25.01.2022 Well on Sunday the 28th it was easy to see why we all pay the big bucks to live in this wonderful part of the world, cool, sunny, a slight breeze and dry. To show their application nearly thirty players were there to contest the Williams, Graham and Carmen stableford event, don't forget our sponsors are the heart of the competitive side of our club so for any legal matters talk to WGC Lawyers. Even though no one cracked 40 points today, there were some very good scores, the ...winner was again decided by one of the terrible countbacks (although this one was relatively easy) and that was Warwick Howarth with 39 points, great second nine mate, second also on 39 was Mark Twomey, that's a couple of countbacks Mark has lost but his shot on 5/14 softened the pain I am sure. Third place went to a reasonably new player/member Jon Collins with a very creditable 36 points, a good consistent round Jon. The Ladies winner today was Marg Azar and even though she didn't get the 30 points she was after, her tee and fairway shots certainly didn't let her down, a few more puts dropping would have been nice. Above, I mentioned Mark Twomey's shot on 5/14, well, being tired of close contests he decided the nearest to the pin on this hole was his, so he aced it with a brilliant hole in one, this is the moment golfers live for, I just hope I live long enough to achieve it, well deserved Mark. Lee Heidke was the winner on 1/10 and I am told he sunk the five footer for his birdie. The other shot of the day was Kelvins on the 9th hole where he was anxious to get ahead of Paul Foster, joking aside it showed why practice chipping is not allowed during putting practice. The two daily draws today went to Tracey Dickinson and Warwick Howarth with the members draw going to Ray Marsh who for once was absent. Mal decided to bring his caddy this week but she quit after nine holes, not sure why but they went home together so all is good. Trevor Warrener is off for an extended holiday touring the outback, he leaves the course in great shape and the team will keep it that way, enjoy yourself and see you in September. Next week is the monthly medal which is sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy and the MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL nine for nine thirty see ya there. Pictured is Mark Twomey winning a hole in one!! Trevor our groundsman extraordinaire, about to leave on a 2 month holiday, have fun Trev.

23.01.2022 WOW! What a beautiful day greeted the twenty four players who turned out for the stroke event today that was sponsored by LIFE LIVE PHARMACY MALANDA and THE REYNOLDS FAMILY a huge thank you for your part in making today such a success. There were some good scores today but the best of the Men were David Welch with 75 for 65 Net, don't knock too much off your handicap until after the Tableland Challenge mate. ... Second, in the Men's category was Warwick Howarth with a 72 for 67 Net, third was a count back (you know how I love those) but it was won by Shaun Darby with 88 for a Net 69 from David Gibson (93 for 69), however the Stewards want to have a look at Shaun, who was the Bradmans winner last week!! The Ladies this week was won by Marg Azar with a very impressive 97 for 70 Net which she informs me is her best for some time, second was Carol Howard with a Net 75 Nearest to the pin shots this week would have taken some beating as both were pretty close with Aaron Smith taking 1/10 and Bob Collyer 5/14, the prize for the other NTP was auctioned for $15 to Carol Howard. We had enough for two weekly draws of $10 and they were won by Bob Collyer and Andrew Bowe, would you believe the member's draw was the same as two weeks ago number 48 which is Paul Fosters and he was away again today. Something I missed last week and for this I apologise, was Justin Cifuentes ten foot put for an Eagle on number eleven, I was his playing partner and it was a perfectly played hole, well done. Next week is the Mungalli Creek Dairy products and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL sponsored Monthly Medal, also take note the A.G.M. is on the 18th October at 8.00 am and all positions will be vacant. The 3rd round of the Tableland Challenge is on the same day so get your team into the Captain. Just News: During the week Trevor, Grant, Warrick and Les knifed and sanded the greens, the new spreader is great as three days later you would hardly know they were sanded. Still looking for someone to take on the job of looking after the gully on no. 3/12. Players are starting to follow Geoff's signs regarding rubbish and food scraps on the course which makes his bin work more pleasant (if that's possible). We are getting the sheds sorted as we need the space and are selling some stuff, an electric buggy that needs some work, and the old fairway slasher to start with, for information on what we have call Trevor or myself on 0417749070.

23.01.2022 Millaa Millaa Opening Day tomorrow sponsored by Elders. We are hoping for an earlier start, to get in before the storms. So please everyone if you can be at the clubhouse by 8.30 to 9 would be fantastic. We now have EFTPOS available. $25 including lunch.... See you all tomorrow. See more

23.01.2022 Today was a perfect one for golf and twenty four players were fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the opportunity, this was made possible by the sponsorship from Malanda Caltex Tropic Petroleum who help us regularly, thank you. The visitors today were Peter Brady and Peter Johnston from Mareeba and Shane Mccarthy from Gordonvale, also Warwick Howarth's son Aaron played in his team. The winning team with 58 2/3 strokes was 'The Fifties' which consisted of Don McH...ardie, Bruce Hunter and Trevor Warrener, in some pretty stiff competition this was a good effort. 'Anon' was in second place about half a stroke further back and in this team was the brother's Grant Miller and Warwick Howarth ably assisted by Aaron Howarth. In third place still under 60 strokes was 'The Brady Bunch' in this team were our two Mareeba visitors Peter Bradey and Peter Johnston plus local member Mark Twomey. These two visitors also featured in the Nearest to the Pins with Peter Bradey winning 1/10 and Peter Johnston getting the second shot nearest on 8/17, Keith Dixon was the only local to feature in this area today with a win on 5/14. Back in the clubhouse, there was enough to have two weekly draws of $10 the first was won by The Club again it was Bruce Hunters purchase of tickets for the club, many thanks. The second winner was Guy Williams and the members draw, worth $60 went to member number 3, Charlie McKean who wasn't there today. Shane Knuth MP the Local Member for Hill has stepped up to sponsor next weeks Tableland Challenge which will help make the day as successful as we want it to be. So if you aren't already in a team get one together or give Bob a call and he will help out if he can. Just News: The new shirts have arrived, some with long sleeves, some with pockets, so Margaret made sure everyone was catered for, well done Marg and thanks to Mungalli Creek Dairy for their major contributions and to MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL for taking a sleeve. The course will be in great shape for the Challenge next week with Trevors and his guys getting stuck in.

23.01.2022 It was a beautiful day for Tobin's 5 Star and TGT sponsored Trophy Day, thanks to Tobin's and TGT for their continued support for this event. There was a good crowd of 22 as the sponsor's prizes are well worth winning, the draw for partners is always fun and turned up some interesting combinations. Our only visitor today; Marty Ots was drawn with Richard Sullivan forming a team that blitzed a very good field getting 39 points on the first nine and 38 on the back, well played... Sol and Marty. Second place with an impressive 62 points was Kelvin Groves and Geoff Errey, they only just pipped David Welch and Greg Taylor who finished with 61 points. In fourth was Paul Foster and Keith Dixon, whose 59 on most days would have earned them better than fourth that's for sure. The N.T.P's today went to Warwick Howarth for his shot on 1/10, quite a few names on 5/14 but the last of these was Richard (Sol) Sullivan. Our visitor Marty Ots had the best second shot on 6/15 which was a lovely wedge over the trees. There were enough (60) for 3 weekly draws; Trevor Warrener's marble was first out, Marty Ots came out next but he insisted we draw again which was Guy Williams number, the third draw went to Ross Heidke and would you believe it, the members draw number was 34 and that also belonged to Ross, quite a profitable day Mr. Heidke. Next week is the November Monthly Medal sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy Products and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL, I haven't done my sums on the Monthly Medal winners but I know there are a few in the mix so make sure you are there. Just in!: We had the AGM today and all positions remained as they were, our financial position is very strong so the only change is an increase of $10 on our yearly fees and this is to cover the increase in affiliation charges. The tanks for our irrigation system have arrived so now the pump has to be installed and everything connected up, then we will self sufficient in regards to water. See you all next week.

