25.01.2022 Mud is money they say....reacon I dispute this when the whole farm is a quagmire! We've battled boggy, water logged soils & continuous extreme weather events since February, and now have almost reached our normal yearly average rainfall and it's not yet September. Maybe I should play the Beatles tune, "Here comes the Sun" .....get the hint Huey?

22.01.2022 Moving mobs - Speckles on the move April.....Mob 1 soon to be preg tested, Mob 2 & young bull, mopping up a some F1 recips.

21.01.2022 Young bulls are maturing nicely, who'll be promoted during Beef Week end January 2021

20.01.2022 Implanting embryos in blasting cold wind & rain and still 6 degrees at noon, sure ain't fun, as was the case last Friday. While we were rugged up & warm in oilskins, our ET Vet, Dave Morris (Bass Valley Embryo Services) battled on in short sleeves & vest to get the job done. At least his left gloved arm stayed warm in recipient cows but needed a constant top up to a bucket of warm water to keep his 'operative' right arm from freezing! Post ET the next challenge was moving the cows to a somewhat sheltered paddock behind our pine plantation for the next two days of diabolical cold autumn weather. Finally today things moderated so have moved the Angus girls to fresh pasture.

19.01.2022 Trialing Easywean rings on a few Q drop calves with the plastic nose rings inserted easily without a fuss. Calves seem happy staying with their mums during weaning and aren't having any problem grazing pastures whilst the milk bond is being broken.

16.01.2022 Keeping busy & half way through our next ET program for Angus recips. Purebreds now preg tested and all AI' d are in calf. A young mop up bull is being used over the empty F1's, (Speckle crosses from our previous ET program) and those females will be sold PTIC. We also have available inexpensive commercial Speckle Park semen for anyone interested (https://www.milkywayspecklepark.com.au/

16.01.2022 A bit slower off the mark than usual, must have been due to the funny camera man standing at the gateway.....

16.01.2022 Our first Speckle Park calves for spring 2020....... others due late November.

13.01.2022 Warm autumn days and rapidly growing speckle calves still puts a smile on my face......even with the 'state of affairs' around the globe.

13.01.2022 Hill climbers - pregnant cows grazing the steep back gully...

12.01.2022 Ahhh......a weekend with two days of sun, which have been few and far between this year. Youngsters brought up for drench & mineral applications.

09.01.2022 Check out the awesome story about Speckle Park on page 18: http://specialpubs.austcommunitymedia.com.au//2020/SPI/08/ Congratulations to the breed society, Sp...eckle Park International, for commissioning this trial work, where F1 Speckle Park produced a nearly $150 premium carcase! #specklepark

09.01.2022 Due to changes in Facebook policy, banning the selling of cattle (including genetics & hides) on this site, please head over to MeWe.com for Classified adverts and post in Speckle Park Breeders: Australia.

08.01.2022 Completed our follow up AI & ET program Saturday, for purebreds and SP crosses, again many thanks to our Vet - David Morris of Bass Valley ET services. Rather uncanny that we had the reverse challenge of those in the dry north, with too much grass proteins & rich feed over summer. This affected our November ET program ie cystic recips so decided to post phone until late Feb. Normally it's hot & dry now but not this year, everywhere still green so our Speckles were rationed on fibrous oaten hay in a grazed out paddock. Fingers crossed everything holds!

08.01.2022 During this very wet start to 2020 we've been concerned about pasture management & pugging when feeding out either via hay rings or rolling out manually. After unsuccessfully looking around for a 2nd hand bale feeder, I mentioned it to a farm contractor (supplying us with hay) and he managed to source one locally, & even did a few minor repairs on it before delivering the goods. Many thanks Mike Allen, (Allens Contracting) it works a treat!

07.01.2022 July 2020 - girls pre empting their paddock move...it's been a very wet & cold first half year down south, so having to ration the extra hay bought in to get through to spring.

07.01.2022 Helping out a "Speckle Park" mate - BigWig Studs fire & drought affected heifers arrived safely from NSW via Buckleys Livestock transport this hot afternoon. After meeting the "locals", they heading straight to the water trough before indulging in some waste high green tucker. Soon they'll be as well conditioned as our speckles Martin & Marilu, and I'll care for them as if they were my own until you are back on your feet.

05.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all our Speckle Park friends - a few pics of new additions at Milky Way, including one little freeloader, who couldn't quite make it up the steep track to the yards. Inquisitive calves & heifers check out the UTV's normal cargo, (whilst dealing with an overflowing trough) and all baled up.... hay cut and baled late last night.

05.01.2022 After setting up for Beef Week in 43 C heat on Friday, by noon on Saturday & half way through our stud open day, we got drenched & blanketed in fog. Around 40 people visited throughout the day to inspect our animals whilst braving the elements. Two of our youngest bulls are currently in sale negotiation, whilst 2 others are still available. Thank you to all who made the effort to attend in rather abysmal conditions.

02.01.2022 Calving of our commercial cows has begun in typical August weather.....farming in winter, gotta love it!

01.01.2022 New additions to our stud have found paradise - 31 Kennys Creek Angus cow and calf units, drought stressed, with very low fat scores, will have some down time in our lush ungrazed (summer) back paddocks. These cows will be used as recipients in our next Speckle Park embro transplant program, which will follow our current AI & ET program of Speckle and Speckle cross females.
