23.01.2022 UNDER 8’s DAY! The Kindy children have had their very first excursion from MIDNK to Barkly Highway State School! What an impressive first excursion it was for our service! We all were excited little bunnies last Friday Morning meeting at 8:10am to get ready to board Mount Isa Coaches for our trip to Barkly. Our Bus ride was.....EPIC! ... We all had set colour coded groups so we could attend safely and we all wore really cool name badges! When we arrived.... there was so much on offer! All the wonderful craft activities got our attention first! Music by the talented BHSS Students performing in the background, jumping castle out on the big grassy oval, coloured hair spray, slinkies & slime, high jump, outdoor bowling and a great Sausage Sizzle! No Under 8’s day is complete without the sirens and lights of our important Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES. (Our Magnets, activity books, stickers, pencils and rulers were awesome!!) Big thanks to BHSS Principle & staff for a great morning! A special mention to Bec from Barkly who always welcomes us and partners with MIDNK to give us fabulous opportunities for our young Learners. Our first trip to ‘Big School’ was a success! A big Thankyou to Mums, Sharon & Yolandi for coming along with us to assist with our excursion, we appreciate your support.x Under 8’s Day theme this year was; Children celebrating outdoor play and learning That we certainly celebrated! We can’t wait for next year!!

19.01.2022 Pre-kindy cooking box Each family gets a turn of packing some ingredients and a recipe into the cooking box for Pre- kindy to cook together So today Freya brought the cooking box in full of some yummy ingredients to cook with and the recipe was choc chip cookies .... Cooking allows the children to make new connections with each other and build relationships. Cooking develops self esteem. Being able to serve food to friends and family that they have prepared is a powerful experience . Keep watching this space . We can not wait to see what Pre Kindy cooks next

11.01.2022 TODAYS COOKING IN PRE KINDY! Today, Corrin and his family brought the cooking box in full of some healthy vegetables & fish fingers to cook and share with our friends. We prepared these vegetables by cutting them up into manageable pieces and talking about them. ... We learned Broccoli is green, and rough to touch, potatoes are white, round and hard. Carrots are orange & they make us see in the dark! Corrin’s mum explained they go out the bush visiting a friend and they always have fresh fish and veggies when they visit there. It’s there FAVOURITE meal. So to replicate this, we used the fish & veggies to incorporate into our cooking box experience this week. On reflection of this experience, the children really enjoyed the crunchy raw veggies, and attempted the cooked ones. The fish fingers were a big hit & we loved eating them. Thank you to Corrin & his family.

08.01.2022 This week in Group Two was all about Trucks The children have shown an interest in trucks so we made our whole week all about them. We had heaps of fun activities set up throughout the week! To kick start the week we had a craft activity set up. We collected bottle lids, can lids and food rappers to fill our garbage trucks. On Tuesday Miss Madi set up a construction tuff tray experience. She used different cereals to create different components on the tray. We used co...rnflakes, coco pops, weetbix, oats and nutrigtain to make roads, dirt and water holesThe children had sooo much fun digging and scooping the food into the trucks before taste testing all the different cereals. On Wednesday we made ooblek (messy mud), we used cornflour, water and cocoa powder to make messy mud for the children to drive the construction trucks in. On Thursday we danced and sang to a fire truck song before the educators used shaving foam and powder paint to make a pretend fire, group two used spray bottles to spray the fire and put it out. The group two educators also created a construction/truck area in our room, we have roads on the ground to drive on, new trucks and pictures of the different trucks and their signage. The children were all extremely happy when they came into the room and seen it. Everyone ran over and started to play together with the trucks. To finish our week off we set up a truck wash in the tuff tray to clean all our trucks ready for us to explore next week! See more