22.01.2022 Well ANZAC Day Sunday the 25th definitely was not the best of days for McMahon's stroke event, to be truthful it was a ##*^'# miserable day however in the ANZAC spirit eleven of us decided they were going to play if it was at all possible. After checking the greens and fairways it was decided play could go ahead but carts could only cross the fairways and number 4/13 green was not to be used with 3 shots to be added after the players ball passed a line level with the fifth t...ee. With only eleven players McMahon's day was postponed and everyone put in $5.00 with the proceeds to be divided between first, second and the nearest to the pins. The weather certainly did not improve as the day went on but despite this the players soldiered on and considering the conditions there were some pretty good scores, but the best of these with 35 stableford points was Wayne Crowley, in second was Alan ( Happy) Hapgood with 32 points. Mark Peters was nearest to the pin on 1/10, but the best nearest the shot went to Gary (Wheelbarrow) Lobenwein with his beauty on 5/14 which I felt on a good day could have been an Ace. No draws in the clubhouse this week but once people had dried off most stayed for a quick one and a bit of a yarn. I will let you know when McMahons day is rescheduled but next week is the monthly medal sponsored by Mungalli Dairy Products and Millaa Millaa Hotel. JUST NEWS: Not a lot going on this week because of the rain however we managed to get the greens and fairways mowed for the Atherton Juniors who played on Saturday morning, we opened the clubhouse for them which was appreciated by both the players and their parents. 22.01.2022 For today's Stroke event we are very grateful to our wonderful sponsors WGC Lawyers, this their second weekend of sponsorship. So if in need of legal advice they are the ones to call. However the weather gods were definitely against us for this day, it was cold, wet and pretty miserable, but to their credit 15 hardy souls turned up to play. Now you notice I said turned up to play, 2 pulled the pin before signing in, they will remain nameless but the 4 who started then quit. ...Well, I thought a little cold, miserable wet wouldn't worry true Mountain Men but Don, Bruce, Graham and Trevor showed me how wrong I could be. We blame you Trevor, bringing this weather back with you, however it's great to have you back mate. For those of us that played the 18 holes the winner with 81 Gross giving him a 69 net was Kelvin Groves, it appears that he and David Welch just carried on their good form from last week as David was the runner up with 83 off the stick giving a 73 net. Mark Twomey came it third also with 83 off the stick giving him a 76 net, considering the day they were very good scores. The ladies event today was won by Alicia English who came in with 87 Gross giving her 73 net, in second was new club member Leila Cashmore, welcome to the club Liela, I guarantee the weather will always be better then it was today. Only one nearest to the pin winner today and that was young Curtis who I am told has a busy golfing schedule ahead over the next few weeks and we wish him all the best. Next Sunday the 6th is the MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL " Father's Day" 2 Ball Ambrose, 9.00 for 9.30, see ya there. JUST NEWS: The pad for the new tanks is done, all we need now is the pump and for it all to be connected. Les and Grant were out working through the bad weather on Saturday to ensure the course was in top shape for today's play, well done guys. Ross has worked how the new lights can be fitted without having to fill the holes in the ceiling so that's all go. Remember these when COVID19 rules start to annoy you. Richmond (London) Golf Club Temporary Rules 1940. 1. Players are asked to pick up Bomb and Shrapnel splinters so they don't damage the mower. 2. During Competition, players may take shelter from bombs or gunfire without a penalty for ceasing play. 3. The position of delayed action bombs are marked by a red flag at a reasonable, but not guaranteed, safe distance. See this space for a couple more of these rules next week.

21.01.2022 Due to a few changes to the program, the September Monthly Medal sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL was a week late, many thanks again to our sponsors for their important continued support of this monthly contest. However in hindsight, it is a pity, as the weather today left a bit to be desired, but this did not deter twenty players all keen to pick up the points on offer. Despite the inclement weather, there were still some pretty good scores but best ...of all was a Net 68 by Warwick Howarth who is warming up for the Open next weekend. In second and taking the five points with a Net 71 was Mark Twomey and of course, the day would not be complete without a countback, this one was between Grant Miller and David Gibson both only one stroke behind second with a Net 72. The countback only went back one place as Grant won at the first hurdle, David has been away from golf for a while so it was a good effort and welcome back Gibbo. Alicia English and Tracey Dickinson were the two ladies who braved the weather today with the honours this week going to Alicia with a net 75, Tracey wasn't far behind but thanks for making the effort both of you. All in all Warwick Howarth had a good day, not only did he win overall he was also nearest the pin on 1/10 and second shot nearest on 9/18, well played. The other N.T.P on 5/14 was won by Ash Healy nice shot to mate. New member Alan Thompson while not on the winner's list played well, a couple didn't finish and Graham Murray lost a shout on whose long putt would be nearest the hole, but true to his Scottish blood didn't forget his loss and made the winner a cup of tea back in the clubhouse. There were 3 daily draws this week with Alan Thompson taking two of them, the other went to the club with a ticket purchased for it by Bruce Hunter, thanks Bruce. The members draw was no. 47 (if I remember) anyway it was Paul Foster and he was away bad luck. Next weekend is the Millaa Millaa Open with Saturdays 4 ball Medley Ambrose being sponsored by Ravenshoe Hardware, Sunday's event due to the withdrawal of our usual sponsor is being sponsored by the Club its self, for details of the event look on our web site and call the numbers supplied. JUST NEWS: The new lights are in and make such a difference to the decor, thanks to Ross and Trevor for a job well done. The last two temporary rules for War Time London. No. 6 A ball lying in a bomb crater may be lifted and dropped not nearer the hole preserving the line to the hole, without penalty. No. 7 A player whose stroke is affected by a simultaneous explosion of a bomb may play another ball from the same place but with a penalty of one stroke.

20.01.2022 The weather Gods made the first leg of the Club Championships interesting to say the least, however over 30 players turned up for today’s event which was sponsored by our good friends at Malanda Pharmacy. I am informed that Tim has been crook, we wish him well and when you are in there you can do the same. The weather Gods made the first leg of the Club Championships interesting, to say the least, however over 30 players turned up for today’s event which was sponsored by our ...good friends at Malanda Guardian Pharmacy. I am informed that Tim has been crook, we wish him well and when you are in there you can do the same.irst three overall irrespective of their grade. "A" Grade winner was Ashley Healy with a comfortable net 69, he was closely followed by Warwick Howarth with 70 and in third with a 73 was the flying Scotsman Graham Murray. "B" Grade was won by Dylan Williams who carded a very nice 68 and is striking the ball very nicely, two strokes back was Geoff Errey and one back from him was Kelvin Groves, as this grade is by far the most competitive this was a good effort, well done guys. "C" Grade winner with a very impressive net 66 was new club member Garry Lobenwein, he was followed by Dale Stagg with Garry Sinclair taking out third for the day. To save you working out who took home the men’s prizes I will list them, Garry Lobenwein was the winner by two strokes on 66, with Dylan Williams second and Ash Healy coming in third, so one from each grade took out the three positions. Because of the lack of ladies, three places were awarded, first with a net 79 was Alicia English and only one stroke behind her was Tracey Dickinson with Marg Azar taking home third. Alicia also pipped the men again for nearest the pin on 1/10, David Welch was the nearest on 5/14 and I am reliably informed got his birdie. The second shot winner on 3/12 was Justin Cifuentes and I am told also got his birdie. The winning three for the weekly draw were Trevor Warrener, Kelvin Groves with the third one going to Tracey Dickinson and Ross Ellen, I am not sure Ross got his five dollars. Special thanks again to Trevor and his team for the great condition of the course. Next week is the second round of the club championships which is sponsored by 4AM/4KZ. Early start again next week everyone so 8 for 8.30 see ya there. The birthday boys, Happy & David, Treacy, Alicia & Marg, Dylan and his Dad Guy

