24.01.2022 If you’re spending a few days in Kalbarri, we highly recommend you book yourselves onboard a sunset cruise with Kalbarri Cruises. Grant is an excellent guide and provides a great experience. A great way to see the beautiful Murchison River. Sunday Shoutouts

23.01.2022 Kalbarri still has an array of flowering shrubs that cover the vast flat landscapes and straight roadsides. You'll notice whites plumes of Grevillea towering above all else, with other unique species fighting for space and glory. Couldn't help to notice this one though. A mixture of beautiful pinks and whites, with a scent very much like a home grown Gardenia. ... 23.01.2022 Astrolabes were used to determine time and position using the sun and the stars in the night sky. Using this equipment might have been useful to guide the Batavia on its long journey, but things turned for the worst, especially when the Captain made plans to overthrow the Commander. When the Captain decided not to care for having perfect navigation...things eventually ended badly. This Astrolabe, is about 400 years old, and was recovered from the Batavia on Morning Reef, nea...r the Abrolhos Islands. The bricks on the base of the monument are from the 396 year old original ballast bricks from the Batavia, making them the oldest, European bricks in Australia. We absolutely love the history of our town! #shipwreck #astrolabe #bataviamutiny #wanderoutyonder #museumofgeraldton #australiascoralcoast

20.01.2022 Ellendale Pool is a unique part of our region and we just can’t get enough of paddling through its waters on warm spring days like today. Ellendale Pool is part of the Greenough River and has about 1.6km of waterway that you can swim or kayak through. The cascading gum trees along the banks provide homes to an abundance of bird life. It’s easy to make a short journey a long one just by being in nature. Take a guided tour with us or hire our kayaks to utilise at your own lei...sure. #wanderoutyonder #australiascoralcoast #justanotherdayinwa #visitgeraldton #kayaking #hiddenoasis

20.01.2022 It’s amazing what you find when you’re on the road. The benefits of having a guide with a keen eye for what’s going on in the scrub is advantageous! A little unexpected to find this Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos manglesii subs. quadrans) as its not a common sight. @innersight_photography.co couldn’t resist taking a few shots! ... #kangaroopaw #anigzanthos #kalbarrinationalpark

19.01.2022 Our mates at Abrolhos Adventures have got a damn good thing going at the Abrolhos Islands. Sure, you can SUP board at any old beach, but nothing beats doing it in paradise! Check it out!

16.01.2022 Nothing beats getting off the bitumen and adventuring off road. Stockyard Gully Reserve & Beekeepers Reserve still has an abundance of wildflowers! Cave exploring at Stockyard Gully Caves keeps the young ones entertained, whilst checking out the vast caverns, swallows nests and unique limestone features. Greenhead is always beautiful, hosting many little blue patches amongst the reef. Such an amazing coastline! ... What’s your plans these school holidays?

14.01.2022 If you haven’t yet taken a walk or a bike ride down Geraldtons beautiful foreshore, then we recommend you put on your list of things to do! The stunning blue beaches, easy to navigate pathways, artistic architecture and awesome playgrounds and cafes prove that it’s amazing place to spend the morning or evening. We even do guided tours along the foreshore!

10.01.2022 What we know as The Australian Christmas Tree (Nyutsia floribunda) is known as the Moojar within the Noongar people. There is a lot of cultural significance related to the Moojar. The Swan River Aborgines say there is an evil being called Nyowalong, who resembles an old man and hides amongst the banksia. He collects the sap from the Moojar, and approaches camps, emitting a small screech with every step he took. Although the Noongar people eat the sap from other Banksia & Aca...cia they would not consume the sap from the Moojar, in fear that the Nyowalong would injure them whilst sleeping. The Moojar is also sacred to the Bibbulmun people, who refer to the tree as the ‘ghost tree’ or ‘tree of souls’. No living Bibbulmun ever sheltered or rested beneath the shade. No flower, bud or sap was ever consumed from it, and the native animals never held refuge beneath its shade. The Moojar was highly spiritual, because it was associated with the spirits of the dead who would take rest in its branches before making their way to the land of ancestors. It is also believed when the Nyutsia Floribunda started flowering, it would determine the upcoming seasons weather. As for its edible purposes, it is believed that the sap was sweet, and the flowers where put in water to make a sweet drink, but because it was sacred to the Noongar people, nothing from this tree was consumed. Whilst the tree holds a huge significance with the indigenous people, botanically speaking, it’s an interesting species. The Midwest region is coming to life, with bright bursts of orange filling scrubland and random patches in paddocks. As a guide, I have the privilege of living so close to these stunning trees. The flowers attract a number of insects and they smell as sweet as a Gardenia.

09.01.2022 What a blast we had with the Abrolhos Adventures family! The Wildflowers are starting to say good bye, but we managed to educate the young crew on identifying different flora and how the Wajarri people used many different species for both food and medicinal purposes. The wreath flowers are still absolutely amazing!
