25.01.2022 It’s #internationalcoffeeday, and what better way to mark it than catching up with constituents and spilling the beans

25.01.2022 Conservation Volunteers Australia do some fantastic work, including right here in Macarthur alongside Campbelltown City Council Bushcare. I was pleased to secure $20 000 in funding to enable the organisation to undertake vital koala habitat conservation in Macarthur. Campbelltown's koala colony is a source of great pride for our community, and it is vital we protect this colony for future generations.

24.01.2022 Proud to be a patron for our mighty Macarthur FC whose first game is tonight against Western Sydney Wanderers FC. Let’s go!

24.01.2022 With reported cases of COVID-19 in the Macarthur region, it is important that we all remain diligent. Please take care of one another, practice good hygiene, maintain social distancing and get tested if symptoms arise. There are a number of testing locations across the Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly LGAs.... A full list of testing clinics can be found here https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/clinics.aspx

23.01.2022 Today, Scott Morrison delivered a severe blow to approximately 20,600 Jobkeeper recipients in Macarthur with cuts equating to between $300 to $750 per fortnight being slashed from their payments. This means thousands of Macarthur households and businesses are worse off during a time of economic crisis. This follows last Friday's changes, with JobSeeker payments now equating to $40 a day which is again too harsh on a number of Australian households. Our nation is in recessi...on however the Morrison Government believes now is the time to withdraw economic support and reassurance to millions of Australian household's and subsequently, Australian companies too. This is simply unacceptable and when Parliament resumes next week, my Australian Labor Party colleagues and I will be fighting hard for Australian households and businesses.

23.01.2022 Simply put, three successive Coalition Governments have failed to invest in Macarthur. History has and will show that the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison years were ones of neglect and deliberate mismanagement of Macarthur’s issues.

23.01.2022 It's Campbelltown's 200th Birthday this year! And to mark this Bicentenary, I am calling on residents to share their favourite images and stories of our wonderful city; both past and present. You can email them to my office [email protected] to be shared on my website and Facebook page, and please feel free to include your favourite spots, institutions or areas.... https://www.drmikefreelander.com.au/campbelltowns-bicenten/

22.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all of my Macarthur constituents! I wished a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone in our community in Parliament on the 8th December, which you may watch here. While I may have been interrupted by the sleigh bells during my speech, I sincerely hope that all my constituents have a fantastic holiday period, wonderful Christmases to those who celebrate, and a Happy New Year.

22.01.2022 Sleigh, what?! It's that time of year again and I am proud to partner with Life beyond barriers to collect toys for Macarthur children and families doing it tough this year. Macarthur residents have big hearts and I encourage anyone to drop off unwrapped toys to my office at 37 Queen St Campbelltown by the 11 December. These will be quarantined before being delivered to some very grateful children.

20.01.2022 This week in Parliament, Anne Stanley MP and I spoke in the House about the need for the Government to begin investing in South West Sydney. We are growing exponentially, yet we are not being provided with the appropriate infrastructure to deal with this growth. Local residents need access to local jobs; finally funding vital infrastructure projects for our community is one way to spur job creation.... If our economy is to recover in the wake of COVID-19, the Government needs to invest heavily in our region to drive job creation and support local businesses.

20.01.2022 We need to see a comprehensive plan for jobs in the upcoming federal budget. Next week, the Government has the opportunity to change their trajectory - they can continue down the failed path of trickle down economics, providing hand outs to conglomerates like Foxtel and Crown, or they can use the upcoming budget to support local jobs, families and businesses. This budget, the Government would do well to provide Macarthur with the infrastructure and investment it so desperatel...y needs. https://www.macarthuradvertiser.com.au//macarthur-matter/

19.01.2022 As we all begin our trips away this long weekend to visit friends and family, I encourage everyone to be vigilant and mindful of ourselves and others on our roads. Double demerits continue until 11:59pm, 5 October and NSW Police Force will be ensuring the safety and well being of each vehicle; specifically targeting mobile phone, seatbelt, speeding and motorcycle helmet offences.

16.01.2022 I wish everyone a happy and safe New Years Eve. I would like to thank you all for your care and support during a difficult 2020. I am optimistic about 2021 and I look forward to all the great things that will be happening in Macarthur. Please stay safe. Please help those that are doing it tough and please reach out to those that are lonely.

15.01.2022 GREAT NEWS! Funding for the creation of The Shepherd Centre's new Centre of Excellence in Macarthur has now been secured! This new facility is projected to service 200 deaf and hearing impaired children, and their families, providing world-class early intervention services.... This is a huge win for our community and I am so pleased that we have finally been able to secure the funding for this worthy project. I have been lobbying for this for some time, and I am so grateful that NSW Minister for Health, Brad Hazzard, has come onboard and is supporting this essential project. There are a staggering 431 children with hearing loss as their primary disability living in South West Sydney; the second-highest region in Australia. 1 in 300 children in New South Wales are diagnosed with hearing loss by school age, yet tragically one in two children with hearing loss are not receiving any specialised support. This new facility will ensure local residents can access the services they need, right here in Macarthur!

