22.01.2022 On Friday, Minister MacTiernan was in Geraldton to announce the the Government's global Expressions of Interest for the Oakajee Industrial Area Renewable Hydrogen initiative. Renewable Hydrogen is an emerging industry that will play an important part in Western Australia’s energy future. A significant opportunity within WA’s unique renewable hydrogen landscape is the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area (Oakajee SIA) located 435km north of WA’s capital city, Perth and just 25...km north of Geraldton. The Western Australian Government intends to transform this greenfields site into a globally competitive, multi-product renewable hydrogen industrial precinct. Further information on the EOI can be found here: https://www.jtsi.wa.gov.au//renewable-hydrogen-industry/oa

20.01.2022 Thinking about seeing a move this weekend? Well imagine coming here on a Friday night! This week's #ThrowbackThursday takes us to the Oasis drive in from the 1980s. What film do you remember seeing here as a child? Dutton family

19.01.2022 If you find parallel parking a bit tricky, then this view might make you nervous! This is what our Marine Pilots see right before berthing in the Port of Geraldton. These photos were taken onboard the Bulk Carrier CAPETAN GIORGIS as she was brought alongside Berth 3 earlier this month. You can see our Mooring Team standing by to tie her up.

19.01.2022 The local team from Svitzer Australia captured this sunset shot from one of the tug boats bringing in a Berth 7 inbound last week. The bulk carrier loaded 60,000 tonnes of iron ore before departing for China. Brad Aylmore

17.01.2022 Our chicks nesting on port appear to be growing by the hour! These are ‘Australasian Darters’ which are usually solitary birds, forming pairs only while breeding. We are feeling very privileged to witness these babies grow on a daily basis at our workplace! Australasian Darter nests are a flat platform of sticks, lined with green leaves and are usually placed in a tree, but in this case a raised walk platform. Both adults share in egg incubation and care of the young. Some... of our staff were lucky enough to witness the parents change shifts when the chicks were much smaller!! Australasian Darters are a similar species to the Pied Cormorant that have a big colony in the Port. Just another example of our port operations working in balance with the environment. Further info courtesy of Birdlife Australia; Breeding is erratic, happening whenever water levels and food supplies are suitable, but most often occurs in spring and summer. The male decorates a nest-site with green leafy twigs and displays to attract a mate, with elaborate wing-waving and twig-grasping movements. Both sexes complete the nest, incubate the eggs and raise the young. Chicks can swim after about four weeks in the nest and start to fly at about 50 days.

17.01.2022 We tried to think of a great Rosemary pun to get your attention...but nothing "organic" came to mind We welcomed the TSL ROSEMARY to the Port of Geraldton last week to load 25,000 tonnes of wheat. She spent several days alongside Berth 3 before departing for the Port of Yangon in Southeast Asia.... Brad Aylmore

17.01.2022 We welcomed back a second group of young women from Shine Today for a tour of the Port of Geraldton recently The group spent time with the women on our Executive before taking part in a port tour. Thanks for visiting us Shine! We look forward to having you back again soon.

17.01.2022 A new harvest season well and truly began at the Port of Geraldton last week with two 50,000 tonne shipments of wheat loaded The Ocean Sukses departed Geraldton on Friday for Jakarta, while the SUN VIL II left yesterday for a port in the United Arab Emirates.

17.01.2022 The Eastgate was at Berth 4 in the Port of Geraldton last week loading 31,000 tonnes of mineral sands. She set sail for Xiamen, a port city on China’s southeast coast. Tucked in behind her is the Peace, as the bulk carrier loaded 60,000 tonnes of iron ore before departing for Indonesia.

17.01.2022 Another day, another amazing sunset over our port city! This snap was taken by the talented Travis Petford photography over the Point Moore Lighthouse.

16.01.2022 We love this photo of our Marine Team and crew from Svitzer Australia bringing a #bulkcarrier into the #PortofGeraldton last week. Tracey Guthrie via Geraldton Scene

15.01.2022 This week's #ThrowbackThursday takes us back to 1940s and a very different way of life. Geraldton was seen as a strategic airforce base and an important coastal port during World War II and welcomed several naval ships to its berths. This included the ill-fated HMAS Sydney II on several occasions. More information on the history and memories of the HMAS Sydney II is available here > www.hmassydneymemorialgeraldton.com.au

15.01.2022 We were thrilled to officially open a new public toilet facility at the Geraldton Fishing Boat Harbour recently, injecting $175,000 into the local economy. The FBH toilets were designed by Teakle & Lalor and constructed by J Hine & Son, both local Mid West businesses. The new toilet facilities are a considerable upgrade on the original toilet block with improved security and hygiene measures. They will be very welcomed by FBH users and are a timely upgrade with increased tourism activity in the area.

14.01.2022 Meet Louise Louise joined MWPA just under a year ago as one of two Graduate Accountants in our Finance Team. Her role is primarily responsible for the accounts receivable function, providing payroll for all our employees and helping with any other financial matters across the Port of Geraldton.... Louise decided to study Accounting because of the variety of scenarios and aspects that make every day different, which is part of the reason she enjoys working at MWPA. Her advice for future graduates is to be curious and embrace the opportunities in front of you. Be open minded and learn from the people around you as everyone has something valuable to teach. Keep an eye out over coming months as we introduce you to more of our #PortPersonalities

06.01.2022 #ThrowbackThursday If you think traffic was bad on your way to work today, imagine having to dodge this on the road instead! Following the end of World War II, the Port of Geraldton became a hub in Western Australia for wheat and livestock export across the world.... Sights like the one below weren't that unusual when this photo was taken in circa 1945.

06.01.2022 Our Maintenance Team made an exciting discovery on Berth 1 recently. A Cormorant (Shag) has nested with her chicks on the finger at the end of the berth. It's the first time we've seen baby Shags nesting in or around the Port of Geraldton before!
