of this to help compress your pics is by installing a plugin called Smush. This program will also compress your pics, but I recommend doing this before you upload so that you can control the quality. I hope this helps! If you'd like to know more, do get in touch, I love to geek out and help people with this! Have a great day everyone!! x : @michellebirch_va #websitetips #imageoptimisation #webperformance

04.01.2022 Hiiiiiii!! My names Michelle, but my friends call me Monks, and Im the chief coffee officer and website creator at MBVA (and the person that responds to your comments and messages on these posts!) Today Im celebrating the fact that I've just reached 512 followers! I know that number may seem random to you, but every time I gain a follower I do a little happy dance (think Napolean Dynamite) It honestly blows me away! Each one of ...you is significant to me, and each follower I gain marks more friends joining my Instagram community which I think is pretty unique and worth celebrating! Thank you for following my journey I'm so excited to be sharing my 2020 with you from the beginning. I started this business to help people get the best out of their website and the systems that plug into it and to also make it a working member of your team. And my number 1 goal for 2020 is to try and de-mystify all of the website/SEO stuff, and help make it easy for you to put into place. Fun facts about me, I love being in deep water and I love a good sandwich! I secretly love that Charlie's is just down the road But anyhoo, I look forward to connecting with you more in 2020! If you live in Perth and want to catch up for a coffee sometime, let me know below, and I'll shoot you a DM - I'd love to come out and say hi! Hope that you are having a good day! Bye for now! 03.01.2022 Mondays with my little man Looking back on 2019, mum/boss/FIFO wife and life has had its fair share of ups and downs, there have been massive moments of self-doubts, sleepless nights, a house move, arguments, a couple of trips to ER, countless Uber eats deliveries, a crazy landlord, a trip to Mexico, a beautiful wedding, a couple of health scares, the yukky 'I can't leave my house' moments, backyard wine sessions with some beautiful people, the Monks Mega Mix, a few rea...lly cool courses, 4 collaborations, 14 awesome websites, 3 systems integrations, 27 amazing clients, some really cool graphics, an even cooler network, an incredible hubby, his new spaghetti receipe, some incredible new friends, a lot of lessons learnt and the smiles from this little guy. 02.01.2022 I'm obsessed with #photoshop at the moment. Actually, I'm obsessed with the whole Creative Cloud suite - it's such a powerful tool. I use it in almost everything that I do at the moment. Here is a pic of some "scrapbooking" I did the other week, paying homage to Apple's #thinkdifferent campaign in the '80s. Very basic in terms of what PS can do I know, but I love it all the same, the message and the inspiration these people bring to the world is another very powerful thing. 01.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone! Long-time no see!! Can you believe there are only 10/11 weeks left of this decade? It's crazy how fast this year has gone! We have moved to our new place. Still, a bit to do, but have put loads of stuff in the spare room and shut the door for now. Before I jump into the good stuff, I wanted to let everyone know that going forward my calendar for 2019 is now closed, and I am unable to take on any new projects/clients until mid-January 2020 at this stage. A massive shout out and thank you to everyone and to my lovely clients too for all of your support this year! It means the world to me. Mad loves Have an awesome day everyone! x