15.01.2022 This morning I met with workers at the Coles Smeaton Grange depot, who have unfairly been locked out of their workplace. Many of the employees I met with today have been working for the company for over 20 years. Coles is planning on closing the warehouse and shifting towards automation by 2023 - workers rightfully want to be treated fairly in their redundancies and have the opportunity to continue to work for the company in new facilities.... Instead, they have been unfairly locked out of work for three months until February 11. This aggressive decision by Coles means that around 350 local employees will be receiving no pay over Christmas and New Years. Over the last year, despite the pandemic, the Coles Group made a profit of 978 million dollars. Their CEO received a 29% increase in remuneration. Their cruel and heartless decision by Coles will see many of our essential workers go without this holiday period. I am proud to stand alongside these local employees, who deserve to be treated far better. United Workers Union

12.01.2022 At a glance, these are my thoughts on last nights budget. The Government has failed to properly invest in all areas of the Australian economy, such as social housing, climate change and childcare, as well as within our society, with women and migrants being particularly left out of substantial and beneficial policies. Our net debt will reach $703 billion by years end and then a record $966 billion by June 2024; which current and future generations will struggle to pay.

10.01.2022 Please be advised that double demerits begin tonight at midnight through to midnight on the 3rd of January 2021. I encourage all of my constituents to drive safely this holiday period for our community.

09.01.2022 I’m wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and joyful holiday season. It’s been a bugger of a year, but we have pulled through together as a community. I thank everyone for their support throughout 2020 and I look forward to working for and with you all in 2021. ... My office closes today for a short break; however I’m still able to be reached via email or by leaving a message on our office phone.

06.01.2022 8 hours work, 8 hours recreation and 8 hours to sleep. This was the guiding philosophy of unions around the world in the late 19th-early 20th century as they fought to secure fair work and lifestyle arrangements for workers. Today, as we enjoy a day off from work and spend it with our friends and family, let us remember the strong and bold union movements that helped deliever these important workplace reforms. This lasting legacy is an enduring reminder of the advances unions have made on behalf of workers.

05.01.2022 Sad news today that Susan Ryan, Labor’s first female minister who pioneered women’s rights based legislation, has died aged 77. She was Australia's first Age Discrimination Commissioner and pushed for what would become the Sex Discrimination Act. Vale Susan Ryan

05.01.2022 Organ donation is an important conversation that must be had as it can be a matter of life and death for so many people; including ourselves or our loved ones. So today, on DonateLife Thank You Day, is a good start to consider organ donation. Today we remember donors for their life saving decision to donate their organ and tissue. For further information, head to: https://donatelife.gov.au

05.01.2022 Great to join with Conservation Volunteers Australia and Campbelltown Council’s Bushcare initiative in Ruse this morning to conserve some of our koala corridors! I was pleased to help fund this worthy initiative, securing $20 000 through the Communities Environment Program, to assist in the preservation of our local koala habitat. We need to be restoring and preserving our local colony’s habitat, to ensure the survival of Campbelltown’s koalas in the face of urban sprawl.... Thank you to David from CVA, as well as Councillor Rey Manoto, Michael from Campbelltown City Council and the team of volunteers present this morning for all of your hard work!!

04.01.2022 In our changing world thanks to the pandemic, even my tours of Parliament House with local school students have had to be reconfigured! Thank you to the wonderful Year 6 students of Harrington Park Public School for joining me today to discuss all things parliament and politics. I look forward to having you in Canberra for the real tour one day soon!

03.01.2022 Every hour in Australia, one amputation is performed, resulting in to close to 9,000 every year. Diabetes, vascular disease, traumatic accidents, infections and cancer are the main reasons for amputation. National Amputee Awareness Week (4 11 October) is held to celebrate each and every one of them. Head to Limbs 4 Life for more information and to support www.limbs4life.org.au #NAAW20 #GetYourRibbonOn

03.01.2022 It was great to pop in to DECO in Minto today, to visit Ross and his great team. DECO is one of many fantastic local manufacturing firms in Macarthur. They specialise in creating aluminium building products - such as cladding, decks, signage and flooring. Their products are world class, and importantly - made right in Macarthur, supporting local jobs and businesses!... Manufacturing is one of our most crucial industries, and we ought to be supporting it further as we attempt to recover from this recession.

03.01.2022 First Nations peoples have a connection and bond to this continent that is unbreakable. Having cared for and occupied this land for over 65,000 years, their spirituality and stories continue to live on today. Macarthur is built on the land of the Tharawal people, whose footprints of those who have been before us continues to exist through the beauty of our natural environment; which we cherish greatly. This NAIDOC Week, it is important for us to remember that this land Alw...ays Was, Always Will Be the home of our First Nations people and celebrate the wonderful culture and traditions that make our nation better off. #NAIDOC2020

02.01.2022 Last night we saw the handing down of the Coalition's latest Budget. This Budget delivered very little for Macarthur residents. Our community is crying out for investment from the Morrison Government, and their budget leaves much to be desired.... The Budget will rack up a trillion dollars of debt but still doesn’t do enough to create jobs, fails to build for the future and leaves too many Australians behind. The Coalition ought to have used this Budget to stimulate economic activity in our growing region, providing our community with the support it so desperately needs to recover in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

02.01.2022 Remembrance Day Today we recognise the service and sacrifice of the more than 102, 000 Australian men and women who have given their lives in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. It is important that we all pause and reflect upon their service, and to honour the service of all current and former ADF personnel.... I encourage all to pause and observe a minute’s silence 11am. Lest we forget.
