19.01.2022 It’s Occupational Therapy Week! #thisIsOT Occupational therapy is a client-centred health profession concerned with promoting health and well being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this outcome by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the occupations they want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the environment to better support their occupational engagement. 15.01.2022 I don’t get angry (publicly) very often, but this is making my blood boil. In early 2021, the NDIA are planning to introduce Independent Assessments for both access requests and during plan reviews.... they are marketing this as free because everyone loves to not have to pay for things. However, the way it stands at the moment it seems that the Independent Assessor will replace the input your health professionals give when applying for the NDIS.... That means that someone paid by the NDIA, will assess your disability in 1-4hours (by video call if necessary) by using only the standard assessments they are allowed to use. In under 4hrs they’re going to need to understand you, the relevant aspects of your condition (good luck) and the functional impact that has on you. It’s taken me 12 years to understand the general manifestations of the hypermobility conditions, and I’m still learning... I am fearful of what this means for people with EDS/HSD, POTS, LDS, CCI... Have a watch of the video, and comment your thoughts on the original post.... add your voice to this.... maybe if they’re really about participants as they claim to be, they might read the comments and hear the voices of those living with disability.
