25.01.2022 Some new faces from the farm: 2020 #MVL Foal Crop

25.01.2022 MVL foaled (consigned at MM Adelaide Sale; sale topper) VICTORIA QUAY (Dundeel x Swan River) saluted on Derby Day 2020: winning the $300,000 Gr 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) with the in form Jamie Kah in the saddle. Despite Victoria Quay winning the traditional lead-in race to the VRC Oaks, the filly won't be in action in the fillies classic on Thursday. Her trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy decided they wouldn't pay up for the VRC Oaks as they thought she was too immature for the 2500 metre race. A HUGE congratulations to Danny Molloy; his first Flemington Group winner in 20 years !!!!!!!!!!! Another winner for the farm today was SKINS (Sepoy x Ininthree, by Generous) who fleeced his rivals by a margin of almost 3 lengths in a B70 Hcp (1110m). He is pictured here at the farm as a yearling.

24.01.2022 Forget how beautiful the farm looks now the drought has broken; the row of paulownia trees has been a spectacle in itself this week. Alas we are currently bracing ourselves against 120km/hr winds so not entirely sure what the pink flowers will look like come morning (can hazard a guess ....) but as you can see, they sure did look glorious yesterday morning. https://vimeo.com/461729868

23.01.2022 Change is afoot - but in name alone. Middlebrook Valley Lodge has a proud tradition of rearing and consigning quality thoroughbreds. This continues albeit under the exciting news of a new name and with new owners; but with every staff member and manager - Verna Metcalfe - remaining exactly the same. Nothing will change for horses, clients or staff except the name of the farm, the inclusion of all important new branding plus some exciting new farm developments. So please bear with us during this transfer period - and we encourage you to look forward to the official media release from the new owners in coming weeks. Please be reassured that tradition, quality, reputation - and all our people - stay the same no matter what. It's an exciting time :-)

21.01.2022 13 of the 15 yearlings offered today [Day 2 of the Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale] found new homes with top price of $42,000 secured for LOT 260 the filly by Hellbent x Miss Spirituality purchased by Tim Martin Racing for $42,000. Photos Katrina Partridge Photography

20.01.2022 The Inglis 2021 Australian Weanling Sale will kick off shortly at #Riverside. Despite the rain the babies have paraded their little shoes off over the past couple of days ensuring they - and the staff - have slept well every night. Best of luck to all the owners who will be hoping for some good results.

18.01.2022 15 yearlings to go under the hammer at Inglis HTBA May Yearling Sale today. Some notable updates for a couple of them: LOT 203 Capitalist x Kincara Miss [pictured]: by a First Season Sire who has taken all before him including producing Gr 1 Champagne S. winner CAPTIVANT. Capitalist's service fee has just been increased to $99,000 (incl GST). One can only say "2021 is the time to buy one of his yearlings!". This filly is also out of a stakes placed mare. X-rays/scope in repos...itory. Well worth your inspection. LOT 214 Exosphere x Lady Kookachoo - Exosphere sired EXOBOOM - the winner of the $200,000 Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) last Saturday. LOT 226 Vancouver x Leviosa - Vancouver is doing the job in both Hemispheres; siring a Gr 3 winner in America on Saturday. This filly is out of a stakes placed mare who was the winner of 6 (3 in succession at 2).

18.01.2022 Artful Whisper (Machiavellian x Speak Softly To Me, by Ogygian) has produced 4 winners the most notable being WHISPERING BROOK - a 10 time winner (5 at 2) including 5 at Group level, 2 Listed wins, a Gr 1 placing and earnings of $1,183,150. (She was then offered at the 2019 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale where she was knocked down for $1.1m to Katsumi Yoshida). Following her 2017 colt by Hinchinbrook (now a winner) - Artful Whisper missed to Capitalist in 2018 and Your Song in... 2019. She had become what is known as a troublesome breeder. It can be difficult for owners to remain positive at this point: all they receive are never-ending bills and they have no resultant foals to assist them in recouping their costs; the love of the game and a dose of future optimism is quite simply all that gets people through. But there can be a golden lottery ticket. A few days ago Artful Whisper foaled a stunning filly by Russian Revolution (image credit Michelle Vincent). This followed the mare receiving a PG Lap (in laymen’s terms - Fallopian tubes being cleaned and cervix repaired). A huge vote of thanks to Dr Angus Atkins and his wonderful team at the Scone Equine Hospital as without his wizardry it’s unlikely that the mare would have produced another foal. See more

13.01.2022 7 yearlings to go under the hammer at Inglis HTBA May Yearling Sale today. Some notable pedigree updates for a couple of them: LOT 31 Exosphere x Vitex: Exosphere sired EXOBOOM - the winner of the $200,000 Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) on Saturday LOT 113 Sooboog x Creating Mischief: Sooboog has sired 8 winners this season - that's more than Extreme Choice, Shalaa and Flying Artie ... LOT 119 Dawn Approach x Dandy Roll: Dawn Approach sired POETIC FLARE - winner of the Gr 1 Newmarket 2,000 Guineas (1m) overnight. LOT 126 Capitalist x Deema [pictured]: Capitalist leads the first season sire table with 15 winners (including the Gr 1 Champagne S. winner CAPTIVANT) and his service fee has just been increased to $99,000. One can only say "2021 is the time to buy one of his yearlings!"

13.01.2022 A timely update for MVL resident mare CAROLYN'S STAR whose 7 year old son Archedemus won yesterday's $1m The Gong (1600m) at Kembla Grange. The 7yo son of Lope de Vega (IRE) advances his record to eight wins, two seconds and one third from 21 starts with earnings of $1,038,730. A half-brother to the Group 3 placed filly Mandylion (Nicconi), Archedemus is the best of four winners from five to race out of the Peintre Celebre mare Carolyn's Star. Carolyn's Star is a grand daughter of the Gr 1 SAJC South Australian Derby winner Mapperley Star (Sir Tristram), herself a sister to Group 1 WRC New Zealand Oaks Stakes winner Royal Heights from the family of the champion Battle Heights. Carolyn's Star missed to Flying Artie in 2018 and foaled a colt by Pride Of Dubai (pictured) on August 29.

10.01.2022 Valuable black type arrived on the pedigree page today for MVL grad VICTORIA QUAY (Dundeel x Swan River) who finished a close 2nd in the SAJC Hill Smith S LR (1800m). Born and raised at MVL then sent to Willaroon in SA to be prepped for the MM Yearling Sale (then consigned by Rushton Park), the filly topped Day One of the 2019 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville when purchased for $250,000 by Tony McEvoy and Suman Hedge Bloodstock. The filly is a half sister to two winners including accomplished SA galloper Beau Rivage and she looks set to make her own mark on her dam's page.

08.01.2022 Tyson ensures the yearling feed run is up to scratch.

07.01.2022 A little treat for Sarah on Tuesday afternoon; Katrina's new puppy came to MVL (first day on the job) ... loads of cuddles to be had :-)

04.01.2022 A relatively tough day at the office on Day 1 of the Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale. Top price was $32,000 for the Exosphere x Vitex filly (purchaser: J Connoly). On a positive note a 100% clearance rate. Onwards to tomorrow.