20.01.2022 There was a bit of a mix up regarding the event today, not the sponsors who was our good friends at MALANDA BAKERY, thanks Ash, Deb and crew. No, the mix up the event its self, it was down for a 4BBB but it seemed a bit silly to have two of these following each other so with our sponsors blessing it was changed to a Flag Event as there is only one of these on the calendar this year. Anyway cool sunny weather greeted the players although I have to say numbers were down mainly... on account of the Survivor golf day in Atherton. Not to worry those that came enjoyed a wonderful days golf, no more so then Gary (Wheelbarrow) Lobenwein who finished best on the day with a net 71 (no one netted under par), all but for a couple of holes that was a pretty good round Gary. A couple of strokes away was The Silver Fox Don McHardie and behind him was Bob Collyer with Greg Taylor picking up the Bradmans. Don also took the nearest to the pin on 1/10 off Ross Ellen who was not to be denied with a great shot on 5/14, hate to say it hitting fairways was not something Ross did a lot of today. Geoff Errey nearly got his first eagle on 8/17 but at least it was good enough for the second shot nearest on that hole. Two weekly draws this week and would you believe it, Bob Collyer won again, Trevor Warrener, who is back briefly from his travels, was the other winner. Carol Howards number 29 came out in the members draw but sadly she wasn't there to collect the $40. Next week is the EACHAM FUEL day this is a stableford event, be early see ya there. See more

20.01.2022 Whether you are playing or thinking about playing the 2020 Central Tyre Service Classic Weekend, the MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL (who are our Club Monthly Medal sponsors) has two things happening; they have 3 rooms left if you are wanting to stay on the weekend rather than travelling and they have a new menu coming out this week. (and if you are early enough you can get your tickets in the Millaa Millaa Lions Club Saturday Raffle that they run as well ) Give them a call on 4097 2212

19.01.2022 Many thanks to Malanda Hotel Motel for their sponsorship of today's Stableford competition, it was a beautiful day and thirty players took advantage of the weather. With the shotgun start, everyone was back in the clubhouse by two which meant the heat was avoided. A lot of the players are sporting our new shirts and the long sleeved ones are quite popular, although I have found mine is a lot cooler now it has been washed. With that good turnout, it was a foregone conclusion ...the burglars would be on the prowl and Grant Miller was certainly the best of them today, back in the clubhouse with a net 83 which gave him 46 points, I saw the handicapper Greg Taylor rubbing his hands together so lookout. Second place also with his best ever score was Trevor Warrener who came in with 42 points, all your work on the course is obviously helping with your game as well mate. The ladies winner today was Barb Clifford with 30 points and just behind on 28 points was Marg Azar, the other winner from the ladies was our new member Leila Cashmore for her shot on 1/10. The NTP on 1/10 and winning him a six pack from Malanda Hotel was Ash Healy and taking the same prize on 5/14 was Justin Cifuentes, today anyone who was on the 205 metre (par 3) sixteenth green in one, won a ball. Two players were successful and they were Mark Twomey and Warwick Howarth, a few told me they were on and then off, sorry no prize for passing by. Back in the clubhouse, there were enough in the weekly draw for 3 winners and Graham Suffield who did all the leg work with the sponsor produced another six pack for a fourth draw, the $10 draws went to Grant Miller, Geoff Errey and Graham Suffield with Trevor Warrener winning the six pack. The members draw was number 54 which belonged to Graham Suffield, only $20 but better then a poke in the eye with a pointy stick. Next weekend is the 2020 Central Tyre Service Classic Weekend of GOLF with a 4 Ball Ambrose on Saturday followed by an Individual Stroke event on Sunday. JUST IN NEWS: We still have some equipment for sale, the old club buggy, a 5 foot slasher and the old greens mower are a few of them, Trevor and his team are doing a great job and it shows that's for sure. Photo 1 - 2020 Central Tyre Service Classic Weekend of GOLF details Photo 2 - Grant Miller Photo 3 - Trevor Warrener Photo 4 - Barb Clifford Photo 5 - Ash Healy winning our over Mark Twomey Photo 6 - Warwick Howarth

19.01.2022 Well Sunday the 21st was the second day of the Club Championships , the weather wasn't that bad but sadly the numbers were down a little from last weeks great turn out. However, I know those that played in the 4AM/4KZ sponsored Trophy Day, enjoyed them selves, thanks again to our wonderful sponsors. This years A Grade Mens Champion with a very creditable gross over the two days of 151 strokes was Justin Cifuentes who was also the overall Club Champion. Runner-up in A Grade ...was Warrick Howwarth on 155 strokes and with this score he also was the senior Champion for 2020. The B Grade Mens Champion with a gross score of 169 strokes was Kelvin Groves only one stroke behind him on 170 was the Old Master Bruce Hunter well done guys, good consistent golf. The C Grade Mens Champion was Gary Lobenwein who was debating whether to brave the weather or not and then came home with gross score of 190 strokes over the two days, the runner up in this grade with 206 strokes was Gary Sinclair. The best nett score with a 69 was Justin Cifuentes with Bruce Hunter second and Kelvin Groves in third. The best 18 hole net over the two days was Gary Lobenwein, his 65 on day one was not beaten today. There was a nice tussle for braging rights in the ladies between Alicia English and Tracey Dickinson, however todays winner was Alicia, who, like two weeks ago amazed your scribe with her second shot on number 12. Today’s nearest to the pins on 1/10 was my playing partner Guy Williams, Justin Cifuentes added to his impressive day with his winning tee shot on 5/14. The second shot for men on 8/17 was Warrick Howarth and the ladies winner was Tracey Dickinson, Tracey's winning shot on this hole taught me the real difference in how the men and women play golf. Although there was some great golf shots over the two days of the Championships the contest for the best of these was between David Welch for his final shot of the day on number 18, and Trevor Warrener first shot of the day on number 1. I have given title to Trevor who may decide to get something done about the block work at the front of No.1 tee box. Winners of todays draws were Greg Taylor, Kelvin Groves, Graham Suffield and one other that I didn't record, there was no winner of the members draw this week but as Geoff cleaned us out last week it was no big deal. Next week is a stableford event Sponsored by Williams, Graham and Carmen, also committee members are reminded there is a meeting next week. The captains would like to thank Ross Heidke who came by to do the board, thanks mate, a great help. SEE YA ALL NEXT WEEK. See more

