11.01.2022 World, meet our finished project - Melbourne Connect, part of Melbourne University. Melbourne Connect is a visionary development project located in Carlton on the site of the former Royal Women’s Hospital. It is being delivered through a partnership between the University of Melbourne and a consortium of developers, investors and managers led by Lendlease. Strategically located between Melbourne University and Melbourne’s CBD, this flagship innovation precinct co-locates mul...tiple players in the innovation system to generate diverse social, environmental and economic benefits. The Lendlease consortium chose Miglic MacLeod for our responsiveness and innovation to assist in the value management and redesign of a structurally challenging façade. Consisting of inclined brick walls interspersed with glass panels, the façade overhung a pedestrian walkway and posed a high level of risk. It needed to be designed with a clear focus on strength and safety. Our approachable and collaborative consulting style allowed us to gain an intimate understanding of the project needs. We not only delivered a safe design solution but also saved tonnes of steel through effective value management. Miglic MacLeod was able to provide exceptional, tangible results: a safe, functional and optimised design solution, within budget and time constraints, that was practical and efficient. #melbourneconnect #innovationprecinct #structuralengineer #structuralengineering #engineering #civilengineering #miglicmacleod

07.01.2022 Were pleased to announce that our Star of the Sea - Heritage Wing project based in Brighton Melbourne is now out for tender with construction due to start later this year. It has kept a number of our team members busy through these trying times and very successful job completed whilst working from home. The project included: Extensive and complex alterations and additions to an existing building that is over 100 years of age. New Portico structure created on ground floor... out of arched reinforced concrete beams and columns underpinning an existing 2 level load bearing masonry and timber building. Better accessibility of levels by introduction of a new lift and concrete staircase within the existing 3 level building. Incorporation of new structural steel framing to support floors where load bearing walls are being demolished and to provide bracing. New 3 storey amenities hub building tucked in between 2 existing building with cantilevering reinforced concrete link bridges and cantilevering steel roofs. The amenities hub structure is generally a reinforced concrete structure. Access limitations, site constraints and consideration of the adjacent heritage buildings and protection thereof, drove many of the design decisions. See more
