So much has happened this year already but when I begin to worry about what is going to happen next and feel like its time to pack up and go live in a cave somewhere so nothing bad can happen, I remember that this little one can be an agent of change. Will she be the one to stand up for the ones who cannot fight for themselves? ... Will she be the one who finally puts an end to our ongoing destruction of the environment? Will she simply open a kick ass doughnut shop and spread love in her own way?! I dont know what the future holds for the world, but these little ones ARE the future. 20.01.2022 One of my favourite things about shooting weddings is capturing the quiet moments on the day. Sometimes they are happening in the loudest, most craziest and amazing locations. And it’s easy to miss them because they don’t happen for long. They're a fleeting moment in time. What I like to do is take a moment to myself at different parts of the day just to simply observe everything. I’m so humbled and thankful that I get to be the photographer that my couple have chosen to cap...ture they memories of the day when everything changed. The day they said the magic words and locked each other in for life. These images are some of my favourite quiet moments that you simply cannot stage. Grandparents watching their Grandson or Granddaughter say their vows. A proud Dad who just wants to take a sneaky photo of his little girl putting on her shoes before she leave the family home (you know who you are!). All these moments add up to create the most amazing and heart exploding exciting days of your life. 20.01.2022 Hey! Im still here! Yes, its been FRIGGIN AGES since I posted anything to my pages but Im back! Now that were all starting to come out of our Covid Coma its time to get back to work and tell you what Ive been up to during my social media hiatus. ... Firstly, Samantha and I welcomed this beautiful little soul to our family. Everyone meet Isabella! Keep an eye out on my stories for some heart exploding cuteness! She arrived on ANZAC day morning and has been teaching us a lot everyday about family, unconditional love and stain removal! In the lead up to the arrival of Isabella, I had blocked out my calendar for weddings as some of you will know which avoided my little business being effected by Rona. But that isnt to say that my family, friends and I were spared from the cruelty and sheer pain-in-the-arseness that Rona brought along. We were not allowed to have any visitors to the hospital to welcome Isabella to the family. Some very dear friends of ours had to move the date for their wedding to next year. As most of you will know that while Id love it to be, photography isnt my full time job. There have been redundancies made and hours cut and some great friends unfortunately were let go. All. Thanks. To. Rona. Whaaaaaat a bitch. But I truly feel that we are at a huge turning point and we will all have to figure out the new normal in the post Covid world. At the end of the day... I still BLOODY LOVE A GOOD WEDDING! I STILL LOVE MEETING NEW COUPLES AND CAPTURING THEIR ONE AMAZING DAY! 16.01.2022 What a way to end the perfect day. Caitlin & Luke bloody smashed it out of the park yesterday! Starting off in Geelong with the boys, then Ceres for Caitlin’s prep photos. Sacred Heart Chapel looked amazing as the happy couple said their vows, and then we shot the hell outta Dog Rocks (one of my favourite locations around Geelong). And finally we partied it up at Barwon Edge Boathouse. It was such a pleasure to hang out with these guys and their awesome, warm and welcoming family. Mr & Mrs Farquhar, CONGRATULATIONS! YOU GUYS ROCKED IT!

12.01.2022 First let me say, there is no sales pitch here. No tricks. No bullshit! Just me getting a new perspective on my business and being a little bit vulnerable. As most of you know, I still have a 9 - 5 job (that I actually enjoy) but it’s not what I want to do forever. I would love to shoot enough weddings a year that I could leave my day job behind and focus all my energy on photography, giving my clients the best experience possible.... Since November, I have been putting a lot of hours in before and after work to get my wedding photography business to thrive with the help of @jailong.co and the amazing community he has built for people like myself. I went at it like a frog in a sock! I changed my prices to reflect the local market and I developed a full price guide, with pricing that felt right at the time. And then crickets. My inbox went quiet. So I attended the recent Wedding Photography Summit (online of course) to get ideas of how I could improve. One of the presentations at the summit discussed making myself accountable for my business and ‘letting go of expectations and normal.’ This really resonated with me and so, I have decided to reduce my pricing. My full 10 hour day service is now almost $1000 less than it was yesterday. This is not about reducing my worth, it's about providing an amazing experience and increasing the value I give my couples. I believe I give my clients the absolute best experience and I want more couples to experience that. My hope is this reduction in fees will make it more affordable for couples to book my services and lock in the awesome photographer they’ve been looking for! Thanks for reading. Mike X

08.01.2022 I’ve been sitting on this image for a couple of weeks now and I was hoping I would be able to use it after a whole year to say wow, remember when we had to attend weddings like this? We had to wear masks if we were actually LEGALLY allowed to attend an indoor wedding! How crazy was that shit?!?. Matt’s Mum, Heather was unable to be there when he married the love of his life, Jess. She was stuck in Brisbane due to the recent lockdown. When I noticed a guest holding this pho...ne up during the ceremony, I couldn’t help but snap this shot. It’s definitely not your standard wedding photo, but it is quintessentially 2020/21. This new set of cases that have popped up in Victoria has me, and I’m sure a lot of you guys a little worried. No one wants to be banned from hugging, kissing and congratulating their loved ones on arguably the biggest most happiest, craziest and wonderful day of their lives so please stay safe Victoria. We need to get this shit under control!

07.01.2022 I had the absolute privilege to be present when Jess and Matt tied the knot yesterday at the amazing @oscarshotel . My first wedding of the 2021 season is officially under my belt and it feels great to be back! I knew that once weddings came back to Victoria, the photos would be different. 07.01.2022 Ive always loved this shoot with Robyn & Ty at @montsalvatweddings. I remember it was BLOODY FREEZING and Robyn was such a trooper standing around for photos in 9 degree weather in Eltham. 02.01.2022 How To Create A Rock Solid Wedding Day Timeline. Part 1. This is a question I get asked a lot during my client meet & greets, so I thought I’d make a post because I’m sure other couples are trying to figure this part out!... Enjoy the read. It’s a big one! So maybe save it for later! I like to start with the ceremony time. It’s the biggest thing that HAS to happen on the day. Once we have the ceremony time, we need to start planning out the hours before. When there is a groom (or groom 1), I usually like to start the day’s coverage with him and the groomsmen. I usually like to have about 30-45 minutes with them for prep photos before heading to the second partner. For two beautiful brides, this is where it needs some extra planning. Especially if the brides won’t be seeing each other before the ceremony. Sometimes both partners get ready at the same venue so everyone is together and chilled. Other times, separate venues are booked and so a second HMUA team needs to be factored into the timeline. This is one of those times where a second photographer might come in handy. It would allow both brides to be prioritised during their prep photos without having to worry about start times for the bridesmaids etc. So now we work towards the reception time. This gives us a general idea of how the (usually) afternoon will flow. Things to consider would be travel time and general logistics. How many people do we need to have with us during photo time etc we also need to work out how long we’ll need for all the family groups! HOT TIP : Making a list of the groups of family members is a great idea, but what’s an even better idea? Give me a copy of the list so I can keep track, but also give one copy to the LOUDEST family member from that side! You know who I’m talking about! They know all the family members needed for each set of images and so it’ll be a little less like herding cats and make the family photos run a bit smoother!?