19.01.2022 Today's Bisque Bogey event was sponsored by Gadgarra Sawmill so for all your milling and timber needs give Happy a shout. Now, for the uneducated, a Bisque Bogey competition is a Bogey one but you get to choose when you use your strokes. Happy explained the system to the twenty four keen golfers and comments ranged from, not a problem, to a two week TAFE course would help. Anyway it was a beautiful day and the format wasn't really a problem and the players responded accordin...gly with a number of players finishing with more then one (1) plus (+) and would you believe it, 2 finished with four +'s which of course meant a countback, which only went one step (thank heavens) and the winner was Bruce Hunter from Richard (Sol) Sullivan. As far as I could decipher both finished with 35 Stableford points which wasn't the best for the day which means they played the game very well. In third finishing with 3 +'s was Lenny Hankinson who interestingly had 36 Stableford points for the day, the Bradmans today went to newcomer Andrew Thompson who will only improve. Shaun Darby and Kelvin Groves both had a good day, but Kelvin couldn't turn his 35 points into more then +1. The nearest to the pins went to Keith Dixon on 1/10, The Silver Fox Don McHardie was easily the nearest on 5/14, and the second shot winner on 8/17 went to Kelvin Groves for his (he told me) 250 metre, around 3 trees shot that should have earned him an eagle badge. I am also told by a reliable source that Sol Sullivan, Graham Murray and Mark Twomey each had great second shots to the green on the 13th, now you would think one of them would have sunk the birdie, better luck next time guys. Next week we are off to Mt Garnet for the second round of the Tableland Challenge, as of today we have twelve teams going and could well have another by the cut off day, we know Garnet will turn on a great day so let's do Millaa Millaa proud. Just News: The course is in great shape and no mowing was needed this week so Les Taylor and his sidekick spent Thursday catching up on some much needed maintenance on the machinery, hopefully we will get the carts 'no go' areas, painted around the greens soon. Even though we missed on the Covid grant round we are sweating on the next as now we have ideas on what we want to do. The new water supply should be hooked up in the near future which will be a big saving $ wise for us and water wise for Millaa Millaa.

18.01.2022 Well, Santa must have bought a bunch of golf presents as the first Monthly Medal for 2021, which is sponsored by the wonderful people at Mungalli Creek Dairy and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL, had a record number turn out. Yes, today 34 players came to give their new goodies a whirl, the day looked ominous with dark clouds looming on all sides, we decided an early start would be sensible and to be honest, at 8.30 am we were wondering if there would be enough players to hold the monthl...y medal however by 9.15 am everyone was out and the course was full. We are still looking to boost our number of ladies playing, but today it was good to see visitors Rob Welch Dave's dad, Dean Taylor Les's Son and Shane Dodds, also new member Karhl Pickering played in his first monthly medal. Despite the weather, there were some pretty good scores but the best was Kelvin Groves with a very handy Nett 66; a good start to the season Kelvin. Only a stroke behind him was Wayne Crowley and a stroke further back was Michael Reynolds who hasn't had a hit for a while. For the nearest to the pins this week we had the normal 1/10 which was won by Geoff Errey and 5/14 was won by Warwick Howarth which he told me was the only decent shot he hit today, we also had 7/16 second shot for the ladies and 16 for the men sadly no one picked up the goodies here. With 34 players we had enough for three weekly draws of $10 and these were won by Kelvin Groves, Andrew Thompson and Richard Sullivan, the members draw number was Carol Howards and sadly she wasn't there so it jackpots to $80 for next week. Now next week is the official start of the season, it the Elders 3 Ball Medley Ambrose Golf Day competition - pick your own teams, the day is sponsored by Elders Real Estate & Insurance Tablelands. Just News: The rain is making course maintenance a little difficult but Trevor Warrener's troupe are handling things in a very professional way and today's deluge was a testament to that. The facilities have been well used over the holidays and receipts from visitors are boosting the coffers. Pictures: The winner Kelvin Groves, and Dave Welch with an Eagle on No. 11

17.01.2022 It was the Heidke Family Trophy Day, the Club thanks the Heidke Family for their sponsorship of this event, it was a beautiful day and twenty four players took advantage of this for a round of golf. Because it was a flag competition this meant all players were off number one, however as everyone was early (even Lenny) the last was off before 9.30 am and back in the clubhouse by 1.45 pm; well done. The winner on the day was Gary Lobenwein who finished with a Net 64 which mean...t he carried the flag for 5 strokes, these took him to where his drive went on number 2. Second with a 67 was Beorn Peacey, last years winner, and a stroke further back was Keith Dixon who conceded the second place without them playing for it. This weeks Nearest to the Pins went to Geoff Errey for 1/10, young visitor Curtis Househam had by far the best on 5/14 and the cream came to the surface with Alan (Happy) Hapgood's second shot on 3/12. At the 19th hole enough tickets in the weekly draw gave us two winners and they were Ash Healy and Keith Dixon however the members draw was number 46, so Mark Peters missed out on the $60 which will jackpot for next week. As you all probably know next Sunday is the first for 2021 and the Monthly Medal sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL, 9.00 am for 9.30 am see you there. Just News: The recent rain has given Trevor some concern with mould in a couple of greens but it also has the course looking great, visitor numbers are excellent and almost daily family groups are taking advantage of the Clubs facilities. We now can check in and out using the QR code system, a few teething problems but it will get sorted. We all understand the need for these types of things in these Covid times but it certainly pushes the friendship now and then.

16.01.2022 THE MILLAA MILLAA OPEN. Oh what a difference a day makes, today the weather Gods certainly smiled on us it was clear blue skies with a nice breeze, and it was not for nothing with 56 people on the course. 14.01.2022 Should I look at Lawn Bowls or get a new driver?

13.01.2022 Saturday was the first day of CENTRAL TYRE SERVICE'S weekend of golf, it started with a 4Ball Medley Ambrose with teams starting at about 8.30 am and all 56 players were away by 11.15 am. The little bit of rain Friday night did nothing to dampen everyone's enthusiasm to have a good day and the course was in top condition and this was reflected in the scores that the teams turned in. The best of these with a gross of 51 strokes was WYW consisting of Marg Azar, Shaun Darby, Le...Continue reading

12.01.2022 Hi ho. Hi ho it's off to golf we go, this time to visit the great people of Mt Garnet for the second round of the Tableland Challenge. Again I was proud of our club, all decked out in their club shirts and determined to make the day a success for the home club as well as our own. Congratulations to all those that worked so hard to ensure that the day was a success, the people in the kitchen, Alan, Lyn and Ron to name just a few worked hard to make us welcome. Millaa fielded ...fourteen teams and for a club of our size that is an excellent effort, you will recall after the first round we were four and a half strokes behind (or ahead if you want to be pedantic) Ravenshoe, well today our first five teams finished with 327 1/2 strokes and while we finished 1/4 of a stroke behind Mt Garnet on the day, we were good enough to finish 1/4 of a stroke ahead of Ravenshoe after the two days of the Challenge were tallied up. Those five teams were: Paul Foster and Shaun Darby were our top team but only on a count back with the ever reliable team of David Welch and Kelvin Groves, both teams finishing with 65 1/4 strokes. Third and fourth was also a tie between the Warrick Howarth and Grant Miller team and the team of Gary Lobenwein and Wayne Norris with both finishing with 65 1/2 strokes. In fifth place with 66 1/4 strokes was the team of Ross Heidke and Graham Murray, in fact of the fourteen teams we had there not one had over 71 1/2 strokes and our club team average was 68 1/4 which is a great club effort. Congratulations to those in the top five and to everyone for a beaut days golf and for supporting a fellow club. Next week is Williams Graham & Carman sponsored stroke competition this is always a good day and thank you to W G & C for their support. So be there at 9 for a 9.30 start. See ya there. Just News: We are still waiting to get the quotes to install the pump and tanks for our new bore, not far away I hope. The gully on 3/12 has had a shave and haircut, but so that it doesn't get away again we need some one to take it on as their responsibility, all the equipment is there and now it is clean again a couple of hours a fortnight should keep it that way. See more

