24.01.2022 Our brigade recently came together to celebrate the service and retirement of one of our longstanding members, Robert Glass. Bob joined the TFS in 1999; since then providing close to 21 years service to the Maydena, Cambridge and Midway Point brigades. Bob was presented with a TFS pin recognising 20 years long service, as well as a Huon pine clock and plaque from the brigade members.... Whilst Bob will no longer be attending fire calls, we have a sneaking suspicion he'll be on our fire trucks again some day in the future... A special thanks also to the Midway Point Tavern for generously providing pizzas for us to enjoy on the night! Bob receiving his 20 year pin from Brigade Chief Daniel; and Bob with some of our brigade Life Members Jim, Chris, and Danny.

24.01.2022 We are honoured and grateful to have hosted Mitch McPherson at our fire station last night, where he gave an empowering speech raising awareness about mental health and suicide, and sharing that it’s OK to not be OK. Members from our brigade, along with members from Orielton Volunteer FIRE Brigade and Dodges Ferry Fire Brigade were in attendance. Mitch spoke about his personal experiences being affected by suicide, about how he founded his organisation SPEAK UP Stay ChatTY, and some of the important work they do throughout Tasmania. Thank you Mitch for taking the time to tell us your story!

22.01.2022 Today is St Florian’s Day, also known as International Firefighters' Day. St Florian is the patron saint of firefighters and today we honour our firefighting families around the world who protect others in their time of need. Members from our brigade are today thinking about one person in particular though, Hobart firefighter Rob Boost - you may have read his story online in the past few months. In February 2016, Rob suffered a traumatic injury whilst working at a wildfire. T...his injury has left him with a need for extensive, ongoing and costly medical treatment, and unfortunately insurance complications leave him now significantly out of pocket. A GoFundMe campaign has been started, and donations are greatly appreciated as Rob continues his medical journey. Every dollar truly does count in helping getting the life of one of our own back on track. https://www.gofundme.com/rob-boost

22.01.2022 Throwback Thursday! Whilst doing some spring cleaning at the station recently we came across a couple of old photos. The photos aren't dated, but we think they were taken sometime in the early 2000s at Cambridge Aerodrome. Midway Point 3.1, Southern Region 3.1, Primrose Sands 3.1, Richmond 3.1, Cambridge 3.1, Dodges Ferry 3.1, with VH-HRU hovering overhead.

21.01.2022 Our thoughts are with the members of Risdon Vale Brigade, Michael's family and friends and Nyrstar workmates. RIP

20.01.2022 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Only 6 short sleeps remain until Christmas Eve, and that's our favourite time of the year at the Midway Point Fire Brigade - because it means Santa pays us a visit and helps us to deliver lollies all around our community! As is tradition, our lolly run will start at approximately 4pm consecutively from three separate locations. All care is taken to pre-plan our routes to ensure the trucks do not meet each other along the run,... but you may come across us more than once in your travels. Unfortunately due to our ever-growing community it is impossible for us to drive in to every cul-de-sac and some cross streets, so please keep an eye out for us as we may only stop at the end of the street. We can't wait to see everyone's smiling faces, but please remember to stay on the footpath and wait for the firetrucks to come to a complete stop before you approach us! Any photos you happen to snap with Santa, please feel free to share to our page as well. A rough plan of where our trucks will start is below; unfortunately due to the size and complex nature of the run it's a bit too difficult for us to give exact times or locations we'll be at, the best advice is to keep your ear out for the sirens to get close! Midway Point: Starting at Penna Road near the Midway Point Golf Club, on to Kirabati Road and working through streets. Sorell, lower streets: Starting at Shark Point Road near Wolstenholme Drive, on to Gordon Street and covering most side roads. Penna and Sorell, upper streets: Starting at the far end of Shark Point Road, on to Pennington Drive and covering most side roads, then out to Pawleena Road as far as the Sorell Fruit Farm. We'd love if you could share this post far and wide so as many people in our community know as possible!

19.01.2022 Our brigade members are currently assisting with a fire on Pittwater Road near the airport. Please be mindful of emergency vehicles in the area.

18.01.2022 Come down and see us today at the Community Garden Open day hosted by the Midway Point Neighbourhood House. We’ll be here until 3pm with the truck on display answering any questions you may have, we even have some goodies for the young and young at heart!

