25.01.2022 Our Saplings Studio further explored their learning focus of My Body! My Way! today with a Group Time about tricky people. What is a tricky person? First, we teach the children what a tricky person is. Tricky people do not always look scary or sinister. Children may have an understanding based on the appearance of strangers in books, movies, or television.... There are two kinds of strangers: Safe People, and Tricky People. Talk with children about both. Safe Strangers Safe Strangers are those who can be approached by a child for help, even though they are not known to the family. For example, Safe People are teachers, police officers, librarians, or other childrens mothers. Tricky People We talked with children about how to recognise a dangerous situation. Adults often describe warning signals as red flags. Children dont understand red flags, but they know about tricks. No child wants to be tricked! Educators talked with the children about Tricky People, and that a dangerous situation might be a stranger who is trying to trick them. No, Go, Yell, Tell No! Any child who is encounters Bad Tricky People should say no! in a loud and strong voice. Practice with your child! Tell them it will be okay to say no very loudly even if they are in a crowded or quiet place. Go! Teach your child to run fast, and far. Tell them to run home, to the nearest neighbour, or to the nearest safe place. Yell! Talk with your child about yelling as loudly as they can, while they run. Help them understand that they want to attract the attention of Safe Strangers who can help. Tell! As soon as they reach safety, the child should tell a trusted adult exactly what happened. Another childs life could depend on it. #foundationallearning #emtionalconfidence #healthyminds #healthybodies

13.01.2022 We should have busy children, not busy toys! - Magna Gerber Loose parts play is a type of play that supports invention, divergent thinking, problem solving and offers a sense of wonder to children. They are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. They are materials with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or combined with other materials.... #physicalhealthandwellbeing #FoundationalLearning #healthyminds #loosepartsplay

12.01.2022 Our Saplings Studio are exploring Healthy Eating! Healthy Bodies! as their learning focus this week! To start their week of fun they explored a touch and feel fruit and veggie bag as a group today! Discussing what each food item was, how we eat it, do we like it, how does it grow, is it healthy and SO much more! Most children attending an education and care setting sit down together and share food, either a small snack or a meal, provided by the service or coming from the ...childs own home. Whilst meal times provide a break from play, they are not a break from learning. It is important for us as Educators to understand the learning potential for children during snack/ meal times and recognise that this activity deserves as much attention to detail and planning as any other activities. Young children are acquiring new skills and learning about the world around them and this includes establishing healthy eating habits. The eating habits formed in early childhood significantly influence our eating habits as adults Good nutrition underpins childrens holistic development. #foundationallearning #physicalhealthandwellbeing #healthybodies #healthyfood

11.01.2022 As part of their Learning Focus based on Child Protection Week, our Saplings Studio went on a digital scavenger hunt! The purpose of this activity is to teach younger children that the world has in it living things, non- living things and digital things. Digital things are non-living things, but often they can seem like living things, such as robots that move and GPS devices that talk. This activity helps young children explore digital things. #foundationallearning ... #healthyminds #healthyworld See more

11.01.2022 A great read in the lead up to Christmas

10.01.2022 I quite often look at my shadow. I like how it follows me round And does all the same things that I do Without ever making a sound.... It hides when the weather is cloudy. But I know it's always quite near, For later, as soon as the sun shines, My shadow is bound to appear. I've noticed sometimes in the evening, While watching the sun going down, My shadow gets all tired and lazy And stretches right out on the ground. But then when it comes to my bedtime, I lie down and switch off the light. My eyes close; I can't help but wonder Where shadows like mine go at night? Perhaps it meets with other shadows, Sits down and tells them about me, The silly things that I've been doing And hears its friends laughing with glee. But when I awake in the morning, I'm always delighted to see As soon as I draw back the curtains, My shadow's there waiting for me. Tracing our Shadows #lifelonglearning #healthyminds #healthyworld #emotionalconfidence