11.01.2022 The Yungaburra Butchery Trophy Day is always a keenly contested outing, let's face it, all of us want to win meat from The Yungaburra Butchery especially at this time of the year. Thank you Glen. I thought I was going to miss this event but COVID put paid to our planned Sydney trip, such a pity as I was so looking forward to discussing the State of Origin with my son's mates. On the same subject, I hear there is going to be a Royal Commission as the NSW Government thinks that... the Russians were involved in rigging the result!! Anyway, again I digress, back to Sunday's golf. It was a stroke event and 24 turned out, only one lady and as per the Club rules, this meant that Alicia English had to play against the men and is given two strokes. Now before you start feeling sorry for this solitary lady remember back a few months she drove off on 6 and was six inches from acing a par four and Alicia didn't disappoint with a very well played net 67 equal with three of the men, however with her extra two strokes this gave her a winning 65. Second in the three way countback was Geoff Errey who had a 37 off the stick for the second nine, second of the men and in third was The Silver Fox Don McHardie and behind him was Shaun Darby. Geoff Errey was also Nearest the Pin on 1/10 and Keith (Dicko) Dixon was the nearest on 5/14. Back in the club house there were enough takers for us to have three winners in the weekly raffle, Trevor Warrener was the first winner, Keith Dixon was the second and Graham Suffield took the third ten dollar note, number 63 was drawn out in the members draw for $50, the number belongs to Lyn Kelly and as she wasn't there today it jackpots to $60 for next weeks game which is The Heidke Family Trophy Day, a flag event. To all club members and anyone who follows us with this column I wish you a Merry Christmas with a safe and prosperous New Year.N

10.01.2022 Sunday the 5th July saw two dozen players turn up on a very chilly day for the July monthly medal which is sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL, we thank both for their sponsorship and again I remind everyone that patronage of these businesses is greatly appreciated. Also, I congratulate Mungalli on the opening of their new plant and wish them every success in this venture. I am continually cursed by 'count backs' and today was no exception with Graham Mu...rray having his net score adjusted by two strokes because of a previous win, this left Mark Peters a clear winner with a net score of 67, well played. However this left Graham Murray, Warwick Howarth and David Welch all on 69, so the countback began, David was the first to s drop out, then there was two. Two stages later it was Graham who managed to take second with Warrick finishing third. Last week it was Mark's shot on 5/14 that was the highlight of the day, well today it was Graham Murray's shot on 1/10, no, not a hole in one but close enough for him to scoop the Golden Eagle Nest pool of $300, then putting aside hundreds of years of Scottish tradition he shouted the bar from his win, well done mate. The other nearest the pins were Kelvin Groves on 5/14 and Alicia English on 8/17 with her second shot, the longest putt to go in on 9/18 was won by Dale Stagg who I am told wasn't looking forward to the journey home with Graham telling him of his $300 shot over and over, he could remind him that who he took the longest putt off. The members draw went off again this week to Kelvin Groves, only $30 but better then a poke in the eye with a pointy stick, the first daily draw was won by Bob Collyer and the second was a syndicate of Kelvin, Ash and Bob who threw in change to get the two draws, so not wanting to split ten dollars three ways they put it into the three putt jar. Also, welcome back to Keith Dixon after a 4 months absence due to health reasons. JUST NEWS: In is good to hear that Carol is well on the road to recovery after the accident a few weeks, Chrissie is still a bit sore so we hope she will soon be back to full fitness and looking forward to getting back on the course. We applied for a special $2000 COVID19 club grant and received it a few days ago, so Trevors new duster/come fertilizer spreader is paid for which will save a lot in volunteer time. Also last year the committee decided we should be less reliant on town water and applied for a grant to put down our own bore and install 50,000 Lt. extra tank capacity, this was successful and a bit of fine weather should see the bore go down, we just hope the Silver Fox's divining skills are up to scratch. Firstly this will save the club $1500 - $2000 in water charges but more importantly, we will not be using precious town water. Next week is the Mungalli Creek Dairy Products Trophy Day this is a stableford event, so it's nine for nine thirty see ya there.

10.01.2022 Sunday the 26th was the Club Foursomes Championships sponsored by Golfworld.com.au so remember for anything golf that's the place to go. The day itself was magnificent, cool to cold a bit of a breeze all in all a perfect day to play golf. Despite this not being the most popular format that we play, twenty eight players were there to take advantage of the great weather and try to win one of the numbers of very generous vouchers from Golf World Cairns. ...Continue reading

09.01.2022 A huge weekend of golf starting on Saturday with the Ravenshoe Hardware 4 Ball Medley Ambrose, a big thank you to Ravenshoe Hardware for stepping up at short notice and sponsoring today's event. Considering the rather dicky weather we have had all week it was fantastic to have 50 people turn up to play, big thanks to Marg and Carol for the lunch, Ross and Don for the timesheets and Trevor and crew for getting the course into great shape. The results of today's competition are..., 1st place went to team Cifuentes consisting of John, Trish and Justin Cifuentes and Caril Jones they finished with an impressive net 54 strokes. In second place was Survivor Golf a team consisting of Luke Peters, Ross McConnell, Dave Cameron and Rich Heaton this teams 55 7/8 was impressive as their handicap was less then 2. In third place with 56 net was O'sole O'meo with Richard (Sol) Sullivan, Tim Holt, Ray Marsh and Shane Bradley. Last team in line for honours was The Floggers with a net of 57 1/2, they were Lenny Hankinson, Shaun Darby, Jon Zappo Shearer and Peter Richies. Team prizes also went to the two standard Nearest The Pins 1/10 went to The Floggers and 5/14 was won by Last but not Least with Graham Murray, Greg Taylor, Gary Sinclair and Bob Collyer. The other two went to Tim Holt for his second shot nearest the pin on 3/12 and Justin Cifuentes for his longest drive on 9/18. All in all it was a good fun day with fine weather predicted for the single stroke event on Sunday.

09.01.2022 Today's stableford competition was sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy and we thank them again for their continuing support, especially as they may be going to give us a hand with the new shirts. Even though the weather left a bit to be desired today, we still had over twenty players competing for converted Mungalli Dairy vouchers. Despite the inclement weather there were still some pretty good scores. In the men, the best of these was Wayne Crowley with a handy 38 points, well... done Crowls a good effort considering the day. Second place on 35 or 6 (not sure which) was Bruce Hunter, it would not be a golf day without a countback, but today's was easy being a stableford, brothers Grant Miller and Warwick Howarth both finished with 32 points, but Grant couldn't maintain the pace he set in the first nine and Warrick managed to pip him in the home straight. The ladies struggled with the conditions today but Tracey Dickinson with thirty points took the honours from Alicia English. The captains today were told from now on, a Nearest the Pin on the third shot for the ladies, was not on, as putting to win this was not the idea of this competition, which by the way, was won by Alicia English. (Thank heavens she didn't sink the putt. ) Nearest the Pins for the Men were won by visitor Marty Ots on 5/14, Bob Collyer won both 1/10 and second shot on 6/15 a good thing some part of his game was working. Our two visitors today, Peter Wyatt and Marty Ots from Half Moon Bay Club enjoyed the day and were very complimentary regarding the course and greens. You are welcome anytime guys. Next week is the BCF - Boating, Camping, Fishing Innisfail Three Ball Medley Ambrose. It's a visitors day so get your team there at nine for nine thirty, see ya. Just News: A bit of disappointing news at the last meeting was that Bendigo Bank who withdrew their competition sponsorship a while back were now not continuing their tee advertising, we have asked them to reconsider, but if you are in the bank you might mention that you are disappointed.