17.01.2022 Important news from the TFS below

17.01.2022 Members from our brigade will be at today's South Eastern Community Care event, come along and say hi!

15.01.2022 We’re off!! We can’t wait to see you all

13.01.2022 As Santa’s helpers at the Midway Point brigade prepare for our annual lolly run, we take a moment to pause and honour the lives of Horsley Park firefighters Geoffrey Keaton and Andrew O'Dwyer who tragically lost their lives fighting wildfires in country NSW recently. Of particular interest is the firefighters from our brigade whose helmets and boots are seen in this picture, were only last week crewing the other Horsley Park tanker at fires near Grafton. Our thoughts go out to the wider NSW firefighting community during this time.

11.01.2022 The Tasmania Fire Service advise that fire permits are now no longer required throughout the state. However, caution is still required whenever fire is being used outdoors. People who plan to reduce hazards on their property by burning must be mindful of the weather, be well-equipped with working firefighting equipment, be capable of managing the burn and be with the fire at all times until it is extinguished.... For more info visit www.fire.tas.gov.au and call 1800 000 699 to register your burn before you light it. At all times burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws which must be adhered to, and environmental laws which govern smoke emissions.

11.01.2022 With forecast severe fire danger, the Tasmania Fire Service has declared a total fire ban tomorrow for all southern and northern municipalities.

08.01.2022 Vale Owen Hutchinson. Ex-Midway Point brigade member Owen Hutchinson was sadly laid to rest today, following his sudden passing recently. Owen was a volunteer firefighter at our brigade between March 2011 and August 2013.... He was well regarded by our members, actively contributing to the brigade both on and off the fireground. Owen was a past member of Cambridge and Old Beach brigades, as well as being a current member of the Lenah Valley Fire Brigade. Our thoughts are with Owen’s family and friends during this tough time. Rest peacefully, Owen.

04.01.2022 Due to very dry conditions and the increased chance of an early start to the bushfire season, fire permits will be required from Saturday 28 September in Break O'Day, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, and Sorell municipalities. Anyone intending to burn any vegetation over one cubic metre in size will require a permit issued by a TFS Permit Officer before they burn. The requirement for a permit doesn't stop you from reducing hazards on your property by burning-off, but it does add the ben...efit of giving the landowner some additional conditions and controls and ensures TFS is aware of all fires in the landscape. For more information about how to obtain a fire permit call 1800 000 699 or visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

Because it's a total fire ban, any smoke sighting should be treated as a bushfire and responded to quickly.... 04.01.2022 The weather has been turned on and is fantastic today for the Royal Hobart Show holiday! A quick reminder if you’re home and planning to do some burning off, fire permits are now required in Sorell, Glamorgan/Spring Bay and Break O’Day municipalities. Just remember if you’ve had a burn off recently to please check it today in preparation for strong winds tomorrow that could cause flare ups again. ... Anyone intending to burn any vegetation over one cubic metre in size will require a permit issued by a TFS Permit Officer before they burn. The requirement for a permit doesn't stop you from reducing hazards on your property by burning-off, but it does add the benefit of giving the landowner some additional conditions and controls and ensures TFS is aware of all fires in the landscape. 03.01.2022 We were honoured to recently receive our complimentary 'Stress Less Conversation Pack' - an initiative from BEHIND THE SEEN, a not-for-profit support organisation designed for the whole 000 emergency response network in Australia, designed to encourage down to earth and informal discussions around stress. Included in the packs we received are posters which describe levels of stress (and when to seek help) in simple terms, developed by the Centre for Rural & Remote Mental Health with adaptation for first responders by Behind the Seen. The Stress Packs also contain a stress meter, a deck of question cards to encourage conversations around stress and coasters. Thanks again to Behind the Seen for your support of emergency services around Australia!

02.01.2022 Brigade news! At training last week, we had our Annual General Meeting. At the meeting we held an election, and also acknowledged some recent milestones. Congratulations firstly to Nathan Green for his promotion to Fourth Officer. Nathan previously held a Leading Firefighter position, having been in the brigade since he started in our Juniors program. Congratulations to Josh Hill on receiving his (slightly delayed) 5 year pin, for service with the Frankford/Birralee Volunteer... Fire Brigade and with our brigade since re-locating to our area last year. And last, but definitely not least, a huge congratulations to Third Officer Andrew Dare for attending his 1000th recorded incident earlier in the year. This major milestone was commemorated with the presentation of a plaque to Andrew. Andrew first joined the TFS in 1989 with the Lauderdale Fire Brigade - Tasmania, he then moved to our brigade area in 2000 where Andrew has diligently served as firefighter, brigade officer and as Brigade Chief between 2005-2016. Andrew is also the recipient of the TFS Volunteer Medal with Clasp, and the National Medal. Congratulations again to all!

02.01.2022 Members from Orielton, Wattle Hill and our brigades took part in today’s ANZAC Day parade and service at Sorell. Thanks Orielton for the pic!
