25.01.2022 It was great to see so many people getting into the spirit of Halloween Twilight at MHYC this week. Unfortunately the full moon was not accompanied by a howling wind so little in fact that the race had to be abandoned. Congratulations to Stella Polaris (best dressed boat), Jeff Buchanan from Slac ’n Off (best dressed male crew), Celina Rumbelow from Broomstick otherwise known as Tempo (best dressed female crew). The next themed Twilight is on 26 November Pirates of the Middle Harbour.

17.01.2022 Stay tuned Matt Hayes, one of our famous Australian Olympians and great sailor, both inshore and offshore is about return to Australia. He is arriving at his home club MHYC after and epic journey sailing around the word. Matt and crew are expected to arrive around the club about midday on this Saturday on 24th October, Hope we can give him a big MHYC welcome. We are so proud of him and who would not love to be there - especially in these times. Stay tuned and we can let you k...now when he is coming in. Julie Hodder From wife Helen Hayes Saturday is set to be a big day, with my salty sea dog husband due to sail back through Sydney Heads. The good ship Influencer left Sydney on 11 July 2018. I will paste here what one of Matt's oldest friend's Barossa Angus wrote, as I can't say it any better. "If any of you happen to be around Sydney Harbour on Saturday, have a look for a largish yacht that may very well be surrounded by other boats. It’s the return of my great mate, Matt Hayes and his yacht, Influencer, Influencer Sailing Adventures from a circumnavigation of the world. Besides teaching literally 1000’s of people to sail, Matt is an object lesson to us all about not listening to people who tell you what you can’t do. He was told he wasn’t bright enough to go to Uni but that didn’t stop him building one of Australia’s most successful vertically integrated yachting businesses. He was told he didn’t have what it takes to make it at the elite representative end of yachting, so he represented Australia at the Atlanta Olympics in the Soling class. So next time someone tells you can’t do something, find your inner Matt!" Very proud of him and can't wait to see him!

11.01.2022 Welcome home Matt Hayes from your epic journey circumnavigating the globe, sailing 29,000nm and taking 2 1/2 years. A lot of us have been following Matt and his adventures on Facebook, and they had some wonderful times and full of great stories. I spoke to Matt when he came into MHYC and he said if you really wanted to see the world, it should take 5 years - not sure what wife Helen would say about that. Matt has been a MHYC member for 56 years and represented Australia in t...he 1996 Olympics. This is another grand achievement. A little about Matt's sailing History. Matt Hayes grew up on the waterfront at Clontarf. His father, Neil was a well-known Hood sailor. At an early age, Matt formed a sailing school at the family home. The school, Sydney by Sail, is now established at the Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour. It includes a yacht charter business. Matt is one of the world’s top Soling sailors. He nished second in the match racing world titles in 1994, third in the eet World titles the following year, second at Kiel in 1995, and second at Spa in 1996. He represented Australia in the Soling class at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, a feat he aims to repeat in Sydney 2000. He is one of Australia’s top ocean racers, representing Australia as helmsman of Ragamuffin in the 1997 Admiral’s Cup and the Kenwood Cup. Julie Hodder