08.01.2022 Today was the August Monthly Medal sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL; a big thanks to these two companies for their sponsorship of this monthly event. Two visitors this week were Peter Johnston from Mareeba and from south Robert Welch who is David's father, also it was great to see Rick Gooderham again after a bit of an absence. There was a good roll up for today's competition, 25 I think, and again the Golf Gods were very kind with the weather, a bea...Continue reading

08.01.2022 f our season which is sponsored by good friends at Elders Insurance and Real Estate, we bought the starting time forward as the weather forecast for after lunch didn't look good. By 9 o'clock 55 players from all parts of the far north were on the course, the rain was around but not bad and I was feeling good about us getting through the day. But while we, at The Royal Millaa Millaa Golf Club can sort most things, the weather remains out of our control, about 10 o'clock it st...arted and by the time we had completed another hole the next was unplayable. It was soon obvious that play would not restart so our wonderful sponsors bought lunch forward, the match committee had a quick meeting and the Elders Insurance and Real Estate day will go ahead in the middle of February. Players were offered their playing fee back and while they were encouraged to take up the committee's offer very few did, thank you guys the club appreciates this. I have been the captain for three years and this is the first time we have not completed a days play, such a pity to spoil our record. Next week is the Paul Foster Trophy Day 9 for 9.30 see ya there. Just News: A number of new trees have been planted, some as replacement and some extra, the tree barrier between the start of 7 and the end of 6 would make a certain US President envious, good job Geoff. A few of the older trees have fallen during this wet and we will have to get a mulcher in to sort things out. The 9/18th hole under water Mark had his goggles on but forgot his flippers!! The great "Elders" crew preparing an early lunch

07.01.2022 Sunday the 11th dawned bright and clear, a perfect day for golf, it was a stroke event sponsored by the author of 'Don’t Talk to the Dunnyman'.For a copy of the book call the club captain. Every one was keen to pick up their share of the spoils on offer and the competition was fierce amongst the 28 players, however the toughest competition today was to see who could have the most putts on the 7/16 green which was proving pretty tricky, Sol Sullivan and Greg Taylor were keen t...o win but it was Greg with 8 putts, which is a pity as he was having a good game til then. Meanwhile back to the main event, there were to be no countbacks today with, if necessary, first to be decided by a chip and putt competition on 9/18. Justin Cifuentes and Dave Morrison both finished with a 69 net but sportingly Dave decided not to contest the chip and putt which gave the win to a deserving Justin Cifuentes with Dave Morrison coming in second. The position with a clear winner was third place which was taken out by Ross Ellen with a net 70, fourth was also between two players, Kelvin Groves and Ash Healy who shared the $30 between them for their 71 net. Nobody managed to get onto 7/16 with their drive so no prizes given out there but Brian Hughes was a clear nearest the pin winner on 1/10 as was Dave Morrison on 5/14. Back in the club house enough tickets were taken to have 4 weekly draws, just in case his number came up again Bob asked Kelvin to do the draws, the Silver Fox Don McHardie pocketed one, Greg Errey is back in form taking one and Grant Millar came up trumps winning two. The members draw went off with number 12 coming out again giving Kelvin Groves $10 to pocket. Malanda Seafood is the sponsor of the Eclectic Stableford to be played next week, see you all there. Just News: On Saturday we had a birthday golf day at the club, Paul Foster did a great job making sure everyone had a wonderful day, financially the club did very well and it is a reminder to us all that we should use our facilities for this type of event as often as we can. We have a price for the lockable outside cupboard it is fairly reasonable and after a ring around we will more then likely go ahead, the new bore water supply is now being used and Trevor has it working well. Next week is a committee meeting for those of you that are involved. See more

07.01.2022 Today was the HAMPER DAY which, we, as a Club are the sponsors, it was a 3Ball Ambrose competition where Mount Garnet Golf Club and Ravenshoe Millstream Country Club were our guests for the day. As many of the teams as possible were made up from a member of each club, this makes it difficult for those getting the teams onto the course but thanks to help from Don and Les everyone was away pretty much on time. From the twelve teams competing there wasn't a gross score over 65 ...which meant everyone performed pretty well, however with a 57 2/3 strokes was the team of Warwick Howarth from Millaa Millaa Golf Club, Geoff Bull from Mt Garnet and Ray Burring from Ravenshoe, it was great to have a player from each club in the winning team, well done. I can't say the same for the second placed team on 58 1/2 as Geoff Errey, Don McHardie and Mal Armstrong are all from Millaa Millaa. The same goes for the third placed team which was Wayne Norris, Greg Taylor and Richard (Sol) Sullivan and they finished with 58 5/6 strokes. The Nearest to the Pins were won by the team of Shaun Darby, David Cassels and Eddie Wulf for 1/10, Warwick Howarth, Geoff Bull and Ray Burring were nearest on 5/14. The longest holed put on 9/18 was won by the team of Sol Sullivan, Greg Taylor and Wayne Norris with a great 25 footer down the slope. Next week is the first monthly medal for next year it is sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy Products and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL, it is also the play off for the Monthly Medal winner from this year also the "3 Putt" BBQ is on after golf, lots of prawns to be eaten!! So see you all next week. Just News: Looks like we are going to buy a mower specifically for doing the roughs, this will save a lot of wear and tear on the fairways mower which needs the roller bearings replaced. I think I am correct in saying that we may have a couple of guys willing to look after the 3/12 gully, well done.

07.01.2022 Well I know you are all waiting with baited breath for the results of the first round of The Tableland Challenge, as I have said, because of Covid, the Challenge dates this year were adjusted so the clubs could organize themselves. That is why the first round was in Ravenshoe not Mt Garnet. I am so proud of being a member of Millaa Millaa at these challenge meetings, for the better part we are in club shirts, hassle free and turn up in great numbers, today we had 14 teams or ...28 players, for a club of our size that is a damn fine effort as well as being a good revenue earner for the home club. The home club always has home ground advantage but Millaa was hoping to change the norm and beat Ravenshoe at home, but, alas it was not to be, with the home teams top five pairings finishing with 337 strokes and Millaa's top five, four and a half strokes further back with Mt Garnet about fifteen strokes behind us. Oh! well back to the drawing board on that idea. However our teams did very well with nine of them having net scores under par, the winning team from Millaa Millaa was Kelvin Groves and David Welch with a gross score of 73 which gave them a net of 66.25, these two guys can always be relied on to do well. In second for Millaa Millaa was Mark Twomey and Bob Collyer with a gross of 72 which gave them a 67 net, they have never played together as a team before but complimented each others game well. A big thanks to all those organizers at Ravenshoe for putting on a most enjoyable day, although at first they thought that the Millaa Millaa contingent had bought their home weather with them, but no, it turned into a great day for the three clubs and the game of golf. Next week is our monthly medal for August, sponsored by the Mungalli Dairy products and Millaa Millaa Hotel and don't forget it is only three week to the second round of the Tableland Challenge at Mt Garnet so start getting your teams in. JUST NEWS: Well we now have our own water bore drilled and finished, they had to go deeper then we budgeted for but apparently it is a good supply (didn't get the flow rate) and as we are installing an extra 47,000 litre holding tank we will be in good shape. The down hole pump should be installed in the next couple of weeks which means all should be ready for when the rain leaves us. See more

