17.01.2022 PLEASE SHOW RESPECT TO CREWS Powercor crews are continuing to rebuild parts of the electricity network following this week’s severe windstorms, with power expected to be restored to most customers by this evening. There are currently about 13,000 customers without power in the Powercor network, with just under 11,000 of them within the Kyneton, Woodend, Trentham and Gisborne region. Crews have been mobilised from other regions to support the major restoration efforts, which i...ncludes reconstructing power poles, wires and other infrastructure that was demolished by large trees and branches. Much of the major repair work is being conducted in areas that were unable to be accessed yesterday due to dangerous conditions, large fallen trees and other debris. A Powercor spokesperson said dedicated vegetation teams were needed to cut and remove trees to allow access. "We are still assessing some of the damage in Trentham as we have had difficulties accessing some parts of our network, and are working closely with emergency services in the area," the spokesperson said. "We expect to restore power to the majority of customers by late today, however some customers will still be without power into the weekend. "These customers are likely to be single-premise faults, where service wires have been brought down. "We know our customers are doing it tough in these conditions without power and we want to assure customers that we are doing everything to get power back on as safely and as quickly as possible." The spokesperson said Powercor had had reports some of their crews had been receiving abuse from a small number of customers. "Our lineys are people with families and loved ones who live in the communities they service," they said. "We would ask people to please respect them as they work to restore power. "We will continue updating estimated restoration times at www.powercor.com.au, through our contact centre and providing updates to customers via SMS where we have their details. "We would advise customers to assess their own individual circumstances and determine whether they should seek alternative accommodation arrangements." If people do see a fallen powerline, they should always stay well away from them and report them immediately on 13 24 12. See more

09.01.2022 POWER RESTORATION DELAY Powercor crews have restored power to more than 70,000 homes and businesses following last night’s severe windstorms, however customers are being advised that some areas may not have power back on until late tomorrow evening. Extra crews have been moved to the hardest hit areas around Kyneton, Woodend and Gisborne, while restoration efforts also continue in surrounding regions. There are 20,000 customers currently without power in the Powercor network.... Wind gusts of up to 90km/h and persistent strong winds are continuing to bring down trees and branches, with new faults and outages occurring. The significant storm damage is also creating access issues in some areas, particularly around Trentham and Kyneton. A spokesperson said Powercor was working closely with emergency services to ensure crews were able to safely access some locations. "While our crews are working as safely and as quickly as possible to get power supplies restored, the ongoing difficult conditions and extensive damage to the network means that restoration times will be longer than usual," the spokesperson said. "We do understand how difficult it is to be without power for such a lengthy period, particularly during this weather, and we thank customers for their patience and understanding. "As crews locate and assess the damage, we are continuing to update estimated restoration times on our website, through our contact centre and providing updates to customers via SMS when we have their details. However, there is a likelihood of some outages lasting beyond this evening. "We would advise customers to assess their own individual circumstances and determine whether they should seek alternative accommodation arrangements." See more

02.01.2022 DON'T DRINK TRENTHAM TAP WATER Coliban Water has issued an urgent do not drink tap water to Trentham residents following extreme weather conditions. The water authority and Health Department gave the advice last night stating the water may be unsafe. This advice is precautionary, and has been issued following severe inclement weather impacting access at our Trentham Water Treatment Plant and access to a downstream burst water main that may cause ingress into the distributi...on system, a spokesperson said. We currently have only 10 per cent storage at our Water Treatment Plant and, we are at risk of running out overnight. If this happens, we may be unable to communicate with residents due to potential loss of communication. There is also a burst water main that may cause a loss of pressure in the distribution system. If there is a loss of pressure we cannot guarantee that the water is safe to drink. Boiling water will not remove any potential contaminants that may enter the distribution system if there is pressure loss in the system. The Hepburn Shire Council has a relief centre at the Trentham Mechanics Institute where bottled water is available. This morning the authority said power outages, fallen trees and lack of road access meant that there was potentially only two to three hours of water supply left at Trentham as the Water Treatment Plant had lost power. We are currently unable to access the plant to switch to generator power. We ask Trentham customers to minimise non-essential water use to conserve the water supply, a spokesperson said. There are also a range of other issues across our network that we are managing as a result of extended periods of power outages. "This includes several sewer pump stations that have lost power, which may result in sewerage releasing from the structures and into the environment. Please avoid these areas where possible. If you have a problem with your water or sewer service, or if you want to report a leak or burst, call CW's 24-hour number 1300 363 200. The water authority advised it would continue to update customers throughout the day. If you are concerned that you may have been affected by contaminated water please seek medical advice. Inform your GP of this advisory. See more
