14.01.2022 REASONS YOU SHOULD THINK TWICE BEFORE MESSING WITH SPECIAL NEEDS MOM: (I just had to share it) 1. Some of us have given up on social skills and don't care what we say or do. 2. We're not afraid to have a serious "meltdown" of our own. 3. We are tired and all the patience we have is for our kids.... 4. We have a far shorter fuse for nonsense as a result of our responsibilities but A FAR thicker skin. 5. We can get you in a hold/lockdown position in less than 3.5 secs. 6.We can shoot you a look that would make a linebacker tremble in his boots. 7.Chances are it's been awhile since we've had a full night of sleep and that will give us a reason to plead insanity. 8. Our tolerance and patience is for our kids who didn't choose to have special needs, not for someone who CHOOSES to behave inappropriately and is ABLE to control their actions. 9. We're probably already on edge and it would be stupid to push us over. 10. We are sleep deprived and already defensive, and we spend all of our patience on our children, doctors, therapists, social workers and teachers, why would we waste an ounce of it on a total stranger? 11. We've had to fight from the moment of our child's birth so by the time you piss us off we're seasoned battlers and could win a war. 12.We devote our lives to our children and don't need more stress and people who don't understand our life. 13. Wherever there is a cub, there is a mama bear...We're always watching so beware!! See more

10.01.2022 Hopefully this will reach the regional, rural and remote areas... https://ministers.dss.gov.au/media-releases/5096

10.01.2022 Hey everyone, sorry its been a while since we have posted but like always Christmas holidays have taken up alot of time. For me, celebrations galore including our son's 21st birthday was an event in itself... Also the first Christmas in his own home, so we all decided to descend on his place which I'm unsure as to whether he cared for this much at all lol Anyway it's done and dusted for another year... So as for Midwest Links this year, we are still finding our way.. Ju...st to clarify what Midwest Links can do for you as carer and support for your loved ones... Our aim is to assist you in making your way through the systems within disability that makes you feel confident and empowered in the choices that you are making on behalf of your family member. Midwest Links is happy to meet with you and help you understand the bureaucracy of the many systems we as carers need to understand to ensure that family members are given choice and control within their life. Reaching out to others can be difficult as we tend to keep it within our own family units but Midwest Links are living the journey and wish to share their knowledge so you too can share your journey with others. As Midwest Links is a voluntary organisation, please share our vision and aim with others... Nothing is too small for Midwest Links to assist with. ** Meetings about or with NDIS ( that can be a hurdle in itself), schools, Drs, Living independently ** Changes happening for your loved one and don't know where to go? ** Caring role - need a chat?? email us: [email protected] or just pm us via our facebook page. love and light Sharon xx

05.01.2022 Bio - Sharon Gould Hi Everyone, For those who don't know me, here's a little info. Proud parent of 4 beautiful children - 24, 20, 17 & 16. Proud nanny of a gorgeous granddaughter - 10 months.... I have worked in the disability sector for 15 plus years providing support to people with disabilities and their families in coordination of services position but now work between two positions as a Bus Aide and Program Manager with Streeties working with indigenous youth in their Night Outreach program which I love... Back to my family role I also have the privilege advocating for my son who is 20 and has an intellectual and physical disability. This has not always been an easy journey as Kyle has not been given a formal diagnosis but has managed to completely send us off centre with some of the bureaucratic hurdles due to be undiagnosed. But he has completed his schooling both within mainstream and specialised education. And as of May this year, moved into his own unit with 24 hour support and a team of awesome staff. I love the fact that this has been able to happen for him as it has given the whole family a sense of comfort to know that other people are being a support and confidant to him. He is spreading his love of life and people to all. My intent for this group is to be able to provide to other carers in their journey, comfort, choice, non judgement and empowerment so they can thrive in their role as carer. Whilst we didn't all choose this path for ourselves, there is a reason why the universe chose us to take this journey. The good, the bad and the ugly at all times is not for everyone but if we can lean on each other, develop our resources and our strength no one can break us down... Love and light xx