07.01.2022 The day may have started a little ordinary but apart from a few showers it was a beautiful day to be alive and play golf in the ShedBoss Tablelands STABLEFORD TROPHY DAY, thank you Lenny and ShedBoss for your sponsorship. There was a good crowd, 29 I think, at the club today and as they signed in I had a feeling the competition would be fierce and I wasn't wrong with the winner, Gary Lobenwein, coming home well clear with 43 stableford points. Four points behind Gary with, I ...am told, his best game for a while was Bob Collyer and in third, a point further back was Shaun Darby. The Ladies winner with 35 points was the ever consistent Alicia English and behind her in second was Marg Azar, whose third shot to the 16th green bought the admiration of the three guys on the 17th tee. For someone who has never had a hole in one Bob Collyers winning NTP shot on 1/10 nearly gave him a heart attack, a few inches outside of the golden eagle, oh well back to the drawing board, the winner on 5/14 was Wayne Crowley and Ray Marsh was nearest with his second shot on 8/17. The Ladies winner with their second shot to 6/15 was Alicia English whose drive on the 15th gave her an almost impossible second which she carried off without a problem to par the hole. There was enough to have three winners in the weekly draw and they were Richard (Sol) Sullivan, Mark Twomey and Geoff (I never miss) Errey. If David Welch had stuck around he would have picked up the members draw, bad luck mate. Next week is the Xmas Hamper day with players coming from Millaa Millaa Golf Club, Ravenshoe Millstream Country Club and Mount Garnet Golf Club, it is a 3 Ball Medley ambrose with teams, where possible, consisting of a player from each club. So everyone get there before nine, this way we can get the teams organized and out on the course and have everyone back early, See Ya There. JUST NEWS: Not a lot at the committee meeting, our change of bank for the term deposits is complete and we are in good shape financially, we are told the bore will be up and running next week and the club house is now fully screened thanks to the work of Trevor Warrener and the generosity of Peninsula Windows and Doors.

05.01.2022 Well Sunday the 18th did not shine the way we expect it to on golf day, especially for the MALANDA SEAFOOD sponsored eclectic stableford day. Even yours truly has to admit it was pretty ordinary but it didn't discourage 19 seafood hungry club members from trying for one of the four vouchers from Malanda Seafood. Considering the weather there were some very handy scores handed in, however in an eclectic stableford competition it is not just about good scores, it is just as muc...h about which holes you score those points on. The sponsors instructions were that there were to be no countbacks, ties were to be decided with a draw which is not unusual for this format. But we need not have worried as three players finished with 22 points and one on 21 points. The first three on 22 were Alan Hapgood, Graham Suffield and Gary Lobenwein well played guys you all used the eclectic format very very well. The fourth Malanda Seafood voucher went to Trevor Warrener who finished on 21 points and when you consider his total point score was 29 how well did Trev play eclectic stableford. David Gibson was a little greedy in the nearest to the pins this week winning both 1/10 and 5/14, the second shot nearest on 3/12 was won by Alan Hapgood with what I was told (by Happy) was a brilliant shot. Back in the club house there was enough takers for us to have three draws, now because of his recent winning form Bob had someone pick his numbers and got Happy to do the draw, and you guessed it, first number out was his. The other two winners were David Welch and David Gibson, the members draw would have been won by Kev Stinson had he have been at the club today. Next weeks Anzac Day event is sponsored by McMahons Better Home Living, it is a stroke event and TEE OFF TIME IS 1 O'CLOCK see you there. JUST NEWS: One thing I don't mind admitting today was how lovely it was to get home, have a hot shower, get into dry clothes and have a cup of tea. The meeting went well with a number of new members admitted, the last Mr Steve Paterson came in during the meeting to inquire about membership, in true Arkwright fashion (remember open all hours) he left a little confused but a paid up member. The new 9 hole competition to be played during the week starts this week, Marg will email the details to everyone but if you are unsure give me a call, as I said last week it will add a bit of interest for those who have a hit during the week and Saturday. Trevor Warrener is taking a well earned break and will spend the next 4 or 5 months off with his van, have a great time mate, be safe 'n we'll see you when you get back. See more

05.01.2022 What a difference a day makes!!! Today, Tuesday at Royal Millaa Millaa, the sun was shining (well for most of the morning!!!) for the brave players who turned up for the Summer of golf. Our wonderful Providor Hugh was on hand to see the players in and look after their every need.

04.01.2022 A beautiful spring day greeted those who turned out for the Millaa Millaa Hotel sponsored "Fathers Day" 2Ball Ambrose Father/Son or Daughter Event. This day is a favourite with families (Not, I hope just for the goodies from The MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL) and today was no exception, with over 20 players in attendance. Now while not everyone was father/son or daughter it was played in the right spirit and everyone enjoyed themselves. The clear winner with an impressive 75 to give t...hem 64 1/4 Net was the team of Marg Azar and Alan Hapgood, well played especially that putt on 3/12 Marg. Of course, it wouldn't be a club day without a countback and this week for second place the father and son team of Warwick and Aaron Howarth came through with a 72 for a 66 1/4 over the other tied team of Justin Cifuentes and Paul Foster who had a 69 for their Net of 66 1/4 and of course third place. Nearest to the pins this week were won by Graham Murray on 1/10, Ray Marsh took the prize with his wonderful shot on 5/14, the second shot NTP on 3/12 was a bit elusive but finally, Warwick Howarth nailed it. The club draws this week were won by Graham Murray and Don McHardie who both stuck a $10 note in their kick, Lee Heidke's name was drawn out in the members draw but sadly he wasn't there today. Next week is the Monthly Medal sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy and Millaa Millaa Hotel, 9.00 for 9.30 see ya there. Just News: Club shirts, a subject of much discussion over the past six months, well a final meeting between Marg and our main sponsor for the shirts Mungalli Dairy Products have finally got things sorted, well done to all concerned these jobs are never easy. The blue lines restricting buggies around the greens are in place although the (accidentally) one left on 5/14 questions the painter's sobriety. Two more temporary rules from Richmond G.C. in 1940. No. 4. Shrapnel and/ or bomb splinters on the fairways or in bunkers within a clubs length of a ball may be moved without penalty, and no penalty shall be incurred if a ball is thereby caused to move by accident. No 5. A ball moved by enemy action may be replaced, or if a ball is lost or destroyed another may be dropped not nearer the hole without penalty. DON'T FORGET TO NOMINATE FOR THE OPEN WEEKEND 19th & 20th SEPTEMBER.

04.01.2022 A Date Claimer for 2021 for Members and Visitors! Hopefully, people find us at Millaa Millaa Golf Club and not Milla Milla when we host!

