23.01.2022 While going to the cinema might become problematic, viewing interesting films is still possible...

19.01.2022 Everyone is welcome to the Mildura Film Society Screening on Sunday March 29th at 7pm, "It Must Be Heaven": Winning a Special Mention at Cannes as well as the FIPRESCI Prize, the delightfully whimsical It Must Be Heaven is director/writer/star Elia Suleiman’s first feature in a decade, following 2009’s The Time That Remains. Often likened to a modern-day Buster Keaton or Jacques Tati, Suleiman employs silent comedy to wryly reflect on questions of home, identity and belonging.... "Mostly, It Must Be Heaven is about how we view the world through the Instagram filter of what defines us. But it’s also, arguably, more objective than that suggesting that we all now live in a kind of global Palestine, where arbitrary displays of power, threats of violence, and lost people in search of meaning and identity are the new normal." Screen Daily. Film Society members are invited to meet at The Workers across the road from Wallis Cinema to join a friendly discussion of the film afterwards.. For membership information contact [email protected]

18.01.2022 Mildura Film Society's screening of "It Must Be Heaven" scheduled for 29th March has been cancelled due to the closure of cinemas for the time being. Please have a look at our post about Virtual Cinema in the meantime. Stay safe everyone

17.01.2022 All are welcome to the Mildura Film Society and Wallis Cinema screening of The Peanut Butter Falcon at 7pm on Sunday 23rd February 2020. The Rotten Tomatoes summary is below; A modern Mark Twain style adventure story, THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON tells the story of Zak (Zack Gottsagen), a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from a residential nursing home to follow his dream of attending the professional wrestling school of his idol, The Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church). A strange turn of events pairs him on the road with Tyler (Shia LaBeouf), a small-time outlaw on the run, who becomes Zak's unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whisky, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), a kind nursing home employee charged with Zak's return, to join them on their journey.

14.01.2022 NEXT SCREENING SUNDAY 10TH MARCH 2013 Zero Dark 30. Zero Dark Thirty is a 2012 American historical drama film directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Mark Boal. Billed as "the story of history's greatest manhunt for the world's most dangerous man," the film is a dramatization of the United States operation that found and killed Osama bin Laden, leader of al-Qaeda. It was produced by Boal, Bigelow, and Megan Ellison. It stars Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, ...Chris Pratt, Jennifer Ehle, Mark Strong, Kyle Chandler, and Édgar Ramírez. It was independently financed by Ellison's Annapurna Pictures. The film had its premiere in Los Angeles, California on December 19, 2012 and had its wide release on January 11, 2013. Zero Dark Thirty received wide critical acclaim and was nominated for five Academy Awards for the 85th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Jessica Chastain) and Best Original Screenplay. Zero Dark Thirty earned four Golden Globe Award nominations, including Best Picture Drama, Best Director, and Best Actress Drama for Chastain, which she won. It has also generated controversy, both for graphic portrayal of torture of suspects and for what is described by some as a misleading portrayal of torture as critical to the United States' success in gaining information on bin Laden's associates and location. In addition, Republicans suggested that the filmmakers were given improper access to classified materials, which they and the Obama administration denied. Both screen at 7 pm. Hope to see you at both. See you Sunday.

10.01.2022 It Must Be Heaven screening at Wallis Cinema on Sunday 29th March at 7pm. Palestinian director Elia Suleiman continues to relish the minutiae and absurdities of daily life via vignettes of life at home and abroad.
