15.01.2022 Australia in Timor-Leste Deputy Ambassador Philippa Venning was pleased to take part in official commemorations for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the launch of the 16 days campaign in suku Forohem, Covalima. Secretary of State for Equality and Inclusion Maria José da Fonseca Monteiro de Jesus said it was everyone’s responsibility to end violence against women.... Violence is not a normal or natural way to solve problems. Respect is key. We need to respect our partners. We also need to respect persons with disability and the LGBTIQ community. Meanwhile Counsellor Carli Shillito visited PRADET in Oecusse to thank them for their hard work and dedication to support victims of violence and abuse. Australia supports PRADET’s counselling, shelter and medical services across five locations in Timor-Leste through our Nabilan program. A great start to the 16 days of activism!

06.01.2022 Australia in Timor-Leste COVID-19 has increased stress for many families and communities, increasing the risk of violence against women, children and persons with a disability. In partnership with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion and with support from Australia, PRADET Timor Lester-Leste, Fatin Hakmatek and FOKUPERS shelters as well as Alfela TL women and children’s legal aid are available to support victims of domestic violence, sexual violence and child abuse.... We all have a responsibility to take care of each other. If you or your family and friends need help, please contact these services.