04.01.2022 'ROUND THREE OF 'THE TABLELAND CHALLENGE' A perfect day greeted the combatants from the 3 Clubs, all keen to do their best and take the shield home for their Club. We were struggling for sponsorship for this event until our local member Shane Knuth MP stepped up with a generous donation to help us out, many thanks to him and his staff.... Today Ravenshoe Millstream Country Club had eleven teams, Mount Garnet Golf Club had six and Millaa Millaa Golf Club had fifteen which gave us a total of thirty two teams, thank you to the Captains of all Clubs for their work in getting their teams organised. Because everyone involved did their part the day went off without a hitch, and we all could relax and enjoy ourselves. We went into this round only leading Ravenshoe by 1/4 of a point and all players knew they would have to produce their best, Warwick Howarth and Grant Miller from Millaa were keen to show their effort in the second round was no fluke and had the best score today with an impressive 60 3/4, Eddie and Yvonne Wulf from Mt Garnet were second overall with 61 3/4. A round up of the club winners were as follows, Millaa Millaa: 1st Grant Miller and Warrick Howarth 60 3/4, in second place, was Shaun Darby and Paul Foster with a net 62. Ravenshoe: Today's best was Prudence Wright and Caraline Soper with a 62 3/4, not far behind Tarnia Wright and Abby McEwan with 64 1/2. Mt Garnet: Not having a lot of teams today stirred Eddie and Yvonne Wulf into action and they came home with a 61 3/4, in second with a 63 was Rod O'Neil and Colleen Zangrande. However the result of the Tableland Challenge showed that Millaa Millaa is tough to toss at home and today our best five teams finished with 312 1/2, nearest to them was Ravenshoe with 326 3/4, with Mt Garnet third with 334. This means that the Challenge Shield is Millaa's for the next year with a three round total of 981 3/4 which gave us a reasonable win over Ravenshoe in second. Ravenshoe were strong in the Nearest to the Pins with Tania Wright and Abby McEwan taking 1/10 and second shot on 9/18, their team mates Josh Shorey and Josh Anderson winning 5/14. 03.01.2022 Sunday was the Club's 2020 Break up Day, mind you we don't actually stop playing it is only in name. It was the first Monthly Medal for the 2021 season and was also the playoff between all the 2020 Season Monthly Medal winners for the year. As always, we are grateful to our wonderful sponsors Mungalli Creek Dairy Products and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL for their continued support, it was a warm but perfect day for golf, Trevor had fussed over getting the course into top shape for t...Continue reading

03.01.2022 Sunday the 19th was one of those days that make you think 'I wouldn't be dead for quids'. It was sponsored by BCF Innisfail, many thanks to Shane and the team for their years of support, so don't forget for all your Boating, Camping and Fishing needs pay them a visit. Today was a, pick your own team, three ball medley ambrose and with everyone knowing that the BCF day is one not to miss we had over 40 players with 13 teams competing for the spoils....Continue reading

02.01.2022 Sunday the 13th of December was a day made for golf and twenty five players turned out knowing when the day is sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy Products the goodies are worth playing for, they even gave all of us a delicious ice cream to have when play was over. Les Taylor is doing a great job helping the Captain and everyone was on the course by nine thirty, which meant there was time for a chat and a drink before and after the presentations. It was quite exciting to watch ...the Stableford point scores come in, a 40 looked a winner, another 40 came in and I went, another countback, damn, then would you know it a third 40 came in. Stableford countbacks are not to bad and it didn't take long before we knew that Shaun Darby had pipped the other 2 to take the first prize. Wayne Norris's consistency saw him hang on to second place with Grant Miller coming in third. There were some good scores in the high thirties but those three on forty were the standouts, the nearest to the pins today were won by Warwick Howarth on 1/10, Graham Suffield was a clear winner on 5/14 and Ashley Healy dropped a beautiful approach onto 9/18 to win the second shot nearest on that green. The daily draw was large enough to have three winners with greedy Graham Suffield winning twice and Grant Miller getting the third, the members draw was number thirteen and sadly Darryl DeClfford missed out picking up the $40, oh well, up by another $10 next week. Yungaburra Butchery is the sponsors for next week's stroke event, the time is still 9.30 so don't be late. JUST NEWS: With the arrival of our EFTPOS machine we can now accommodate the many card users, welcome to 2021 Millaa Millaa Golf Club. We are still waiting to have the electrics done to put the new bore and tanks into use, we have had just enough rain to keep the course in top condition, the new (second hand ) mower for the roughs has had it's few minor problems sorted and a good service so Grant is up and away. Using the old greens mower on the surrounds is working well and with the greens being knifed and sanded last week they are in wonderful condition. I am away for two weeks so will take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and Happy Xmas and a prosperous New Year.

02.01.2022 What a difference a day makes, yesterday it was pretty ordinary but we managed to get mowed what we couldn't last week so the course was looking good. Despite there being Survivor Golf at Gordonvale and the Rodeo/Races at Mt Garnet there were still twenty players keen to pick up points in the May Monthly Medal, sponsored by Mungalli Creek Dairy Products and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL, what would we do without these wonderful sponsors. Because of the rain, it was still ' pick and pla...ce ' from tee to green. Interesting stat; the P.G.A. Gurus claim the match with clean and place reduces scores by between 1 and 2 every 18 holes, however today’s scores didn't show that, what they did give was a countback for first and second and one for third. Ash Healy will have to practice only the back nine holes as he was pipped again (2 from 13 he tells me), but he would have been hard pressed to beat a second nine 34 off the stick from Warwick Howarth, well done both of you with you both finishing with a nett 72. Third was between Gary Sinclair and Bob Collyer with Gary a clear winner on the second nine, he also won nearest to the pin on 5/14, with the days winner Warrick Howarth nearest on 1/10, David Welch had a great second shot to pick up the golf balls on 6/15. Only enough tickets for two weekly draws with 'The Club', courtesy of Bruce Hunter, picking up one and Geoff Errey winning the other, number 51 came out in the members draw but sadly Barb Clifford wasn't there today to pick up the $20.00 so it’s $30.00 next week which is the Malanda Meat Co day. This is a 4 BBB Medley Vrs. Par, with a draw for partners, see you there next week. Just News: Firstly has anyone seen an Aukubra with two eagles badges on it, if so let Bob know, I think he is more concerned about the badges. As you can imagine keeping the course in good shape is not easy in this weather but I think all concerned are doing a great job. Speaking of football, which I wasn't, a certain club member wasn't "Happy" about the first half scoreline of 22 nil against the Broncos, so much so that he hurled his stubby (empty of course) at the screen. This meant that he couldn't watch as The Broncos clawed their way back and win by 8 points.

01.01.2022 It was a warm one today for the Mungalli Creek Dairy and MILLAA MILLAA HOTEL sponsored Monthly Medal and 27 members turned out to contest for the prizes and the points. It was good to have four ladies here today, especially to have Carol Howard and Barb Clifford back having a hit again. The Men's competition was particularly hard fought with a bunch of impressive Net scores but the cream will always rise to the surface and today's cream of the crop with a gross four over par..., Net 65 was Paul Foster, from what I am told an almost flawless round of golf, well done. In second with his best ever score off the stick and finishing with a Gross of 66 was Grant Miller, well done mate there will be plenty more of those. There were three in a tie for third all with a Gross of 68; they were Kelvin Groves, Trevor Warrener and Les Taylor, so of course, a count back was required and they were so close we had to go back three places until we were able to give third to Kelvin Groves, love these count backs, especially when one player has a two stroke penalty (he had previously won a Monthly Medal). All the ladies played well but the best of these was Alicia English with a Net score of 73, if not for three holes and two especially, this would have been well in the sixties. Nearest to the Pins were shared this week but the shot of the day went to Shaun Darby with his on 1/10 which only missed winning him the $300 Eagles Nest prize by six inches, Trevor Warrener had the best on 5/14 and 8/17 Kelvin Groves had the best second shot, with Carol Howard winning the best third shot for the Ladies. There were 63 in the daily draw which meant three winners and they were Carol Howard, Grant Miller and David Welch with number 44 coming out in the members draw which meant Wayne Crowley missed out on $10 as it went off last week. Next week is Stableford competition sponsored by the Malanda Hotel Motel, and don't forget the following week is our major sponsor event, 2020 Central Tyre Service Classic Weekend, a 4 Ball Medley Ambrose on Saturday, followed by an Individual Stroke event on Sunday, so get your nominations in. JUST NEWS: I have not tallied up the Monthly Medal scores but should be able to announce the winner next week, the final security screen should go on in a week or so which will be comforting. The tanks are here however still no sign of the system being set up but Ross and Trevor at least have the sprinkler computer sorted. See you all next week.
